Carl W. Miller
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Carl W. Miller, 88, of Las Cruces, N.M., formerly of Orlando, Fla., and Lewistown, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Ga.

Born Oct. 5, 1911, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Daniel and Frances Miller.

Surviving are: children, Fran Miller, Orlando, Fla., and Carl Sam Miller, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Cora Gordon, Lewistown; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He worked in construction work for most of his life.

He was an avid fisherman.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Claudine L. Miller
REEDSVILLE - Claudine L. Miller, 87, of Outlook Pointe Commons, Reedsville, died at 5:35 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born May 28, 1912, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late James A. and S. Edna (Aurand) Goss. Her husband, Richard L. Miller, died July 5, 1966.

Surviving are: children, Richard L. Miller Jr., 4439 Back Maitland Road, McClure, James J. Miller, Rockport, Texas, Thomas I. Miller, Port Royal RR, and Mrs. Donald (Jayne) Priar, 25 Grand Parkway, Lewistown; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a 1930 graduate of Lewistown High School.

She and her husband owned and operated Miller's Greenhouse and Flower Shop until 1966; after that, she was employed at Juniata Foods as a sales secretary for 15 years.

She was a member of Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was in the Live Wire Sunday school class. She was a member of the church's parsonage committee and administrative board, and the church historian committee. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, 611 S. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. William J. Danis officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Cora E. Miller
LEWISTOWN - Cora E. Miller, 97, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Lewistown RR6, died at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the nursing home.

Born Sept. 17, 1902, in Granville Township, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Nancy Jane (Snyder) Rowe. Her husband, Grover C. Miller, died Dec. 8, 1989.

She is survived by sisters, Virgie Ament, 42 Apple House Road, Belleville, and Dolly Spearing, Eighth Street, Highland Park, Lewistown.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Oliver, John, George, Charles, Robert and Jesse Rowe; and three sisters, Sarah Anderson, Anna Rowe and Margaret Rowe.

She was employed in the processing department of the American Viscose, Division of F.M C., for 25 years, retiring in 1939, and was owner-operator of the Grandview Diner, Lewistown, and the Blue Goose Restaurant, Lewistown. She also raised broiler chickens for many years.

She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown, the Augsburg Sunday School Class, and a charter member of the auxiliary of West Granville Fire Company.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Friends may call from noon until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Gerald Miller Jr.
EDISON, N.J. - Gerald Miller Jr., 54, of Edison, N.J., died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, N.J.

Born and raised in Lewistown, he was the son of Alberta (Crownover) Miller of Lewistown and the late Gerald Miller. His wife, Margaret (Micklos) Miller, survives.

Also surviving are: sons, Gerald Miller III, Middlesex, N.J., and John Glenn Miller, Bound Brook, N.J.; step-children, Aaron Michael Gray, Somerville, N.J., Daniel Gray and Cynthia Henderson, both of Edison, N.J., and Shirley Ann Saggese, Lopatcong, N. J.; and five grandchildren.

He was a researcher for 35 years for Bristol Myers Squibb in New Brunswick, N.J.

He was a member of the Maitland Church of the Brethren, Lewistown.

Services will be held at 9 p.m. Wednesday at Taggart-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 305 E. High St., Bound Brook, N.J., with the Rev. Brian E. Miller, pastor of the Somerset Bible Baptist Church, Somerset, N.J., officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Maitland Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Lewistown.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gloria S. Miller
LEWISTOWN - Gloria S. Miller, 76, of 1130 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, died at 9:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 at Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 16, 1923, in Altoona, she was a daughter of the late Howard E. and Elizabeth (Johnston) Sweet. Her husband, John H. Miller, died in 1971.

Surviving are: children, Denise K. Miller, McClure, Daniel E. Miller, Steamboat Springs, Colo., John J. Miller, Uniontown, Barry L. Miller and Robert K. Miller, both of Lewistown; and four grandchildren.

She was a former owner and operator of Kishacoquillas Amusement Park, Lewistown from 1952-1972 and was employed as a financial planner for American Express Financial Services for 20 years.

She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown and the Lewistown Country Club.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Evangelical Church, Third and Main Streets, Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Private interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the parlor of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Suite 101, Altoona, PA 16601.

Grant C. Miller
BETHLEHEM - Grant C. Miller, 73, of 1877 Pennsylvania Ave., Bethlehem, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at his home.

Born March 26, 1926, in Milroy, he was a son of Catherine (Aumiller) Miller of 80 Broad St., Milroy, and the late Willis Andrew Miller. His wife, Ruth M. (Garver) Miller, survives.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Holly Miller Meddei, Allentown; a sister, Jean Hodesh, Hollywood, Fla.; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

He was a United States Marine veteran of World War II.

He was a electronic technician with AT&T, retiring after 30 years of service in 1990.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. John E. Garver officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.

James E. Miller
LEWISTOWN - James E. Miller, 41, of 40 Peace Drive, Apt. 25E, Lewistown, died at 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at his residence.

Born Aug. 11, 1958, in Lewistown, he was a son of S. Marie (Moist) Miller of 2074 Route 103, Lewistown, and the late Frank E. Miller.

His wife, Cara Lou (Hoar) Miller, whom he married March 6, 1999, survives.

Also surviving are: brothers and sisters, Charles E. Miller of 97 N. River Road, Lewistown; Pearl E. Aldinger of 2267 Sand Hill Road, Hershey; John E. Miller of 289 Winding Lane, Lewistown; Frank E. Miller of 516 Lindbergh Way, Lewistown; Mrs. Dwaine (Frances) Shirk of 13 Anita Street, Milroy; and Michael E. Miller of 437 Horningford Road, McVeytown.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Susan E. Miller.

He was a 1976 graduate of Rothrock High School and a 1977 graduate from Computer Technology in Pittsburgh, Pa.

He retired on disability in 1998 from Echo Ultrasound, Reedsville.

He was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church, Granville, and well-known in the area as a crew chief on local race teams.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren with Rev. John Looney and Rev. Donald Peters officiating.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening at the Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, and from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the church.

Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery.

Family will provide all flowers.

John H. Miller Sr.
NORTH LIMA, Ohio - John H. Miller Sr., 91, of 7682 Lee Run Road, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Caprice Health Care Center, North Lima, Ohio.

Born Sept. 14, 1908, in Gravette, Ark., he was a son of the late William A. and Blanche P. (Patterson) Miller. His wife, Doris C. (Partchey) Miller, whom he married March 4, 1946, preceded him in death on May 2, 1992.

Surviving are: John H. Miller, Poland; three daughters, Carolyn Hacker, Somonauk, Ill., Judith A. Wheeler, Collinsville, Conn. and Barbara Trego, Powell, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Miller, W. Wade Miller and Thomas Miller, and four sisters, Elizabeth Neely, Maude Miller, Amelia Watkins and Lois Harroff.

A 1925 graduate of Yeagertown High School, he graduated in 1931 from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio and received his master's degree from the Pennsylvania State University.

He began his career as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse, Rupert School, and taught Grades 1-8 at Kline School, all in Pennsylvania, and also taught from 1931-1941 at Yeagertown High School.

He taught for Poland, Ohio schools for 30 years and was a part-time advanced math teacher at Youngstown State University, retiring in 1976.

He was a member of the Poland Presbyterian Church and its choir and also a member of the American Legion Post 15 in Poland.

A flutist, he was an Army veteran of World War II, where he was a photo interpreter serving in the Pacific Theater. He achieved the rank of captain.

A memorial service will be at noon Saturday, Feb. 19, at Poland Presbyterian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor, Poland, Ohio 44514.
