John W. Milton
MILESBURG - John W. Milton, 83, of Market Street Extended, Milesburg, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Centre Community Hospital.

Born Sept. 15, 1915, he was a son of the late Ernest and Edna Blanche (Stewart) Milton. His wife, Lorraine M. (Walker) Milton, whom he married on June 9, 1941, died Sept. 7, 1993.

Survivng are: sons, Curtis M. Milton of Milesburg and Thomas L. Milton of Bellefonte; sisters, Anna Mae Slemons of Lewistown, Maxine Lucas of Howard and Erma Keen of Harrisburg; and one grandchild.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland and received the American Defense Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three bronze battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Defense Service Medal.

He was a coal operator for Domtar Lime Plant of Bellefonte, retiring in 1980.

He attended the Milesburg Baptist Church and had bowled at Bellefonte Lanes for the Monday Morning Mixed League.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg. Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edmund R. Mingle
MIFFLINTOWN - Edmund R. Mingle, 69, of Mifflintown RR1, died at 8:26 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital.

Born May 3, 1930, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Ralph and Martha (Benner) Mingle. His wife, Evelyn (Beward) Mingle, whom he married Feb. 6, 1959, survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Edmund G. Mingle, Mifflin; stepson, Larry E. Stone, Mifflintown RR1; and two grandsons.

He was a graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown.

He had served the United States Army.

He had worked in construction with the Operating Engineers Local 66 until retiring on disability.

He was a member of Crawford-Brubaker Post 5863 VFW, Mifflintown, the Juniata County Sportsmen's Association, the AARP and the Millerstown Moose.

A memorial service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown, with the Rev. George Reynolds officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Four of Diamonds Fund, Office of University Development, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852.

Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn M. Minium
THOMPSONTOWN - Evelyn M. Minium, 68, of Thompsontown RR1, died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 1999, at her residence.

Born Oct. 31, 1930, in Richfield, she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Chubb) Willow of Millerstown RR2 and the late John Willow. Her husband, Raymond D. Minium, whom she married June 19, 1947, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Raymond C. Minium, Donna M. Hood, and Cindy S. Hower, all of Thompsontown RR1 and Jane E. Wright, Newport RR2; brothers and sisters, John Willow, Richfield, Walter Willow, Millerstown RR2, Linda Keisling, Liverpool, Judy Howell, Newport, and Stella Benner, Maryland; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond.

She was a retired merchandiser for the American Greeting Card Co.

She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Millerstown RR2 and enjoyed crafts and crocheting.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills is in charge of arrangements.

Glenn E. Minium Sr.
MCCLURE - Glenn E. Minium Sr., 57, of 37 Ertley Road, McClure, died at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at the Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine.

Born July 4, 1942, in Derry Township, he was a son of Clarence Minium, Old Stage Road, McClure and the late M. Esther (Peffer) Minium. His wife, Rita (Wray) Minium, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Eric (Lisa) Hoffman, Spring Grove RR1 and Michael J. Minium, McClure; sisters and brother, Mrs. James (Pauline) Fraine, McClure, Betty Wilson, Burnham, and Clarence "Bill" Minium, Newton Hamilton; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn E. "Woody" Minium Jr. in 1990.

He was a member of the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1960-1963.

He was a crane operator for Standard Steel, Burnham, from 1964 until the present.

He was a member of the North American Hunting Club and the United Steelworkers of America, Local 1940. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with Mr. Dan Messerman officiating. Private interment will be in Belltown Cemetery, Decatur Township.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Dorothy E. Mitchell
BEAVERTOWN - Dorothy E. Mitchell, 91, of Beavertown RR1 died at 4 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2000, at her home.

Born Dec. 22, 1908, she was a daughter of the late James and Bessie (Steininger) Herbster. Her husband, Walter M. Mitchell, whom she married in 1926, preceded her in death on July 12, 1987.

Surviving are: a daughter, Barbara J. Bowersox, Beavertown; two sons, Myron M. Mitchell, Troxelville, and Charles E. Mitchell, Beavertown RR1; three sisters, Ruth Walter, Middleburg RR1, Vesta Lessman, Sunbury, and Phyllis Hassinger, Anchorage, Alaska; a brother Glenn Herbster, Beavertown RR1; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, James, in 1943; twin infant granddaughters; a sister in infancy; and four brothers, Donald, Cloyd, Parke and Bruce Herbster.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Troxelville, where she served in various groups.

She retired from Saylor's Shirt Factors in the mid-1970s after many years as a seamstress. She had served on the Adams Township election board for many years and was active in the Troxelville Community Hall.

She enjoyed embroidery and crocheting and dearly loved her family and her church.

Her funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Donald Nice officiating. Interment will be in Troxelville Union Cemetery.

Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Sunday in the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, and the family will receive friends 7-9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Fund of Messiah Lutheran Church, Troxelville, PA 17882.

Lorraine E. Mitchell
MIFFLINTOWN - Lorraine E. Mitchell, 86, a resident of the Brookline Manor and Retirement Village, Mifflintown RR1, formerly of Mifflintown, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at the village.

Born Aug. 20, 1913, in Sunbury, Northumberland County, she was a daughter of the late William M. and Sadie (Warner) Reigle. Her husband, Oscar V. Mitchell, died Dec. 18, 1972.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters.

She was a 1931 graduate of Lewistown High School.

She was a very active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, the Ever Ready Sunday School Class and the Needlers of the Church. She was also a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women of America and the ladies auxiliary of the Mifflintown Hose Company No. 1.

She retired in 1972 from the American Viscose Corporation, Lewistown, with 34 years of service in the Cake Converting Dept.

Grave side services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville, with the Rev. Anna M. Ritter officiating.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 3 S. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth I. Mitchell
MIFFLIN - Ruth I. Mitchell, 82, a resident of Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, formerly of Dry Valley Road, Burnham, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at the village.

Born Dec. 15, 1916, in Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Edward Alvin and Mary Edith (Lovell) Longenecker. Her husband, Paul Thomas Mitchell, died in 1985.

Surviving are: children, Brian Thomas Mitchell, Leola, George Edward Mitchell, San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. Carl (Carol Ann) Hartley, Lewistown; brothers, Edwin Carl Longenecker, Petersburg, and Edward Alvin Longenecker, Warner Robins, Ga.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Jean Mitchell in 1955; and two sisters, Emma Jean Longenecker and Phyllis Meifert.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Burnham, where she was a member of the Women of the ELC, was active in the church choir, and taught Sunday school for many years.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 215 E. Freedom Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Clyde Singh officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There will be no public viewing.

Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

E. Jane Mohler
THOMPSONTOWN - E. Jane Mohler, 72, of 55 E. Main St., Thompsontown, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born Nov. 12, 1927, in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Edith (Adams) Trout. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel A. Mohler.

Surviving are: children, Daniel F. Mohler, Youngstown, Ohio, Mary Sloan, Statesville, N.C., Edith E. Lesh, Newport, and Emily Mitchell, Lewistown; a brother, Clifford Trout, Florida; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She retired from the Harrisburg State Hospital and had been the nursing administrator for several nursing homes.

She was a member of Liverpool United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at David Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Gary Bellis officiating. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
