Martin S. Hartzler
MILL CREEK - Martin S. Hartzler, 79, of HCR 61 Mill Creek, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Altoona Hospital. Born Jan. 8, 1921, in Belleville RR, he was the son of the late Urie D. and Mary E. "Mamie" (King) Hartzler. His wife, Sadie E. (Kauffman) Hartzler, whom he married May 11, 1947, survives. Also surviving are: a foster son, Ronald Ritz, Somerset RR4; a sister, Mrs. Glen (Alta) Hartzler, 26 Applehouse Road, Belleville; foster sisters, Mrs. Crist (Rhoda) Peachey, 10 Amber Drive, Reedsville and Lorene Kauffman, Spring Mills RR. He was preceded in death by two infant sisters, Ada and a stillborn; and two infant brothers. He was a farmer and retired in 1967. He also worked as a construction laborer for APM, Allensville and was a taxi driver. He was a member of the Allensville Mennonite Church and the Senior Men's Golden Age Sunday School Class. He also taught Sunday school at Otelia Mennonite Church, Mount Union RR, was a former member of the Big Valley Men's Chorus, and served in C.P.S. during World War II. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Allensville Mennonite Church, Allensville, with the Rev. Philip Barr and the Rev. Paul Bender officiating. Interment will be in the Allensville Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Allensville Mennonite Church, PO Box 35, Allensville, PA 17002.

Randall C. Hassinger
MECHANICSBURG - Randall C. Hassinger, 70, of 114 North Washington St., Mechanicsburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at his home. Born Oct. 5, 1929, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Samuel and Beulah (Shank) Hassinger. His wife, Margaret "Peg" (Stuck) Hassinger, whom he married June 10, 1950, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Rex C. Hassinger, New York City, Kirk R. Hassinger and Todd B. Hassinger, both of Mechanicsburg; brother, Samuel B. Hassinger, Belleville; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Miles and Therman Hassinger. He served in the United States Army in Japan. He was the retired owner of Hassinger & Company, Mechanicsburg. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mechanicburg, the Mechanicsburg Club, the American Legion 109, and the Middletown VFW 1620. He was also a former member of the Mechanicsburg School Board. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Donald Ciampa, the Rev. Richard Williams and the Rev. Wendell Junkins of officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of the services Sunday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: the First United Methodist Church, 51 West Simpson St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or to Hospice of Central PA, Box 266, Enola, PA 17025. The Gibson-Hollinger Funeral Home Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

Jean E. Hawke
MCVEYTOWN - Jean E. Hawke, 76, of the Rothrock School Apartments, West Holiday Street, McVeytown, formerly of Lewistown, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at her home. Born Sept. 6, 1924, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Charles P. and Blanche (Buchanan) Hawke. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Edgar (Cindy) Porch, Lewistown RR2, Mrs. Kit (Patricia) Elliot, Mount Pleasant, Michael S. Rhoades, Yeagertown, and Richard L. Rhoades, McVeytown; four half sisters; two half brothers; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Early in life, she was employed as a cook at Cargill's Restaurant and Tony's Cottage Inn, both of Lewistown. She was also an in-home cook and aide, and provided dom-care in her home for many years. She attended the Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Juniata Terrace. She was a member of the Granville Fire Company auxiliary and served as secretary for 12 years for the Salvation Army Home League. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, McVeytown, with the Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Granville Fire Company, PO Box 5, Granville, PA 17029.

Enoch Bernard Haywood
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV - Enoch Bernard Haywood, 83, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at his home. Born Jan. 27, 1917, in Hawk Run, he was the son of the late Enoch and Sarah Mae (Wilson) Haywood. His wife of 52 years, Betty Jean (Spaide) Haywood, survives. Also surviving are: children, Lucinda Ann Wojtkowiak, Berkeley Springs, WV and Thomas David Haywood, Raleigh, NC; sisters, Mabel Stafford, Woodstown, NJ and Mildred Kreps, Williamsport, MD; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers, Mary Haywood, Albert Haywood, Alec Haywood, Edward Haywood, Clair Haywood, and Norman Haywood. He was a 1935 graduate of Phillipsburg High School. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He retired in 1982, after 21 years of service as a clerk with the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation, Berkeley Springs, WV. He was a member of the Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60, Berkeley Springs, WV and a member and Elder Emeritus of Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed baseball and golf. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church, 206 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs, WV, with the Rev. Robert S. Osborne officiating. Private interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church, 206 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs, WV 25411. The Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, WV is in charge of arrangements.

Pearl V. Heckert
NEW BLOOMFIELD - Pearl V. Heckert, 75, of Perry Village, New Bloomfield, formerly of Honoman House, Thompsontown, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at the village. Born July 17, 1925, in Schuykill County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Jenny (Boyer) Schoffstall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard O. Heckert. Surviving are: children, Howard Heckert and Barbara King, both of Duncannon, Catherine Barner, Newport, Jenny Heldreth, North Benton, Ohio, and Mary Gardner, Lewistown; two brothers, Lyman Schoffstall and William Schoffstall, both of Harrisburg; stepsisters and stepbrothers, Kenneth Brooker, Middletown, Edwin Schoffstall, Ohio, Genevieve Kuntz and Winifred Keefer, both of Dauphin; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Tyler Swartz. She was a homemaker and a member of Second United Church of Christ, Harrisburg. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, sewing and ceramics. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High St., Duncannon, with the Rev. William Fetrow officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Susanne Louise Heckler
BURNHAM - Susanne Louise Heckler, 46, of 630 E. Freedom Ave., Burnham, died of natural causes Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at her residence. Born July 21, 1954, at Ashland State General Hospital, she was a daughter of the Helen (Williams) Mensch of Aristes, and the late George E. Mensch Sr. Also surviving are: children, Elise Heckler and Dylan Heckler, both at home; a brother and a sister, George E. Mensch Jr., Aristes, and Barbara Gray, New Bloomfield; and several nieces. She lived in Aristes until moving to Burnham in 1980. She was a 1972 graduate of North Schuylkill High School, and she attended Susquehanna University and the West Reading Hospital School of Radiology. She worked as a radiologist at Lewistown Hospital, where she was coordinator of business development of imaging services. She was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran church, Yeagertown, where she was a member of the choir and the bell choir and served as a replacement organ player. She was a member of the American Society of Radiological Technologists and the AHRA Hospital Administrators. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, with the Rev. John Ashbaugh officiating. Interment will be in Zion Cemetery, Aristes. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

John T. Heckman
MIFFLIN - John T. Heckman, 81, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2000 at the village, where he had been a resident for 20 years. Born May 5, 1919, in McAlisterville, he was the son of the late John F. and Amanda (Brubaker) Heckman. He is survived by a sister, Margaret Glick, Belleville and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Heckman and two sisters, Esther Herr and Mary F. Heckman. He attended Liberty Grammar School, McAlisterville. He had attended Delaware Mennonite Church, Thompsontown RR1 and the Lost Creek Mennonite Church, Mifflintown RR2. The viewing and funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Pastor Orval C. Graybill officiating. Interment will follow in the Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Mifflintown RR2. Mabel E. Heister
LEWISTOWN - Mabel E. Heister, 91, formerly of 94 Logan St., Lewistown, died at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. Born April 16, 1909, in Burnham, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Jessie Lee (Goddard) Everly. Her husband, Southard L. Heister, died December 1968. She is survived by four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters; and a son, Charles E. Keefer. She was a homemaker and early in life, she worked at the American Viscose. She was a life member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 143, Lewistown and the Brooklyn Hose Co. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Bernard Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the Vira Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Mooseheart International, Finance Dept. Mooseheart, Il, 60539-1172.
