Pauline M. Kern
BEAVERTOWN - Pauline M. Kern, 85, of Beavertown, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000 at Penn Lutheran Village, where she had been a resident for the past year and a half. Born May 29, 1915 in Spring Township, Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late William Daniel and Mary Jane (Riegel) Peters. Her husband James F. Kern preceded her in death in 1971. Surviving are: children,Mary K. Kerstetter, Beavertown and Edna M. Koh, Rochester, N.Y.; brothers and sisters, Paul Peters, Middleburg, John Peters, Williamsport, Fay A. Walters, Selinsgrove and Alma M. Pontius, Mifflinburg; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Guy, Glen, Erman, Jay and Roy Peters. She was employed as a seamstress for the former Bowman's Department Store. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and church activities. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Beavertown, where she taught Sunday school for more than forty years. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Edward Henry officiating. At her request, there will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Beavertown, PA 17813.

Sarah R. 'Sally' Kern
LEWISTOWN - Sarah R. "Sally" Kern, 82, of 9 Valley St., Lewistown, died at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born July 8, 1918, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Henry F. and Carrie M. (Stout) Kern. She is survived by a sister, Frances M. Kern, Granville. She was a graduate of Lewistown Area High School. She was self-employed. She was a member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Harry W. Kerstetter
STRASBURG - Harry W. Kerstetter, 76, of 11 W. Clover Ave., Apt. 11, Strasburg, died at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000 at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster. Born Aug. 25, 1924 in Milroy, he was a son of the late Robert N. and Susan Mae (Aumiller) Kerstetter. Surviving are: children, John S. Kerstetter, Pottstown, Joseph E. Kerstetter, Birdsboro, Cheryl L. Gauger, Lancaster and Roger Kerstetter, East Earl; a brother, Nelson B. Kerstetter, Milroy; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Harry W. Kerstetter Jr., and by brothers and sisters, Forrest R. Kerstetter, Randel J. Kerstetter, Clifford S. Kerstetter, Robert N. Kerstetter Jr., Susan Bodtorf and Mary Ellen Bonson. He retired in 1987 from Diamond Glass, Royersford. He attended Faith Evangelical Church, Lancaster. His funeral service will be held at noon Monday at Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville, with the Rev. Robert Stahl officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.

Mary Margaret Cramer Kerstetter
MECHANICSBURG - Mary Margaret Cramer Kerstetter, 89, a resident of Bethany Village Retirement Center, Mechanicsburg, formerly of Bedford and Lewistown, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at the village. Born Aug. 2, 1911, in Shade Valley, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Frederick S. and Hannah Margaret (McMullen) Kramer. Her husband, Rev. Earl E. Kerstetter, whom she married July 27, 1940 at the First United Methodist Church in Lewistown, died in November of 1978. Surviving are a son, Dr. David L. Kerstetter, Bedford; a sister, Dorothy Underwood, Baltimore, Md.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was a 1929 graduate of Lewistown High School. She held many positions in the local, district, and conference levels of the United Methodist Church. She also served on the board of the Neighborhood Center, Harrisburg, was a member of the Conference Historical Society and was on the Council of Churches of Greater Harrisburg. She was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church and was affiliated with the Camp Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working with the many children's and women's groups of her husband's parishes. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bedford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Guy Carrigan and the Rev. Robert Reasy officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Association for the Blind, Bedford, PA. The Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home Inc., 214 S. Juliana St., Bedford, is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel M. King
YARDLEY - Ethel M. King, 86, of Yardley, formerly of Lewistown, died at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at ManorCare Nursing Home, Yardley. She was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Harrisburg. Her husband, Clarence King, preceded her in death in 1977. Surviving are two sons, David King, Rensselaer, N.Y., and Richard King, West Windsor, N.J. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Clair, in 1996. She attended the Harrisburg area public schools. She was a homemaker, and later an office administrator for the Agricultural Extension office in Lewistown. She also worked as secretary for the former Heller Funeral Home, Lewistown. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fitzgerald-Sommer Funeral Home at 17 S. Delaware Ave., Yardley. Inurnment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, at a later date. A memorial luncheon for local friends will also be announced later. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Haddonfield Home, 132 Warwick Road, Haddonfield, N.J. 08033.

Jacob Samuel 'Sam' King Jr.
TELFORD - Jacob Samuel "Sam" King Jr., 64, of Telford, formerly of Boyertown, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Philadelphia. Born Nov. 15, 1935, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Jacob S. and Ella (Byler) King. His wife of 35 years, Mary Ann (Yoder) King, survives. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Rev. Erie (Verna) Renno of Belleville. He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul King; three sisters, Effie Yoder, Ruth King and Lydia Yoder; and three infant siblings. He was a 1953 graduate of Belleville High School and attended Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisonburg, Va. for one year. He was a machinery operator for 28 years at Knoll International, East Greenville, retiring in April 2000. He was a member of Boyertown Mennonite Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher, superintendent, trustee, and youth leader. He was an avid sports fan and a former softball umpire for church leagues in the Boyertown area. He also enjoyed reading, traveling and spending winters in Sarasota, Fla. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Boyertown Mennonite Church, 275 Mill St., Boyertown. Interment will be in the adjoining Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:30-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9-9:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Boyertown Mennonite Church, 275 Mill St., Boyertown, PA 19512. The Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel H. King
BELLEVILLE - Samuel H. King, 85, of 3071 W. Back Mountain Road, Belleville, died at 10:08 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 20, 1914, in Reedsville, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Salina (Byler) King. His wife, Mary M. (Zook) King, whom he married Aug. 20, 1939, survives. Also surviving are: children, Jesse W. King and David T. King, both of Hutchinson, Kan., Ivan R. King, Port Royal, Mrs. John (Leah) Harbst, Lewistown, and Gary L. King, Belleville; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Lee G. King and Freddie R. King; two brothers, Levi King and Aaron King; a sister, Annie Byler; and an infant brother and sister. He was a carpenter, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church, Belleville. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Maple Grove Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Ivan E. Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville. Memorial contributions may be made to: Maple Grove Mennonite Church, PO Box 955, Belleville, PA 17004.

Helen C. Kirk
MCVEYTOWN - Helen C. Kirk, 85, of 7 S. Queen St., McVeytown, died at 5:55 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Ohesson Manor nursing home. Born Jan. 22, 1915, in McVeytown, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Grace (Fike) Clark. Her husband, Paul F. Kirk, died Jan. 28, 1996. She was preceded in death by four brothers. She retired from the McVeytown Post Office in 1975 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the McVeytown Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon and a choir member. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the McVeytown Presbyterian Church, Queen and John Streets, McVeytown, with the Rev. Jeanette Rapp officiating. Interment will be in the Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown. There will be no public viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: the McVeytown Presbyterian Church, Queen and John Streets, McVeytown, PA 17051. The Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
