Wesley R. Spearing
MILLMONT - Wesley Robert Spearing, 47, of Millmont RR1, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, on Interstate 80 in West White Deer Township. Born April 9, 1953, in Lewistown, he was a son of Robert W. and Nancy R. (Kanour) Spearing of Millmont RR1. Surviving are: three brothers, Samuel K. Spearing, Perkasie, and David S. Spearing and William P. Spearing, both of Levittown; two sisters, Judith E. Healey, Bensalem, and Mrs. Joel P. (Rebecca) Balasco, Fairless Hills; and nieces and nephews. He was a 1972 graduate of Pennsbury High School, Fairless Hills. In 1972, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was active in Army and Navy reserves for the past 15 years. After leaving the Navy, he worked for Curtis Furniture Store, Levittown. He then worked for the Wonder Chemical Co., Fairless Hills, as a machine operator, then on a cattle farm in New York state before going to Mifflinburg, where he worked for Ritz Craft. Since 1994, he was a maintenance equipment operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Early in life, he was a member of Cub Scout Pack 150 and Boy Scout Troop 90 in Fairless Hills, where he was a den chief. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and gardening in his backyard garden and orchard. He also enjoyed canning and making jelly. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Lincoln Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurelton, with the Rev. Mark R. Shover officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Chapel United Methodist Church, where military rites will be conducted by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410. Family will receive friends from noon until the time of services Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Robert Spearing Memorial Fund, c/o the Safety Committee of the Union/Snyder County Maintenance District, PO Box 207, 150 Sand Hill Road, Selinsgrove, PA 17870. The Roupp Funeral Home, East Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg, is in charge of arrangements.

James A. Speck
MILROY - James A. Speck, 74, of 23 Cabinet Drive, Milroy, died at 5:36 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born June 22, 1926, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Willis and Catherine W. (Peffer) Speck. His wife, Virginia E. (Lyon) Speck, whom he married Sept. 19, 1996, survives. Also surviving are: children, Carol L. Speck and Mrs. Michael (Linda) Beer, both of Milroy, James A. Speck Jr., Yeagertown and Mrs. Robert (Paula) Wright, Lewistown; stepchildren, Mrs. William (Sandra) Ohmn, Fort Wayne Ind., Michael Groom and Lawrence Groom, both of Plymouth, Mass., and Richard Groom, Florence, Mass.; 31 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother, Earl Speck. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. After serving in the Navy for 16 years, he worked as a police officer in Marshfield, Mass., as a delivery truck driver in Northampton, Mass., and then retired due to disability. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown, with the Rev. Derald Stump officiating. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Speck, PO Box 124, Milroy, PA 17063. Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Larry L. Speece Sr.
LEWISTOWN - Larry L. Speece Sr., 48, of 513 South Juniata St., Lewistown, died at 9:44 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at his residence. Born Oct. 29, 1951, in Lewistown, he was the son of Richard Speece of Milroy RR and Patsy (Goddard) Stroup of Lewistown. His wife, Kim (Rager) Speece, whom he married Feb. 14, 1992, survives. Also surviving are: children, Larry L. Speece Jr., Troy L. R. Speece, and Lindi D. Speece, all of Lewistown; sisters, Mrs. Richard (Julia) Reigle, Yeagertown and Mrs. Steven (Barbara) Fultz, Spring Mills; stepfather, William H. Stroup, Lewistown; and stepmother, Patricia M. Speece, Milroy. He was a maintenance mechanic at Empire Kosher, Mifflintown. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lewistown and the National Rifle Association, and was a former Lewistown Auxiliary Police Officer. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. John Looney officiating. There will be no public viewing, but family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Larry L. Speece Sr. Memorial Fund, c/o First Area Federal Credit Union, 23 S. Dorcas St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

M. Evelyn Spickler
MILROY - M. Evelyn Spickler, 79, of University Park Nursing Center, formerly of McClay Street, Milroy, died at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born July 11, 1920, in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late John V. and Charlotte May (Mater) Lantz. Her husband, Roy R. Spickler, whom she married March 7, 1940, died Sept. 19, 1972. Surviving are: two sons, Robert R. Spickler, Huntingdon RR1 and John V. Spickler, Milroy; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Elma Devore, Bessie Forr, Ruth Woodcock, and Shirley Barnes; and five brothers, Milton, William, George, John and Robert Lantz. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Milroy Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and the Adult Sunday School Class of the church. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Larry Sinniger officiating. Interment will be in the Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today and from noon until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Emmanuel Bible Church, RR4, Box 72, Huntingdon, PA 16652 or to Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church, 99 Taylor Drive, Reedsville, PA 17084.

Mildred A. Spickler
MILROY - Mildred A. Spickler, 75, of 8759 Back Mountain Road, Milroy, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg. Born April 8, 1925, in McVeytown, she was a daughter of the late Anthony M. and Sarah Vada (Hitchings) Forshey. Her husband, William H. Spickler, died in 1968. Surviving are: sons, Charles W. Spickler, Lewistown, and Gary L. Spickler, Milroy; brothers, Albert R. Forshey, Milroy, and Anthony M. Forshey, Lewistown; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry L. Spickler in 1985 and David H. Spickler in 1999; seven brothers and two sisters. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with minister Karen L. McCachren officiating. There will be no public viewing, Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Walter E. Spickler
MCVEYTOWN - Walter E. Spickler, 78, of McVeytown, died at 9:49 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 5, 1921, in Oliver Township, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Cora F. (Knepp) Spickler. His wife, Helen M. (Jones) Spickler, whom he married March 6, 1941, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Dyson (Linda) Fisher, Mrs. James (Brenda) Swigart, and Ronald O. Spickler, all of McVeytown, Walter Sheldon Spickler, Lewistown, and Mrs. James (Darlene) Wagner, Burnham; brother and sisters, Ray N. Spickler, Lewistown, Lucretia Smith, Florida, Stella Sunderland, Burnham and Shirley Bookwalter, Mount Union; 24 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, P. Keith Spickler in 1997; a brother, Roy R. Spickler; and a sister, Dorothy Spickler. Early in life, he worked at the American Viscose Corporation and the Royale Dairy Company, both in Lewistown. He retired from Pennsylvania Glass Sand in 1987. He was a member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Red Cross, 21 S. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the American Diabetes Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Suite 106, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Nancy J. Staccone
WILLIAMSPORT - Nancy J. Staccone, 67, of 720 Pennsylvania Ave., Williamsport, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000 at RoseView Center, Williamsport. Born May 6, 1933 in Katonah, NY, she was a daughter of the late Clarence A. and Florence M. (Kline) Michael. Her husband Michael A. Staccone preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1989. Surviving are: a sister, Cora E. Barnes, Granville and a brother, George H. Michael, Lewistown. She was a graduate of Centre Hall High School. She was employed by Sylvania. She was a member of the Church of Ascension, Williamsport. She was a member of the South Williamsport Lioness Club and the South Williamsport Senior Citizens. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of Ascension, 2101 Linn St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Charles J. Cummings officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. The will be no visitation. The Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth F. Stambaugh
LEWISTOWN - Elizabeth F. Stambaugh, 80, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Milroy RR1, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at the nursing home. Born Jan. 11, 1920, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late Fred C. and Blanche (Philips) Fultz. Her husband, Henry A. Stambaugh, died April 2, 1995. Surviving are: children, Charles H. Stambaugh, McClure, Mrs. David (Sandra) Goss, Milroy, Elizabeth A. Loercher, Lancaster, and Mrs. Robert (Judith) Morrill, Leicester, NC.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one sister. She attended Penn State and Lock Haven universities. She was employed by the Mifflin County School District as a fourth-grade teacher at Brown Elementary School, retiring in 1968 with 10 years of service. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Milroy. She enjoyed travel, gardening and the piano. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family and there will be no public viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: Mifflin-Juniata American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
