Monique Wollyung
(May 22, 1925 - August 2, 2015)

Monique Wollyung, 90, of East Stroudsburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2015.

Monique moved here from France after WWII with only the items she could fit in a suitcase, leaving behind her family, friends and bravely arriving to this country on a troop transport boat knowing no one but her husband and not even knowing the language. Monique taught herself our language and persevered to make a good life here. She was a beautiful, loving, kind, witty, intelligent and courageous woman who had the uncanny ability to bring out the best in everyone around her. She was the most loving, and tough Mother you could imagine, and the best friend one could ever wish for.

Monique will be sadly missed, but she did not want those she loved to cry for her. In place of tears she wants to be remembered with a smile and laughter, remember her when you see a flower or hear the song of a bird, and when you feel the gentle kiss of a breeze upon your cheek.

Monique was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Henley, with whom she had three wonderful sons, Patrick Henley and his wife Connie, Robbin Henley and his wife JoAnna, and Perry Henley and his wife Debra. Monique was also predeceased by her second husband, Arthur R Einolf, Jr with whom she had two loving daughters, Linda Dyche and her husband Dean and her beautiful daughter Anita Einolf, and her companion, John. Monique was also predeceased by her third husband, Edward Wollyung. She also has ten grandchildren who adored her, Jeffrey Henley and his wife, Candice, Leslie Henley and her husband, Sal Caiazzo, Andrea Henley, Robbin Henley Jr and his wife, Natasha, Jesse Henley, Steven Snyder, David Snyder, Elizabeth Pincheira and her husband, Nick, Riki Jo Poalillo and her husband Tony and Jessica Eggers; and ten great grandchildren whom she cherished, Caiden and Owen Henley, Josie, Cecily and Evangeline Caiazzo, Aiden and Alaina Pincheira, Anthony and Charlotte Poalillo, and Tyana Monique Snyder.

Many may remember Monique from her years of working at J.J. Newberry's, The Famous Department Store on Crystal Street, or her 30 years as "The Cookie Lady" at the bakery in Mr Z's/Weiss market.

Memorial visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:30PM on Thursday, August 6, Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. Private burial will take place at Laurelwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a donation to Meals on Wheels or home hospice would be appreciated.

Edwin Krawitz, Esq.
(July 19, 1928 - July 30, 2015)

U.S. Veteran
Edwin Krawitz, Esq., died on July 30, 2015, at the age of 87. He was a spirited, irrepressible and tireless man, in public and in private, professionally and avocationally. He loved people, community involvement and getting worthwhile things done. He was both an accomplished lawyer and a passionate, enthusiastic, dedicated long-distance runner, credited by many as the founding father of popular, fitness running in the Poconos.

He was born on July 19, 1928, in Honesdale, Pennsylvania and grew up in Hawley, during the Great Depression. He was the son of Simon and Mollie Krawitz, late, of Hawley, and preceded in death by his kid brother, Eugene Krawitz, of Woodbury, New Jersey.

Ed’s ambition to become a lawyer took hold at a very early age, inspired by his elder cousin, venerable Milford attorney, Sidney L. Krawitz, Esq. Ed attended University of Scranton for one year, transferring to the University of Pennsylvania with the aid of ROTC commitment and needed scholarship funding. He earned a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at Penn in 1950.

The pursuit of his Law degree from the University. of Pennsylvania Law School in 1955 was interrupted by service in the United States Army serving in Germany during the Korean conflict, honorably discharged at the rank of 2nd Lt. Quartermaster Corps. Ed was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1956 and opened his general practice in Monroe County in 1957, at a time when the number of lawyers serving the community could barely fill a jury box.

His professional and community-centered accomplishments were manifold. Among them, Special Assistant Attorney General; Counsel to Real Estate Transfer Tax Division, Bureau of County Collections, Department of Revenue, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 1964-66, and Solicitor for the Borough of East Stroudsburg from the mid-60s through ~1971.

Ed served as President of: Pocono Mountains Jaycees (raising first dollars for, and opening, the Burnley Sheltered Workshop in 1964), Stroudsburg Kiwanis Club, Temple Israel, Stroudsburg High School Band Parents and Morey Elementary School PTA, Young Republicans of Monroe County, and the Pocono Athletic Club (predecessor to the current Pocono Area Running Club) .

Ed competed in 9 consecutive Boston Marathons (1974-1983), breaking 3 hours in one of those races in the 50-54 age group, among his total 26 marathons and countless half marathons, 10Ks, etc. He competed in the VIII World Veterans’ Championships in Eugene, Oregon, and the World Association of Veteran Athletes Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. He was inducted into the Wayne Area Sports Hall of Fame in his native Wayne County in 2001.

Ed truly loved running, which he held directly responsible for overcoming a number of significant health conditions and challenges. He shared and championed his passion for running like a sacred cause, proselytizing its benefits to everyone, recruiting and inspiring many to give it a try, a fact which was specially recognized at the first Run For The Red Pocono Marathon awards ceremony in 2006. He was the Founder, Organizer and Race Director since 1984 of the Monroe County Bar Association’s Law Day “Race Judicata”, one of the oldest charity running races in the Commonwealth.

Ed established and organized the Kiwanis Pre-School for Mentally and Physically Handicapped Children and served as a director on several boards, including Monroe County Heart Association, Visiting Nurse’s Association, Cancer Society of Monroe County and Northeastern Pennsylvania Environmental Council; served as Treasurer, Children’s Aid Society, Secretary, Pocono Mountain Baseball League and Babe Ruth Baseball League, and chaired and assisted numerous charitable fund-raising drives including YMCA, Community Chest, Cancer Drive and Burnley Workshop Drive.

Ed was Co-Founder of the Pocono Environmental Club, a grass-roots, activist organization that spearheaded an ultimately successful, five-year battle in opposition to a proposed garbage-to steam incinerator facility. In the early 1960s, he served as legal counsel for the Monroe County Chapter of the NAACP, and was invited to attend Gov. William Scranton's first conference on human rights. He was also proud to have incorporated the Unity Coalition of the Poconos, established by Bill Hillman, in the early 1990s.

Ed was appointed in 1995 to the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and served on Penn’s Athletic Advisory Board. He was the 1994 Recipient of the Abraham Lincoln Award presented by the MCRC, was awarded the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, and while studying at Penn, received the McKean Law Club “Outstanding Student Award”.

Ed was an ardent supporter and fan of collegiate and professional sports. He relished campaign politics and plied himself to the political process on national, state and local levels. He acquired a private pilot’s license, fulfilling a life-long dream and gaining some notoriety for his aviation intrepidity. He loved to sing and did so for years with the Barbershop Chorus of the Poconos. Perhaps most of all, he loved to cook (and eat), particularly when massive amounts of garlic were involved- the zeal with which Ed advocated for his famous There's-No-Such-Thing-As-“A-Little-Garlic” Garlic Spread reached evangelical proportions, as did (and do) the odoriferous consequences of its consumption.

Ed is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara, daughter Minda, son Steven, granddaughter Mollie, cousin Eugene “Artie” Glantz, and beloved nieces, a nephew and relatives. Our husband, father, grandfather, cousin and uncle had an infectious, playful charm, ferocious drive and boundless energy that are still hard to fathom.

Funeral services will be promptly held in the Jewish tradition at Temple Israel of the Poconos, 711 Wallace Street, Stroudsburg, PA on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 12:00 noon with burial immediately following at Laurelwood Cemetery. A repast will be offered back at the Temple after interment. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by your donation in remembrance to the charity or noble cause of your choice.
