John R. Masten
(December 26, 1972 - November 21, 2017)

John Robert Masten, 44, of Saylorsburg, completed his earthly journey to go home to be with our heavenly father on the evening of Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at home surrounded by loved ones. He remained a strong warrior kicking ass with his journey of 12 years dealing with the diagnosis of glioblastoma multiform brain cancer.

John was born on a cold and icy night in East Stroudsburg, PA on December 26, 1972. He was the beloved son of Linda (Masten) Mason-Myers of Saylorsburg and Allyn Mason of Allentown who raised and enhanced his life from the age of nine months.

Johnny remained employed by ARL Trucking in Easton as owner-operator of his big rig "Big Red", until his second brain surgery in July 2014. He had many interests and his passion was Flight Club Moyer Aviation to which he performed his first solo flight on September 15, 2005 in a Piper Cadet.

He was an outstanding mechanic which consumed his total being all his life. His pride and joy was the 1984 Monte Carlo restored from scratch. He was a member of the Monroe County Cruisers, enjoying the weekly get togethers with his friends. He received many trophies for his skill of making the "Monte" shine. He attended Pleasant Valley High School and was of the Christian faith.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, RC planes and cars. He was very good at photography, taking many pictures of caves and mines he explored with his buddies. Jim Thorpe was his favorite town. Four wheeling, motorcycles, rat rod ... he did it all.

He was born a scrapper which in later years explained with laughter that his "second homes" were junk yards, looking for all those treasures.

In addition to his parents, surviving are his son, Jonathan Allyn Masten and Jonathan's mother, Lisa Kulmany-Johnson. He is also survived by uncles, Bobby Masten and Neil Masten; aunt, Doris; great aunt, dear Irene Masten; his four buddies, Alan, Alito and TJ Meckes and Frank Disavo, who were at his side during his entire journey of the diagnosis; and his beloved pets, Henry, Charlie, Gump, Flipper and Stinky. John loved chipmunks and goats; having once brought home a goat to his mother at 3:30AM in her kitchen. He is also survived by many cousins and nieces who all gave encouragement and love.

Being blessed and loved by all his life-long friends so difficult to explain how special, true and caring they are. So grateful as well as his loving neighbors who always helped at anytime.

"Fly high my sweet boy - till we all see you again."

The viewing will begin at 2:00PM followed by funeral service at 3:00PM on Thursday, November 30, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. Hospice chaplain, Rev. Dr. Dean Frey will officiate. Private cremation will follow with burial at a later date at Stroudsburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Clark Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses.
