Roy E. Deibler

Roy E. Deibler, 83, of 312 East Third St., Watsontown, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

Born December 6, 1925 in Elizabethville, he was a son of the late J. Daniel and Estella (Bender) Deibler.

He and his wife of 62 years, the former Miriam M. Jury, were marriage June 15, 1946.

A 1944 graduate of Elizabethville High School, Roy worked for 37 years at the Glen Gery Brick Co. in Watsontown, retiring in 1985. He also worked part time as a clerk at Allen’s True Value for 15 years. In addition, Roy and his wife owned and operated the Watson Theatre for 25 years, until selling it in 1995. Northumberland County presented him with a certificate of recognition as an outstanding older worker.

Roy was a member of Watsontown Lodge #401 F & AM and the Williamsport Consistory, where he sang in the choir with a double quartet called “The Achihers.” He enjoyed hunting and also traveled extensively, both here and abroad.

He was a member of Watsontown United Methodist Church, and a former member of First Lutheran Church, Watsontown, where he was a Sunday school superintendent, song leader and council member.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Miriam, are one son and daughter-in-law, Rick E. and Patricia Deibler of Jamison; one daughter and son-in-law, Darla L. and Charles Barefoot of Watsontown; three brothers, Robert Deibler of Elizabethville, Galen Deibler of Halifax and Donald Deibler of Tower City; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jackie Deibler Moll, who died in 1970; a sister, Viola Shambach; and 3 brothers, Paul, Miles and Russell Deibler.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Douglas M. Eberly. Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions be made to Watsontown United Methodist Church building fund, 11 E. Third St., Watsontown, PA 17777.

Karen M. Moyer (Pittenger)
(April 22, 1968 - August 10, 2015)

Karen M. Moyer (Pittenger), 47, a resident of Watsontown, PA, formerly of Montgomery, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 10, 2015 at her residence. Born in Muncy Creek Twp., Lycoming County, PA, on Monday, April 22, 1968, she was the daughter of the late Theryl E. "Ted" Moyer, Jr. and Roberta L. (Foye) Moyer-Bergman who survives her of Uniontown, OH.

Karen was a 1986 graduate of Montgomery High School. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her pets.

In addition to her mother and step-father, Bobbie and Bob Bergman of Uniontown, OH, she is survived by her son, Ryan L. Pittenger, New Columbia, PA; one brother, Todd and wife Cathy Moyer, Cincinnati, OH; two step-siblings, Todd and wife Jodi Bergman, Collegeville, PA; Michelle and husband Tim Hansberry, Schwenksville, PA; her grandmother, Jane Bergman, Watsontown, PA. Karen is also survived numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Theryl and L. Myrel Moyer; maternal grandparents, Robert and MaryLou Foye and grandpa "Slim" Bergman.

Graveside services will be conducted in the Green Lawn Memorial Park, 62 Route 54 Highway, Montgomery, PA at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, August 14, 2015 with Rev. Robert O. Rice, Jr., pastor of the White Deer Charge of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 40 E. Houston Avenue, Montgomery, PA.

Robert G. Betzer
(April 5, 1925 - November 13, 2011)
U.S. Veteran

Robert G. Betzer, 86, a resident of Milton, PA, formerly of Lewisburg for 63 years, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011 in the RiverWoods at Lewisburg where he had been a guest for the past week. Born in Mahoning Twp., Montour County, PA, on Sunday, April 5, 1925, he was the son of the late Merrill H. and Nancy (Ranck) Betzer. Bob was raised in the Odd Fellows Orphanage at Sunbury.

He was the husband of Janet M. (Hettinger) Betzer with whom he celebrated a 63rd wedding anniversary on July 5, 2011.

He attended Sunbury High School. Bob honorably served his country during the Second World War with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. He was employed as a supervisor by the former Lewisburg Chair and Furniture Co. from 1943 to 1965 and retired from the Young Door Co. at Sunbury in 1986 where he had been employed as a night supervisor since 1965.

Bob was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church at Lewisburg where he was a former Sunday School superintendent, president of St. Paul's Men, Sunday School teacher and trustee. Bob was a Sunday speaker for the Pennsylvania Council on Alcohol Problems. He was a member and past vice-president of the Union County Sunday School Association where he received the 50 Year Service Sunday School Award. Bob was a charter member of V.F.W. Post 7715 at Lewisburg, In 1943 he became a member of Lewisburg Lodge #96, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and became very active in various groups associated with the lodge. He was past State Grand Chaplain, past president and treasurer of the Central PA Odd Fellows and Rebekah's Anniversary Association, past president and member of the board of the former Odd Fellows Orphanage at Sunbury where he was involved in the Alumni Association, a former board member of the I.O.O.F. Home at Middletown and was also a member of Faith, Hope & Charity Rebekah Lodge. Bob enjoyed hunting and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Nancy E. Kessler, Saratoga, CA; Galen R. and Josette Betzer, Muncy, PA; Ginny L. and Lee Shreck, Milton, PA; nine grandchildren, Dione Wright; Christian Kessler; Adrienne Phillips; Danielle Mina; Andreasha Gardner; Andrea Poehler; Alissa Detman; Justin Betzer; Andrew Shreck. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Betzer and Margaret Kooney and by two brothers, Merrill H. (Hebe) Betzer, Jr. and William H. Betzer, Sr.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 42 S. Fourth Street, Lewisburg, PA at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 with Rev. Judi A. Dunkelberger, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Lewisburg Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. at the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main Street, Muncy, PA or on Tuesday from 12:00 - 1:30 P.M. at the church. Lewisburg IOOF Lodge #96 will conduct a memorial service on Tuesday at 11:45 A.M. at the church. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Lewisburg area veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 42 S. Fourth Street, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Joan L. VanHoute

Joan L. VanHoute, 69, of 1281 Turbot Ave., Watsontown, died Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born Sept. 2, 1939 on the family farm in Delaware Twp., Northumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Charles B. and Mildred Alberta (O’Connor) Reynolds.

She and her husband of 45 years, Albert VanHoute, were marriage July 20, 1963 at the St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, Montgomery.

Joan was employed as a seamstress at the former Turbotville Dress Co. for 26 years until retiring in 1997. Prior to that, she worked at the former Bobbie Brooks in Montgomery for six years.

She was a member of Watsontown Baptist Church.

Her family was very special to her, and she and her husband took every opportunity to spend time with their children and grandchildren, including family camping trips and babysitting for the grandkids. She and Albert also enjoyed attending bingo and going for walks together. Her family greatly enjoyed her delicious cookies, brownies and other baked goods.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Gwendolyn VanHoute and David and Patty VanHoute, all of Watsontown; four grandchildren, Angelica, Zach, Angus and Bailey VanHoute, all of Watsontown; five brothers, Richard, Larry, Donald and Mark Reynolds, all of Watsontown, and Wayne Reynolds of Milton; one sister, Diane Gray of Watsontown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Alberta Warren.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Officiating will be her pastor, Rev. James Ritter, assisted by Rev. Michael C. Reece, pastor of Delaware Run Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

The family welcomes flowers; however, if desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Lycoming Unit American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Dorothy G. “Dot” Finnerty

Dorothy G. “Dot” Finnerty, 87, of Watsontown, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Evangelical Community Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Watsontown United Methodist Church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Watsontown United Methodist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 35, Watsontown, PA 17777.
