Barbara J. Whipple

Barbara J. Whipple, 71, a resident of Kramm Health Care Center, Milton, passed away, Monday, May 17, 2010 in the Emergency Room of Evangelical Community Hospital.

Born September 14, 1938 in Sunbury, she was the daughter of late Arthur and Rachel (Bingaman) Poff.

Her husband, Lewis Whipple preceded her in death on November 24, 2003.

Retiring in 2006, Barbara held many positions of employment throughout her life, including the former Milton Shoe Factory, Milton.

An avid crafter, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, also loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed an occasional fishing outing.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Simon and Jan Dershem III of Lewisburg and Dennis and Brenda Dershem of Millmont; three daughters and one son-in-law, Rachel Dershem of Mifflinburg, Ethel and John Hollenbach of Watsontown and Pauline Dershem of New Columbia; a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Linda Poff of Milton; two sisters, Kathleen Taylor of Blaine and Shirley Poff of Mifflinburg; nineteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son, Michael Dershem in 1994, a sister, Joyce Derr on January 3, 1999 and a grandson, James Hinson in 2005.

Friends will be received from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, St. Louis and South Second Streets, Lewisburg, where the funeral will follow at 6 p.m.

Officiating will be the Rev. John E. Lee of West Milton United Methodist Church.

The family welcomes flowers; however, if desired, memorial contributions may be made to the S.P.C.A., 2801 Bloom Road, Danville, PA 17821.

Mary K. Brungard

Mary Kathryn “Connie” Brungard, 86, formerly of Warrior Run Manor, First Street, Watsontown and the Milton area, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Kramm Nursing Home, Watsontown.

Born October 5, 1923 in Delaware Township, Northumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel R. and Edith (McQuiston) McCormick.

Her husband of 56 years, Paul L. Brungard, preceded her in death December 9, 1996.

Connie worked as a Nurses Aid at the former United Methodist Home, now RiverWoods, Lewisburg and also did independent home care. Earlier in her life she was a factory worker.

Connie was a member of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, White Deer.

Surviving are two sons, William S. Brungard of Watsontown and J. Richard Brungard of Bellefonte; four daughters, Linda M. Posten and Gail Y. Cunningham both of Williamsport, Paula L. Brungard of San Antonio, Texas and Kathryn A. Brungard of Jacksonville, Florida; two sisters, Ulele Stamford of Virginia Beach, VA and O’Zella Greiff of Watsontown; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

The family would like to thank the staff of Kramms, Watsontown and Evangelical Hospice for the wonderful care given Connie in her final days.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, at Highland Cemetery, New Columbia with her nephew, Rev. Edward E. Prowant, pastor of Phelps Chapel United Methodist Church, Jersey Shore, officiating.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Evangelical Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main Street, Watsontown.

Alan R. Stahl

Alan R. Stahl, 56, of Espy passed away Friday, June 17, 2011, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, McEwensville.

Burial will be in McEwensville Cemetery with full military honors.

Abraham M. Arnold

Abraham “Abe” M. Arnold, 69, of Herman Rd, Selinsgrove, passed away, Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born February 15, 1941 in Watsontown, a son of the late Grant and Mary E. (Bennett) Arnold.

A graduate of Watsontown High School, Abe owned and operated his own contracting business, Arnold Home Improvement, until his retirement in 2006.

A member of the N.R.A., he loved the outdoors, hunting and the mountains.

A past member of the Penn Wheelers and Country Twirlers square dance clubs, Abe enjoyed music and dancing.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Northumberland.

Abe is survived by six children; Emily Arnold and fiancé James Showers of New Columbia, Abraham Arnold of Sabina, Ohio, Myles Arnold of Harlem, GA, Jeffrey Arnold of Altus OK, Eddy Arnold of Leesburg, GA, and Valerie Arnold and fiancé Keven Bowen Kreamer; five grandchildren, Kayla and Ryan Deivert, Sierra Dempsey, Danny and Nicole Arnold and two great-grandchildren, Hailey and James Hakes; two brothers and three sisters.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg.

Irvin E. Gaugler

Irvin E. “Buss” Gaugler, 91, of 237 Baylor Rd., Watsontown, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Kramm Nursing Home, Watsontown.

Born July 11, 1918 in Northumberland, he was a son of the late Irvin D. and Annie (Kerstetter) Gaugler. On April 21, 1940, he marriage the former Louise F. Heckman, who preceded him in death in 1977 after 37 years of marriage.

Buss was a 1936 graduate of Northumberland High School. He served as a radarman in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Following his discharge, Buss was employed as a manager at Weis Markets in Milton and Northumberland for 49 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a 50-year member of the Milton American Legion Post 71 and a member of F&AM Lodge 256, Milton, and the AARP.

In addition, he was a former member of the Anthracite Model Railroad Club, Shamokin.

Buss had a love of model railroading, and also enjoyed working around the house, attending church suppers and going on bus trips.

Surviving are three sons, Kenneth A. (Bonnie) Gaugler of Milton, Donald I. (Tina) Gaugler of New Zealand and Jeffrey S. Gaugler of Watsontown; eight grandchildren, Kim Keifer, Angie Troutman, Brad Gaugler, Dawn Louise Mark, Philip Gaugler, Greg, Cindy and Debbie Gaugler; seven great-grandchildren; and his companion of ten years, Althea Troester of Watsontown.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Theron Gaugler, and two sisters, Myrtle Mantz and Violet Epler.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown where a Masonic service will be held at 7:45 p.m.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Officiating will be Rev. Cheryl L. Berner, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Milton.

Burial with full military honors will follow in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions be made to the Milton American Legion Post 71, 401 N. Front St., Milton, PA 17847 or to the Warrior Run Area Fire Department, P.O. Box 8, Watsontown, PA 17777.
