GREGORY B. SMITH
Gregory Bernard “Greg” Smith, 77, of E. Main Street, McAlisterville, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004 in Brookline Manor Nursing Care Center, Mifflintown RR 1.

He was born June 12, 1927 in New Cumberland to the late Ira J. and Margaret (Campbell) Smith.

He initially was employed by United Telephone Company, Newport, then worked for various jewelry stores and retired in 1989 from Oregan Manufacturing Company, Brownstown, Pa.; a 1945 graduate of Newport High School; a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Millerstown RR 2; and enjoyed cars of all kinds.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Grace N. Troutman Smith; a son, Timothy Lee, at home; and a cousin, Ruth Mason of Hanover.

Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Millerstown RR 2.

Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, handled arrangements.

MARLIN M. SWEGER
Marlin M. “Bud” “Sweg” Sweger, 87, of Newport died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004 in Harrisburg Hospital.

He was born Feb. 5, 1917 in Newport to the late Charles and Kathryn (Miller) Sweger.

He was retired from the former Pennsylvania Railroad and Keystone Railway Equipment Co., and enjoyed railroad books and sports.

He was the widower of Virginia Campbell Sweger.

Surviving are a daughter, Peggy S. Heisey, and two grandsons, Todd Heisey and Michael Heisey, all of Newport; four great-grandchildren, Rachel, Caleb, Lauren and Drew Heisey; a niece, Mary K. Davis of Newport; and two-grandnephews, Christopher and Shane Davis.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Doyle and Alberta Blough.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22, in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Edward Baugh officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday.

WILBUR E. BLACK
Wilbur E. “Gene” Black, 73, of Windy Hill Road, Shermans Dale, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born Sept. 13, 1931 in Tennessee to the late Ralph D. and Katherine V. (Stump) Black.

He was an Air Force retiree, serving during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War; owner/operator of a service station in Lemoyne until the 1972 flood; an over-the-road truck driver and a member of Teamster’s Local 776; and an antique car enthusiast, an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, birds and other wildlife and cooking for his family and friends.

Surviving are a companion of 39 years, Loretta A. Neill of Shermans Dale; three daughters, Loretta A. Hocker of Duncannon, Lynda K. Shultz of Wheatfield, Ind., and Lori Black of Maryland; two sons, Kevin and Glenn Black, both of Maryland; a brother, Paul Black of Maryland; four sisters, Helen Houser of Charlestown, W.Va., Dorothy Poe of W.Va., Betty Possidente of Maryland and Patsy Black of Tennessee; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary W. Neill, and a brother, Gus Black.

A memorial service was held Dec. 2 in Shermans Dale Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Graybill officiating.

Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, handled arrangements.

DONALD R. GILINGER
Donald R. Gilinger, 51, of Collegeville died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 at home.

He was born Aug. 2, 1953 in Norristown to Kathryn Hunsicker Gilinger of Collegeville and the late Frank I. Gilinger.

He was a concrete mason; a former resident of Perry County, where he worked for Spiral Path Farm, Loysville; an artist in wood furniture making, owning Gillinger Rustic Furniture Co. in Plymouth Meeting; a 1971 graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, where he played football and baseball and wrestled; and an avid sports fan.

In addition to his mother, surviving are two brothers, John I. of W. Norriton and Chris R. of Royersford; and nieces and nephews.

Services were held Dec. 1 in Lownes Funeral Home, Lafayette Hill.

ELSIE A. MCFADDEN
Elsie A. McFadden, 86, of Millerstown and formerly of Andrews, N.C., died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 at Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.

She was born July 29, 1918 in New Philadelphia, Ohio to the late Edward and Edith Thomas.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She was the widow of Robert McFadden.

Surviving are five stepchildren, Michael McFadden of Vail, Colo., Dale Sweeney of Denver, Colo., Mary Kim Hutcheson of Millerstown, Nancy Bachor of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Wendy Branan of Savannah, Ga.; 13 stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 7 in Towson-Rose Funeral Home, Andrews, N.C. Burial was in Green Lawn Memorial Garden, Murphy, N.C.

Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled local arrangements.

ALICE M. BOYD
Alice M. Boyd, 99, of Newport died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004.

She was the widow of Robert H. Boyd Sr.

Surviving are two sons, Robert and David; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

VICTORIA V. HACKENBERGER
Victoria V. Hackenberger, 83, formerly of Rye Twp./Marysville, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004 in ManorCare, Carlisle.

She was born July 12, 1921 in Platte County, Neb. to the late Andrew C. and Katherine (Olsufka) Leas.

She was devoted to her family and church, of which she and her husband were founding parishioners; a graduate of Lincoln University, Neb., with a teaching degree, and a former teacher in a one-room school; employed at the former Bell Grill, Harrisburg, and Clara’s Dutch Kitchen, Marysville; and a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Marysville, where she was past president and secretary of the Parish Council of Catholic Women.

She was the widow of Leo Banks Hackenberger, to whom she was married 55 years.

Surviving are three sons, Daniel L. of Summerdale, Richard R. of St. Peters, Mo., and William C. of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Michelle V. Stallings of St. Louis, Mo., Paul R. Hackenberger of Raytown, Mo., Rebecca L. Regan of Vernon, Conn., and Sgt. Jeffrey Hackenberger, serving in the Army in Germany; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and John Regan of Vernon, Conn.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy K. Hackenberger.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 10, in her church, Maple and Chestnut streets, Marysville. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Harrisburg.

Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, and 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, in Shalonis Funeral Home, 206 Maple Ave., Marysville.

JOAN M. LOVELAND
Joan M. Loveland, 55, of Mountain Road, Millerstown, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at home.

She was born Dec. 11, 1948 in New York to the late Lawrence Opedal and Romilda Pingitore.

She was a caregiver.

Surviving are two daughters, Nicole A. Cunningham of Harrisburg and Amanda E. Loveland of Wormleysburg; a sister, Elizabeth Kresge-Paul of Lancaster; and a grandchild, Morgayne L. Cunningham.

A memorial service was held Dec. 4 in New Bloomfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roz Mason officiating.

ALBERT C. CLOUSER
Albert C. “Sam” Clouser, 94, of Clouser Hollow Road, New Bloomfield, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born July 29, 1910 in Centre Twp. to the late Cornelius and Ida Mae (Kitner) Clouser.

He was retired from Capital Products.

He was the widower of Vertie Reisinger Clouser and Thelma Freeland Clouser.

Surviving are a son, Glenn M. of New Bloomfield; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin N., and a granddaughter, Carol Clouser.

Services were held Dec. 6 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Little Germany Stone Church Cemetery, Elliottsburg.

O. ELIZABETH PETERMAN
O. Elizabeth “Sis” Peterman, 99, formerly of Newport and Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was born April 22, 1905 in Keystone, S.D.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Newport, and enjoyed cooking.

She was the widow of Albert M. Peterman and was preceded in death by a son, Albert A.

Services were held Dec. 7 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Jay B. Eickhoff officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 3211 N. Front St., Harrisburg 17110.

HARRY R. SANDERS
Harry Robert Sanders, 84, of Marysville died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born April 24, 1920 in Duncannon to the late Forrest Robert and Helen Irene (Toland) Sanders.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and seriously wounded Aug. 8, 1944 in Mortain, France; a life member of Third Armored Division Association “Spearhead” of World War II, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans Post 50, Military Order of Purple Heart, VFW Post 882, where he was a past commander, American Legion Post 340, Duncannon, Marysville Fire Company and Marysville Sportsmen’s Association; a member of National Order of Corpsmen and Combat Medics and Marysville Church of God, where he served on the church council; and a former Marysville Borough Councilman.

Surviving are his wife, Delois E. Baer Sanders; a daughter, Barbara Jo Sanders Stone of Duncannon; three sisters, Freda May Sout-ner of Camp Hill, Helen Louise Luckenbaugh and Betty Irene Miller, both of Marysville; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 5 in his church. Burial, with military honors, was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Marysville.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

ZELLA I. ALLEN
Zella Isenberg Allen, 80, of Lower Paxton Twp., and formerly of Rutherford, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 at home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1924 in Port Royal to the late John and Irene (Henry) Isenberg.

She was retired as a supervisor for Hershey Chocolate Company; attended Ickesburg High School; a member of Chambers Hill United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Eggers, Farm Women and Railroad Retirees Association; and enjoyed gardening and golfing.

She was the widow of Earle Allen.

Surviving are a daughter, Beverly J. Allen Sturgeon of Export; a sister, Iola Smith of Elliottsburg; a brother, Harold Isenberg of Camp Hill; two grandchildren, Timothy John Sturgeon of Irwin and Jennifer Mae Sturgeon of Rochester; and two great-granddaughters, Brenna Morgan Sturgeon and Brianne Elizabeth Sturgeon, both of Irwin.

Services were held Nov. 15 in her church with the Rev. Stephen G. Portner officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Twp.

Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Hummelstown, handled arrangements.
