MABEL J. CASNER
Mabel J. Casner, 71, of Loysville RR 1 died Thursday, April 15, 1999 at home.
She was born June 11, 1927 in Ickesburg to the late John L. and Hester E. (Reisinger) Barnes.
She retired as a clerk from the state Department of Transportation, Harrisburg; was a member of Sandy Hill United Church of Christ, Loysville RR 1; and was a volunteer with several organizations.
Surviving are her husband, H. Lee Casner; two sons, Harold R. and Ronald L., both of Loysville RR 1; two daughters, Betty J. Thomas of Loysville RR 1 and Sandra K. Schumacher of Shermans Dale; two brothers, John R. Barnes of Millerstown and Larry Barnes of Newport; three sisters, Thelma Waller and Ethel Weibley, both of Loysville RR, and Betty Wingert of Liverpool; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Ganger; two brothers, Lester and Earl Barnes; and a granddaughter, Katie Jane Thomas.
Services were held April 19 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. John S. Kipp officiating. Burial was in Blain Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1500 N. Second St., Harrisburg 17102, or to Comfort Care, 205 Grandview Ave., Third Floor, Camp Hill 17011.

CLAIRE M. CASSATT
Claire Marie Neeley Cassatt, 98, formerly of Newport, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999 in Shady Grove Nursing Home, Rockville, Md.
Affectionately known as Aunt Claire by family and close friends, she was a retired elementary schoolteacher; a graduate of Newport High School and the former Shippensburg State Teachers College; member of Colonial Park United Church of Christ, its Friendship Club and Edna Hoke Sunday School Class, Harrisburg and Ridgeview garden clubs and the National Retired Teachers Association.
She was the widow of Linus M. Cassatt.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Barbara L. Cassatt of Severn, Md., and Gladys A. Gochnauer of Lancaster; two step-grandchildren; a nephew, Jack D. Neeley of Highland, Calif.; and two nieces, Arlene S. Kennedy of Phoenix, Ariz., and Betty N. Fleisher of Harrisburg.
Services were held Jan. 16 in Hetrick Funeral Home, Harrisburg. Burial was in Rolling Green Cemetery.

JEAN D. CHARLES
Jean D. Charles, 68, of Roseglen died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999 at home.
He was born Sept. 4, 1930 in Clay County, Mo., to the late Paul and Mildred (Desvernine) Charles.
He was an equipment operator for the state Department of Highways and a broker for Arco Auto Carriers in the 1950s; a justice of the peace from 1968 to 1974 at Roseglen; owned and operated a coal delivery route for 35 years and retired early in 1999; and attended Rutgers University in 1947 and North Carolina State University in 1952.
Surviving are a son, Valentine J. of Carlisle.
Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.

NELSON S. CHARLES
Nelson S. Charles, 84, of Thompsontown RR 1 died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999 in Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.
He was born July 14, 1915 in Liverpool Twp. to the late John A. and Sarah (Sarver) Charles.
He was owner/operator of Charles Brothers Meat Market, Liverpool, with his brother, John, and also worked as a shovel operator at Quigley's Quarry, Oakland Mills.
He was an Army veteran of World War II; attended Centerville Lutheran Church, Perry Valley, and East Salem United Methodist Church; a member of Newport American Legion; and enjoyed woodworking.
He was the widow of Hannah B. Brubaker Charles, who died April 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra K. Rhoads of Mifflintown RR 2; a brother, John of Liverpool; two step-grand-children; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six sisters.
Services were held Sept. 1 in Sheaf-fer Funeral Home, McAlisterville, with pastor Robert Gray officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in East Salem Cemetery.

EUGENE I. CHERMELA
Eugene I. Chermela, 67, of North Wales, formerly of Warrington, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999 at home.
He was born in Glenside to the late Nicholas and Carmela (Capitosti) Chermela.
He was the former owner of Gene's Hairstyling in Levittown and for the last 15 years had been a salesman for C&C Ford in Horsham, and a Coast Guard veteran during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Elinor (Wise) Chermela, formerly of Perry County; two daughters, Adrienne Gavin of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and Carol Ann Moriarty of Kernersville, N.C.; two sons, Daniel of Ambler and Matthew of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Joan Boyle of Littleton, Colo.; two brothers, Robert of Henderson, N.C., and Nicholas of Lansdale; and five granddaughters; Kathleen and Chelsea Gavin, Erin, Elaina and Janel Moriarty.
A memorial Mass was held Aug. 10 in Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, Montgomeryville.
Schneider Funeral Home, Hatboro, handled arrangements.

GLORIA J. CHOHANY
Gloria J. Chohany, 64, of S. Main Street, Lewistown, died Saturday, May 29, 1999 at home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1935 at Duncannon to the late John and Emma (Ferguson) Weaver.
She was employed by Lear Corp., Lewistown.
Surviving are a longtime companion, Carol A. Caldwell of Lewistown; two sons, Stephen D. Chohany Jr. of Duncannon and Michael K. Chohany of Trappe; one sister, Arlene Maneval of New Bloomfield; and four grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Weaver, and two sisters, Betty Little and Pearl Miller.
A service was held June 1 at her home. Burial was at the convenience of the family.
Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Lewistown, handled arrangements.

DAVID C. CHRISTIE
David C. Christie, 38, of Centre Road, Newport, died Monday, June 28, 1999 as the result of a traffic accident in Buffalo Twp.
He was born April 24, 1961 in Harrisburg.
He was an employee of Hawkeye Fleet Services, Plainfield; a former employee of Hempt Bros. Inc., Camp Hill; a coach in the Newport Little League Baseball Association; attended Bucks United Methodist Church; a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society of Harrisburg Area Community College, the Oriental Sportsmen's Club and Teamsters Local 776, Harrisburg; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and car racing.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca L. Christie; a son, Herbert B. Lindsey, at home; his parents, David B. and Judith Christie of New Cumberland; a brother, Craig D. of Lewisberry; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crisp of Camp Hill.
Services were held July 2 in Bucks Church with the Rev. David Arnold officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Twp.
Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.

VIRGINIA L. CHRISTIE
Virginia L. Christie, 95, of W. Main Street, New Bloomfield, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999 at home.
She was born Sept. 28, 1903 in Millerstown to the late Arthur C. and Bertha (Rippman) Landis.
She was a Perry County native, spent her childhood in Cuba and Germany and later also lived in London.
She retired from Smith College, Northhampton, Mass.; was a graduate of St. Mary's School in Virginia; was a member and past president of the Newport Civic Club; and a member of the Church of the Nativity, Newport, and the Newport Women's Club.
She was the widow of Peter St. Clair Christie.
Surviving are two sons, Peter S. of Seattle and Michael A. of Irvine, Calif.; a sister, Mary Landis of Newport; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 18 in her church with the Rev. Canon William T. Warne officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.
Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.
