McALISTERVILLE - Shirley R. Soder, 71, entered into rest Sunday, April 30, 2006, at her residence.

She was born March 10, 1935, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, the daughter of the late Russell Dale and Julia Mae (Varner) Helwig.

She retired as a residential services aide from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Selinsgrove Center.

Shirley is survived by her children, Randall James Soder and Eva, Port Treverton, Laurel Anne Gehers and George Leahy, Thompsontown, Lynne Marie Cookson, Oakford, Timothy Lee Soder and Gail, of Mifflintown, Jeffrey Dale Soder, of Millerstown, Brian Curtis Soder and Heidi and William Joseph Soder and Ginny, all of McAlisterville; two brothers, Samuel Roy Helwig, Thompsontown, and Rodney David Helwig, Millerstown; seven sisters, Gail Barnes, Newport, Glenda Helwig, McClure, Judith Harling, Mifflintown, Nancy Rogers, Lewistown, Roxie Portzline, Mifflintown, Victoria Selvoski, Carlisle, Sharon Lehman, Mifflin; a sister-in-law, Nancy Bordner Helwig, McAlisterville; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the George P. Garman Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant Mills. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald E. Landis. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, RR 2, McAlisterville. Following the committal, a time of fellowship will be held at the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church in Cocolamus. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Betty L. Kipp

MIFFLINTOWN - Betty L. Born July 23, 1936, in Fermanagh Township., Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin B. and Rena (Dysinger) Lauver. Her husband of nearly 52 years, Jay E. Kipp, I, whom she married on Aug. 11, 1954, survives.

She is survived by, three sons, Charles L. Kipp, Newport, John E. Kipp and wife, Lisa, Mifflin, Jay E. Kipp, Il, and wife Deanna, RR 2, Thompsontown; one brother, John A. Lauver, and wife Sandra, HC-67, Mifflin; three sisters, Dr. Ruth A. “Chip” Lauver, Wayne, Mary E. “Tink” Scharf, Wilmington, DE, Barbara K. Vanalman, and husband Wilbur, Thompsontown, and four grandchildren, Jason D. Kipp, Ashley R. Kipp, Adam C, Kipp and Marissa J. Kipp.

She was a 1954 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown.

She was a member of the Port Royal United Methodist Church, Port Royal, where she served on the Board of the Church and was a member of the Womens’ Assoc., member and former Regent of Gen. Thomas Mifflin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, had served as Treasurer of the Juniata Co. Historical Society, member and Secretary of Union Cemetery Board, RR 4, Mifflintown, served as the Juniata Co. Jury Commissioner for 25 years, a member of the Juniata Co. Democratic Board and the Juniata Co. Democratic Women.

She was an avid reader, who loved her family and watching her sons play ball and other activities as well as attending all the activities of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling when her health permitted.

She retired with 30 years of service as a secretary/bookkeeper for Manbeck Construction Co., Mifflin.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 5, 2006, at 11 a.m., from the Port Royal United Methodist Church, the corner of Market and Fifth Street, Port Royal, with the Pastor Kenneth R. Kitzmiller officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery, RR 4, Mifflintown.

Viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, at the Church.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Kipp’s memory may be made to the American Heart Assn., 501 Howard Ave., Bldg. D., Suite 101, Altoona, PA 16601 or to American Diabetes Assn., 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Fenton R. Strauser

McVEYTOWN - Fenton R. Strauser, 87, of Big Greenbriar Road, McVeytown, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at his home.

Born May 8, 1918, in Granville, he was a son of the late Robert and Ada (Hanawalt) Strauser.

The last of his immediate family, he was preceded in Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">death by a brother, Theodore Strauser, and two sisters, Nancy and Sarah Strauser.

Surviving are cousins and many friends.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Africa.

A lifelong farmer, he was also employed at Standard Steel for 37 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association, and he was an avid hunter, fisherman and baseball fan.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Dean Walruth officiating. Interment will be in Newton Hamilton Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Doris M. Craig Reigle

WATERLOO, N.Y. - Doris M. Craig Reigle, 74, formerly of 4 Fayette St., Waterloo, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">passed away peacefully at the Huntington Living Center Sunday, April 30, 2006.

Born in Waterloo, N.Y., she was the daughter of Leslie and Inez Mosher Craig. She graduated from Waterloo High School in 1951. Doris and William H. Reigle were married July 4, 1952, and celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this past year. Doris was a homemaker and enjoyed her crafts, such as sewing, pillows, dolls and stuffed animals. She loved and enjoyed all of the children. She was a member of the Living Hope Assembly Church in Waterloo.

She is survived by her husband, William H. Reigle; two sons, Pastor Ralph (Sonia) Reigle, of Ovid, Pastor William (Annette) Reigle II, of Phelps; daughters, Ruth (James) Reed, Pennsylvania, and Rebecca (Allen) Balch, of Waterloo. She also is survived by 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Wednesday, May 3, 2006, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sanderson-Moore Funeral Home Inc., 32 State St. Seneca Falls. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Reigle’s sons, Pastor Ralph Reigle of Valois Community Church and Pastor William Reigle of Phelps Baptist Church will officiate.

Interment will be Thursday, May 4, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Troxelville Cemetery, Troxelville.

Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Reigle to Alzheimer’s Association of Central New York, Cayuga County Coordinator, E. Genesee St. Rd. Auburn, NY 13021.

George C. Ross Jr.

He is survived by his children, Nancy Williams and husband Clair, Lewistown, Harold Ross and wife Chirstine, Lewistown, Harry Ross and companion Dana Shouey, Lewistown, Harriet Arndt and husband James, Reedsville; brothers and sisters Mary Farleman and husband Harry, Lewistown, Richard Ross and wife Esther, McVeytown, Joseph Ross and wife Betty, Lockes Banks, Rebecca Stine, Lewistown, Nora Clinger, Lewistown, Shirley Ross, Mifflintown, William Ross and wife Jane, Burnham, Joan Sheetz and husband Richard, Milroy, Elsie Woodward and husband Robert, Milroy, Ronald Ross, Belleville, Archie Ross, Lumber City, John Ross and wife Paula, Burnham; also surviving are five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by two brothers, James and Howard Ross and one sister, Janet Powell.

He was employed at Standard Steel, Burnham, as a fireman for 44 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 1940, Lewistown. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and a great Pittsburgh Steeler’s fan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Carl Geissinger officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to the time of service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham. Robert L. ‘Bink’ Gibbons

He was construction worker, for various labor unions and a self-employed farmer.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in the European Theater.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2006, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Rev. Dennis R. Thompson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the East Waterford Cemetery where the Juniata Co. Veterans Council will accord full military Burial honors.

Viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

She enjoyed NASCAR, traveling and spending time with her family.

Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery.

Lynn J. “Bud” McClure Jr.

His funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 2nd, at Barr Funeral Home Inc. 120 Logan St., with the Rev. Mark Brower officiating.

Graveside services will be provided by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.

A viewing will be held one hour before services at the Barr Funeral Home. Interment will be in Church Hill, Reedsville.

A graveside service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Lind Memorial Cemetery with Mr. Melvin L. Messerman officiating. There will be no public viewing.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main Street, Lewistown.
