CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Sarah V. "Sally" Sloan, 87, of Menno Haven Nursing Center, and formerly of McConnellsburg and Zullinger, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the nursing center.

Born Feb. 22, 1913, in Snow Shoe, Pa., she was the daughter of Mary Hipple and Harry Viehdorfer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Sloan, in 1998.

She received nursing training at Philipsburg State Hospital.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church; and a past member of Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro.

She was a member of Fulton County Historical Society; a past member of Fulton County Library Board; and volunteered at Fulton County Medical Center.

She was a Sunday school teacher; a Girl Scout leader; and served on the Waynesboro Recreation Committee.

She is survived by a daughter, Kay Sloan Hanna of Fennville, Mich.; a son, James F. Sloan of Newnan, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church of McConnellsburg. The Rev. Trent Hancock will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in McConnellsburg.

Memorial donations may be made to Fulton County Library, 227 N. First St., McConnellsburg, PA 17233; or a charity of one's choice.

Harry M. Gingrich

DOYLESBURG, Pa. - Harry M. Gingrich, 89, of 21833 Back Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at his home.

Born March 1, 1911, in Boalsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late John Andrew and Ella Mae Segner Gingrich.

He was a 1930 graduate of Harris Township High School in Boalsburg.

He was a chemist at Pennsylvania State University laboratory from 1930 to 1942; was plant manager for Binkley Brothers Quarry in Newport and the quarry in Dry Run, Pa., from 1945 to 1952; and farmed in the Doylesburg area from 1978.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 in the European theater.

He was a member of Concord (Pa.) United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Pennsylvania Farmers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Rissinger Gingrich, whom he married Sept. 4, 1943; a son, Dr. John Andrew Gingrich of Mercersburg, Pa.; three sisters, Mildred Smeltzer of Bellefonte, Pa., Marie Corl of State College, Pa. and Margaret Williams of Boalsburg; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

A memorial service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church. The Rev. Karl R. Herman will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Graveside services will be Monday at 3 p.m. in Boalsburg Cemetery in Boalsburg, Pa. The Rev. Joseph Krabill will officiate. Military services will be conducted by VFW Post 321 of State College.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, c/o Jane Stayer, Treasurer, P.O. Box 634, Concord, PA 17217.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pa.

Mildred M. Fortney

QUINCY, Pa. - Mildred M. Seilhamer Fortney, 82, of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 7680 Anthony Highway in Waynesboro, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the home.

Born June 10, 1917, in Quincy Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry Leslie and Nora Blanche Frey Seilhamer.

Her husband, Harry F. Fortney, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died July 19, 1990. They were married March 17, 1950.

She attended Rock Hill School.

She was a homemaker; had been employed at Waynesboro Knitting Mill and at Knouse Foods in Adams County, Pa.

She was a member of Solomon's United Church of Christ in Chambersburg, Pa.

She is survived by two sisters, Hazel S. Heckman of Chambersburg and Ruby L. Shindle of Greencastle, Pa.; one brother, Chester W. Seilhamer of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora Harrison and Betty L. Bingaman; and two brothers, Norman Seilhamer and infant Harry J. Seilhamer.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Peter W. Emig will officiate. Burial will be in Grindstone Hill Cemetery near Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Solomon's United Church of Christ, 1594 Swamp Fox Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Juanita M. Farner

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Juanita M. Farner, 66, of 5400 Lincoln Way East, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born July 30, 1933, in Huntington, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Sherman and Mabel Potter Vanhoose.

She was a 1951 graduate of Chambersburg High School; and attended nursing school.

She worked as a nurse in the operating and recovery rooms of Chambersburg Hospital, retiring after 32 years.

She attended several United Brethren churches.

She was a member of Women of the Moose Lodge 1128 of Chambersburg; a past deputy grand regent with Women of the Moose and a past member of Admission Board of Moose Heart and Moose Haven; and a member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Chambersburg.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara D. Lehman of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, Barry D. Farner of Summerville, S.C. and Brian D. Farner of Fayetteville; three sisters, Phyllis Jackson of Texas, Nellie Allen of Chambersburg and Ramona Borst of Alaska; a brother, Ronnie VanHoose of Texas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg. The Rev. Dianne B. Salter will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Women of the Moose Lodge 1128 will conduct a service at 8 p.m.

William K. Alexis

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - William K. Alexis, 69, of 6224 Greenbriar Terrace, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Dec. 10, 1930, in Smethport, Pa., he was the son of the late Lawrence and Marion Anderson Alexis.

He was a 1948 graduate of Smethport High School. He graduated from Bryant Stratton Business College and attended Buffalo University.

He was a supervisor at Corning Inc. in Canton, N.Y., retiring in 1987 after 30 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fayetteville.

He was a member of BPO Elks 600 of Chambersburg; Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg; American Legion Burt J. Asper Post 46 of Chambersburg; and Penn National Golf Club of Fayetteville.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam Slocum Alexis, whom he married July 30, 1966; two daughters, Kathryn Brewer of Morrisburg, Ontario and Lynn Alexis Hanford of Bethesda, Md.; a son, Bruce Alexis of St. Leonard, Md.; a sister, Marilyn Elliott of Smethport; five grandchildren; a great-aunt; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 44 E. Main St. in Fayetteville. The Rev. David L. Hefner will officiate.

The family will receive friends Sunday following the memorial service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund, 44 E. Main St., Fayetteville, PA 17222.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
