Mary Ellen R. Smith

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Mary Ellen Rosella Smith, 72, of Barnetts Run Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 15, 1927, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Harry N. and Bessie Middleton Norris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Smith, in 1974.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hancock.

She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Wink of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Barbara Mills of Big Pool, Md., and Elizabeth Bowers of Warfordsburg; three sons, Andrew N. Smith of Herndon, Va., Joseph L. Smith of Hagerstown and McKinley R. Smith of Spring Hill, Fla.; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by seven sisters and seven brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Resley Road in Hancock. The Rev. Timothy Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St. in Hancock and Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Monday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 476, Hancock, MD 21750.

Joseph S. Rowe

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Joseph S. Rowe, 87, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home and formerly of 9035 Gap Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the nursing home.

Born March 21, 1912, in Quincy Township, he was the son of the late John W. and Verna G. Robinson Rowe.

He worked as a machinist from age 16, except during the Depression when he worked at C.C. Camp on Old Forge Road in Waynesboro. He worked for 30 years at Landis Machine Company in Waynesboro, and for a number of years at Chambersburg Engineering Company. Prior to retiring in 1975, he worked for Mack Trucks Company in Hagerstown for 13 1/2 years.

He was a member of Waynesboro Bible Church in Waynesboro, where he was active in the Men's Missionary Group. He also served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Anna B. Ankerbrand Rowe, whom he married June 19, 1931; a daughter, V. Alice Gourley of Waynesboro; three brothers, Robert G. Rowe of Waynesboro, Richard Rowe of Fayetteville, Pa., and Clyde M. Rowe of Smithsburg; a grandson; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Zion Cemetery in Franklin County, Pa. Pastor Robert L. Fitz will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Waynesboro Bible Church, 8216 Stottlemyer Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Fay W. Koontz

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Fay Welsh Koontz, 67, of 315 North 1st St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Harrisburg General Hospital.

Born Jan. 17, 1933, in Crystal Springs, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Chloie O'Dessie DeShong Welsh.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ.

She was a member and past matron of Fulton Chapter 519 Order of the Eastern Star, Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary and McConnellsburg Womens Club.

She is survived by her husband, Ray S. Koontz, whom she married Nov. 13, 1960; a daughter, Renee Brink of Chambersburg, Pa.; three stepdaughters, Jane Smith of Katonah, N.Y., and Lena Fox and Betty Calhoun, both of Bedford, Pa.; a son, Robert Koontz of McConnellsburg; eight sisters, Irene Feight, Goldie Kerlin, Betty Mellott and Florence Fix, all of McConnellsburg, Opel Baker and Helen Keefer, both of Mercersburg, Alice Mellott of Needmore, Pa., and Sue Yeager of Hustontown, Pa.; a brother, David H. Welsh of McConnellsburg; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Richard Koontz; a sister, Amy L. Drenning; and a brother, James A. Welsh.

Services will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at McConnellsburg High School Auditorium. The Rev. Barron Barley, the Rev. E. Loy Garber and the Rev. H. Lyle Duffey will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, N. Second St. in McConnellsburg. The Fulton Chapter 519 Order of the Easter Star will conduct a memorial service Monday at 8:30 p.m. at the church. For the convenience of friends, the church will be open from 2 to 9 p.m.

The family also will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the high school.

Visitation also will be Tuesday from 11 to 2 p.m. at Kelso-Corneilus Fuenral Home, 322 N. Second St. in McConnellsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ Women, N. Second St., McConnellsburg, PA 17233; or American Heart Association, Franklin/Fulton Division, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Arthur G. Hornbaker

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Arthur G. "Hornie" Hornbaker, 73, of 240 Linden Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Jan. 23, 1927, near Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Joseph and Eva Mellott Hornbaker.

He was a self-employed truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Jean M. Walker Hornbaker, whom he married in 1949; a daughter, Peggy L. McFadden of Mercersburg; two half sisters, Martha Myles of Mercersburg and Helen Perdrosa of Philadelphia; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Revs. Phyllis J. Martin and Willis I. Murray will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Punch Bowl Road, Mercersburg.

Viewing will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, Franklin County Unit, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

George W. Bollinger

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - George W. Bollinger, 85, of Penn Hall, and formerly of 4480 McKenzie Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Penn Hall Nursing Center in Chambersburg.

Born Sept. 10, 1914, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward and Sarah J. Bumbaugh Bollinger.

He was a 1931 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He had been employed by ELM Grocery Store on Wheels in Kauffman Station, Pa. He owned and operated George W. Bollinger Home Improvements in Chambersburg from 1958 until he retired in 1972.

He was a member of Pond Bank Mennonite Church in Chambersburg, was a former Sunday school teacher and song leader.

He served on the board of directors of Menno-Haven Inc. He was involved with the local Bible Release Program.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice E. Shank Bollinger, whom he married June 10, 1937; two daughters, Lucille Yoder of Fair Play, S.C., and Vera Wadel of Shippensburg, Pa.; three sons, Robert S. Bollinger of Waynesboro, Glenn R. Bollinger of Chambersburg and Elwood C. Bollinger of Fayetteville, Pa.; a sister, Louise Daywalt of Mont Alto, Pa.; two brothers, Joseph Bollinger of Chambersburg and Paul Bollinger of Harrisonburg, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard Bollinger, James Bollinger, Edward Bollinger and an infant.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Marion Mennonite Church, 4365 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg. The Revs. Marlin Ebersole, Merle Cordell, Menno Sollenberger and Robert Keener will officiate. Burial will be in Marion Mennonite Church Cemetery in Chambersburg.

Friends will be received today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Thomas Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg; and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Penn Hall, 1425 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to Pond Bank Mennonite Church Building Fund, 4169 New Franklin Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
