SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Irene F. Verdier, 96, of 10058 South Mountain Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at South Mountain Restoration Center in South Mountain.

Born Oct. 22, 1903, in Lebanon, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Amelia Weber Long.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Verdier, in 1968. They were married in 1923.

She was a 1921 graduate of Quincy High School.

She was employed by Pennsylvania Forestry School, now Mont Alto Campus of Pennsylvania State University, where she worked in the dietary department. Later, she worked at Waynesboro (Pa.) Shoe Factory.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. Bumbaugh of Mont Alto, Pa., and Suzanne Burcker of Hagerstown; a son, J. Calvin Verdier of Mont Alto; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas D. Verdier, and two sisters, Blanche Brechbiel and Louella Long.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at South Mountain Restoration Center, 10058 South Mountain Road, South Mountain. The Revs. Richard Stuemple, Robert D. Flory and Joseph C. Carolin will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mont Alto.

The family will receive friends Monday at 9 a.m. at the restoration center.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Catherine S. Burns

QUINCY VILLAGE, Pa. - Services for Catherine "Kitty" Steeves Burns, 80, of Quincy Village, and formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., who Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, will be Sunday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. at Berkeley Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church, U.S. 522 South, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Frank Bondurant will officiate.

Private burial will be in Duckwall Church Cemetery in Morgan County, W.Va.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.

Joyce B. Allen

MANSFIELD, Pa. - Joyce B. Allen, 73, of Mansfield, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000.

Born July 20, 1926, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Ethel Gilbert Browning of Waynesboro and the late Ruthven Browning.

She was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and Central Pennsylvania Business College in Harrisburg, Pa.

She worked as a clerk-stenographer for the Federal Trade Commission.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 48 years, Charles R. Allen; three sons, the Rev. Jeffrey Allen of Elmer, N.J., Greg Allen of Fort Collins, Colo., and Curtis Allen of Neptune, N.J.; a sister, Jean Miller of Hagerstown; a brother, Ed Browning of Ogden, Utah; grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Greenhill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

Arrangements are by Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Wellsboro, Pa.

Mary L. Keefer

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Mary Louise Keefer, 70, of 1745 Back Run Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg.

Born Aug. 24, 1929, in Needmore, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ada Sipes Mellott.

She worked at Stanley in Chambersburg, Pa., for three years, and retired from Sagner Inc. in McConnellsburg after 20 years of service.

She was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore.

She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary of McConnellsburg.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer R. Keefer, whom she married Dec. 6, 1951; and two sisters, Sarah Ruthford and Mildred Kearns, both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Mellott, Dale Mellott and Verl Mellott.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Sipes Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Pa. Pastor William Swope will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in McConnellsburg.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elmer J. Niswander

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Elmer Jacob Niswander, 92, of 8167 Diehl's Wood Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at his home.

Born Aug. 28, 1907, in Welsh Run, Pa., he was the son of the late David M. and Sadie Wingert Niswander.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of Old Order River Brethren Church.

He is survived by his second wife, Ruth Wenger, whom he married in 1948; four daughters, Jane Meyers of Lemasters, Pa., Faye Mowen of Welsh Run, Grace Bricker of St. Thomas and Ruby Myers of Greencastle, Pa.; a son, Dale Niswander of St. Thomas; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Gayman and Rhoda Miller.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Assembly of God Church, St. Thomas. The Rev. Eldon Heckman and the Rev. Joseph Conley will officiate. Burial will be in Brechbill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 L.W.W., St. Thomas, Pa., and at the church Tuesday, one hour prior to services. The funeral home will be open Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

W. Ralph Carbaugh

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - W. Ralph Carbaugh, 93, of 4625 Cito Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Oct. 4, 1906, in Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of the late Henry and Phoebe Paylor Carbaugh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Everetts Carbaugh.

He was a retired self-employed milk hauler.

He was a member of Cito United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Milk Haulers Association.

He is survived by a stepson, Melvin Everetts Sr. of McConnellsburg; a sister, Frances Helman of Cearfoss; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Thesta McQuade, Helen Mills and Hazel Mills; and two brothers, Donald Carbaugh and Lloyd Carbaugh.

Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Cito United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St. in McConnellsburg; and Sunday at noon at the church. The funeral home will be open Saturday from 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cito United Methodist Church, Building Fund, c/o Ronald Richards, P.O. Box 696, McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
