Born March 22, 1943, on Blue Spring Road, Montgomery Township, Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Bruce H. and Helen Beck Garland.

She was a 1961 graduate of James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg and a 1962 graduate of Hagerstown Business College.

From 1962 to 1967 she was employed as a secretary for Tuscarora School District. For the past 30 years she served as secretary, office manager and treasurer of United Methodist Parish including First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg and Charlestown United Methodist Church of Cove Gap, Pa.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg and a former president and secretary of United Methodist Women.

She was former president and secretary of Mercersburg's Women's Club.

She is survived by her husband, David L. Carbaugh, whom she married Aug. 11, 1963; two daughters, Carol A. Zeger of Mercersburg and Marianne E. Talhelm of Chambersburg; four sisters, Thelma Shelly and Clara Marie Smith, both of Mercersburg, Mary Jane Mellott of Fort Loudon, Pa., and Darlene Mentzer of Baldwin, Md.; one brother, Harold E. Garland of Mercersburg and two grandsons.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Samuel L. Sheffler and the Rev. Joseph Donovan will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg and Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Building Funds of First United Methodist Church, 11 N. Fayette St., Mercersburg, PA or to Charlestown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 185, Mercersburg, PA 17236.

Catherine A. Watson

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Catherine A. Gossert Watson, 75, of 13377 Pennersville Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa.

Born Sept. 4, 1924, in Blue Ridge Summit, she was the daughter of the late Orland E. and Mary V. Eyler Gossert.

She had worked as a nurse's aide at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pa.

She was a member of Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church.

She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ray W. Watson; four daughters, Cinda R. Geerling of LaGange, Ga., Mary A. Brown and Mellissa S. Watson, both of Blue Ridge Summit and Kathy E. Brenneman of Boonsboro; four sons, Harry J. Watson of Waynesboro, Clair W. Watson, Randolph W. Watson and Michael L. Watson, all of Blue Ridge Summit; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Denna K. Fisher; a granddaughter, Deborah A. Richards; two sisters; and a brother.

Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. in Waynesboro. The Rev. Eugene M. Cline will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery in Cascade, Md.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Virginia B. Mock

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Virginia B. Mock, 92, a resident of Manor Care Health Services and formerly of 117 E. Liberty St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Manor Care.

Born Nov. 21, 1907, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Cora Hunt Birkitt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack W. Mock, in 1959. They were married in 1928.

She was a graduate of Charles Town High School.

She retired as house matron of Scotland School for Veterans' Children in Scotland, Pa.

She was a member of Chambersburg Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Ruby Birkitt Bond of Boonsboro and Isabelle Birkitt Virts of Hagerstown; three brothers, John Birkitt, Ralph Birkitt and Everett Birkitt, all of Charles Town; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara I. Mock, and two sons, infant Jack Willard Mock and Donald G. Mock.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg. The Rev. Jimmie E. Knox will officiate.

Visitation will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chambersburg Baptist Church, 588 S. Second St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Vera M. Ommert

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Vera M. Ommert, 84, of 47 Williamson Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 18, 1915, in St. Thomas Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Philip O. and Fannie Statler Crider.

She was a 1933 graduate of Waynesboro High School in Waynesboro, Pa., and attended Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, Pa.

She did secretarial and bookkeeping work at Landis Machine of Waynesboro. Later, she worked at Newman Book Store in Westminster, Md., and most recently she worked at Western Maryland College in Westminster.

She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ of Greencastle and St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Westminster.

She was a member of Greencastle-Antrim Women's Fellowship, Greencastle-Antrim Senior Women's Club; Greencastle Loyal Daughters, and National AARP.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, J. Hoke Ommert; a daughter, Cindy L. Trostle of Greencastle; a son, John R. Ommert of Greencastle; a stepbrother, Joseph M. Crider of Flagstaff, Arizona; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Mae Minnich Crider, and a great-grandson, Matthew Ryan Ommert.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St. in Greencastle. Pastor Mary C. Wehr will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ethel R. Meyers

CARLISLE, Pa. - Ethel R. Meyers, 86, of Thornwald Nursing Home, and formerly of Lemasters, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Thornwald Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 10, 1913, near Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Emmert R. and Carrie Stahl Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Meyers, in 1981.

She worked as bookkeeper for her husband's business, Roy E. Meyers and Son Custom Feed Grinding of Lemasters, Pa.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Lemasters, and United Church Women.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan M. Besecker of Greencastle, Pa., and Janet M. Zimmerman of Williamson, Pa.; a son, Edward L. Meyers of Mercersburg; a sister, Mabel V. Walker of Carlisle; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandson.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Lemasters. The Rev. Douglas N. Hodges will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.

Visitation will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.

David F. Brindle

HALIFAX, Pa. - David F. Brindle, 51, of 73 Rupp Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Harrisburg Hospital in Dauphin, Pa.

Born Feb. 5, 1948, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of John N. Brindle of Chambersburg and the late Phyllis Brindle.

He was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University.

He worked as a draftsman for Pennsylvania DOT in Harrisburg, Pa.

He was a member of Word of Life Chapel in Halifax.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Deborah A. Golden Brindle; a daughter, Charlene E. Brindle of Halifax; and a son, Mark D. Brindle of Halifax.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Word of Life Chapel in Halifax. Burial will be in Long's Cemetery in Halifax.

Visitation will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Word of Life Chapel, 27 Fellowship Drive, Halifax, PA 17032.

Arrangements are by Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg, Pa.
