CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Catherine A. Born Sept. 26, 1958, in Danville, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Laura Jane Ulrich Rudy of Danville.

She had been employed at Ingram's Books in Chambersburg.

She was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Albert J. Schmid; two sons. Chris Houseknecht of Danville and Albert A. Schmid at home; three sisters, Marianne Swauger of Liverpool, Pa., Becky Hastings of Virginia and Margaret Bradshaw of Texas; and three brothers, John Rudy Jr., of Stillwater, Pa., Mike Rudy of Exchange, Pa., and Joseph Rudy of Lititz, Pa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The Rev. Daniel F. Lawler, S.J. will celebrant. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Margaret A. Snyder

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret Anna Smith Snyder, 66, of Mercersburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa. of acute leukemia.

Born Aug. 30, 1932, in Cearfoss, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Hazel Parrott Smith.

She attended school in Washington County.

She was employed at Antrim House, Greencastle, Pa., as a waitress for more than 20 years and for People's Drug Stores, Hagerstown, for more than 27 years.

She was a member of First Brethren Church, Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband, George W. Snyder, whom she married in 1952; one daughter, Pamela Snyder Rudisill of Hagerstown; one son, William B. Snyder of Mercersburg; four sisters, Betty Calandrelle of Boonsboro, Norma Jean Heiston of West Virginia, Nancy Keller of Smithsburg, and Irene Smith of Fairplay; one brother, Robert Smith of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Swope and Ella Mae Draper.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ann V. Atkins will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742 or American Cancer Society Hope Lodge of Central Pennsylvania, 127 Lucy Avenue, Hummelstown, PA 17036.

Max W. Shearer

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Max W. "Abe" Shearer, 79, of 7274 Slabtown Road, Waynesboro, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Quincy United Methodist Home.

Born Nov. 30, 1919, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late William H. and Lena Hoffman Shearer.

In his early life, he worked as a farmer in the Mont Alto, Pa. area. He later worked for 25 years in the foundry at Frick Company, Waynesboro.

He was a long time member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Association.

He loved hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene L. Kauffman Shearer, whom he married March 25, 1944; a daughter, Norma J. Umbrell of Shippensburg, Pa.; a son, Max O. Shearer of Waynesboro; a sister, Lena Jones of Chambersburg, Pa.; a brother, Arthur Shearer of Mont Alto; two grandsons; nieces; nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clark Shearer, in 1985.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor George S. Mouer will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Roy B. McCracken

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Roy Bryson "Did" McCracken, of 15331 Norwood Ave., and formerly of Washington, D.C., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Western Maryland Medical Center, Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 1, 1921, in Haywood, N.C., he was the son of the late Howell G. and Voy Medford McCracken.

He had been employed as a farmer and as a maintenance engineer for an apartment complex.

He served as a sergeant in U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a member of Ninevah Baptist Church, Waynesville, N.C.

He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Simpson of Blue Ridge Summit; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Crawford; and two brothers, Wayne B. McCracken and Joe B. McCracken.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Ninevah Baptist Church of Waynesville. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesville.

Visitation will be today from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Lochstampfor Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pa.

Claude E. Twiddy

HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - Claude Elmer Twiddy, 79, of North Clear Ridge Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at his home.

Born June 20, 1920, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel Johnson Twiddy.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He preceded in death by a brother, Richard Twiddy.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home in Hustontown. Burial will be in Hustontown Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Velva C. Gayman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Velva C. Gayman, 85, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of 6002 Cumberland Highway, Chambersburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Waynesboro (Pa.) She was a 1932 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Chambersburg, and served as a pianist for Children's Church.

She also was a member of AARP.

She is survived by a son, Ronald D. Gayman Sr. of Chambersburg; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Fraker; a sister, Mary Strock; and a brother, Melvin Hargleroad.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 400 Miller St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Elmer T. Kipe will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
