Mary L. Moore

WARMINSTER, Pa. - Mary Louise Newcomer Moore, 102, of Warminster, and formerly of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, July 5, 1999, at her home.

Born Aug. 4, 1896, in Evart, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Rev. John C. and Celeste Brackett Newcomer.

She was in the first graduating class of Harpers Ferry High School, in 1915. She was a graduate of Bates College; and earned her master's degree from Columbia University.

She retired as a social worker from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare after 34 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty L. Snyder of Warminster; three grandchildren, Elise Natali, Gregory Schiller and Timothy Schiller; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel Newcomer, Lionel Newcomer and John Newcomer.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bolivar United Methodist Church, Bolivar, W.Va. The Rev. Jim Hamrick will officiate. Burial will be in Harper Cemetery, Harpers Ferry.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

Robert C. Wingert

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert C. Wingert, 83, of Keystone Avenue, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at his home.

Born Sept. 15, 1915, in Fayetteville, Pa., he was the son of the late Erle L. and Margaret Chapman Wingert.

He was a 1933 graduate of Chambersburg High School. He graduated from the Life Insurance Underwriters School at Penn State University, State College, Pa.

He retired in 1981 as a field manager for Baltimore Life Insurance after 35 years.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.

He was a member of George Washington Lodge No. 143 F & AM; Charles M. Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 VFW; and Chambersburg Club, all in Chambersburg; and Detrich-Brechbill Post No. 612 American Legion in St. Thomas, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Spangler Wingert, whom he married Sept. 29, 1945; a daughter, Susan A. Wingert of Chambersburg; a son, Robert C. Wingert Jr. of Gettysburg, Pa.; two granddaughters and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a sister, K. Elizabeth Wingert; and a brother, Eric L. Wingert.

Services and burial will be private in Lincoln Cemetery, with military services by Charles M. Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 VFW Honor Guard.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Dwight A. Huseman will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

James R. Black

MARTINSBURG, Pa. - James Robert "Bob" Black, 80, of Morrison's Cove Home, and formerly of Robertsdale, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at the home.

Born Dec. 2, 1918, in Dublin Mills, Pa., he was the son of the late Abner and Sally O'Neal Black.

He attended Oak Grove School in Waterfall, Pa.; and Saltillo High School.

He retired after 43 years with the U.S. Steel Co. at Carrie Furnace in Pittsburgh.

He was a member of Robertsdale Church of God.

He was a member of United Steelworkers of America; and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Plantena "Teany" Chilcote Black, whom he married Feb. 13, 1940; two sisters, Ruth Houck of New Grenada, Pa., and Hazel Cutchall of McConnellsburg, Pa.; two brothers, Cloyd Black of New Grenada and Merrill Black of Chambersburg, Pa.; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a son, James M. Black in 1981; and two brothers, Delbert Black and Willis Black.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Robertsdale Church of God, Robertsdale. The Rev. Donald Simmons will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, New Grenada.

Friends may call at the chruch today from 7 to 9 p.m.; and Friday from noon to 2 p.m.

Arrangements are by M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa.

John C. Sigler Jr.

Services for John C. "Herman" Sigler Jr., 54, of 241 S. Lillie V. Butler

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Lillie V. Born Nov. 11, 1906, in Foreman, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George and Agnes Parker Miller.

She retired in 1975 from the laundry department of South Mountain Restoration Center after 20 years.

She was a member of New Baltimore Church of God, South Mountain.

She is survived by her husband, William J. Butler, whom she married in 1938; five daughters, Mildred Shaffer of Pond Bank, Pa., Viola Miller of Palm Bay, Fla., Carrie Kauffman of South Mountain and Catherine Bakner, both of South Mountain, and Vera Bakner of Mont Alto, Pa.; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Mervin J. Shaffer and Kenneth W. Wagaman; three sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Melvin J. Flickinger

QUINCY, Pa. - Melvin J. Flickinger, 90, of Quincy United Methodist Home and formerly of 358 Geiser Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Dec. 30, 1908, he was the son of the late John I. and Annie Kate Wentz Flickinger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Leppo Flickinger, in 1987. They were married in 1928.

He had been employed with a furniture manufacturer. He directed the Quincy Orphanage and Mercersburg American Legion bands. He was employed at Grossnickel Garage, Mercersburg, as a bookkeeper; and at Frey Stone and Coal Co. until his retirement in the late 1970s.

He was a member of Otterbein United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.

He was a member of Pennsylvania Band Masters Association.

He is survived by a daughter, Esther L. Snively of Waynesboro; a sister, Eva Hanson of New Oxford, Pa.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Timothy Dunkerton.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Michael Newman will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, Pa.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family requests omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, 801 Park St., Waynesboro, PA 17268; or to Quincy United Methodist Home Benevolent Fund, P.O. Box 128, Quincy, PA 17247.
