Lester P. Wachter

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Lester P. "Bud" Wachter, 86, of 217 Harrison Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at his home.

Born Aug. 14, 1912, in Sabillasville, Md., he was the son of the late G. Roscoe and Hattie E. Pryor Wachter.

His wife, Thelma G. Gordon Wachter, preceded him in death. They were married in June 1945.

He was employed by Landis Machine Co. for 41 years, working in the foundry for a number of years. Prior to retiring in 1977, he was an expeditor in the production department.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was held as a prisoner of war in France.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Waynesboro.

He also was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 731, Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, all of Waynesboro, Waynesboro Fish and Game Association, South Mountain Fish and Game Association, Rouzerville Hunting Club of South Mountain, National Rifle Association, and National AARP.

He is survived by one son, Robert G. Wachter of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Josephine Jackowski of Philadelphia; one granddaughter, Kourtney C. Wachter of Gainesville, Fla.; and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Kenneth Wachter.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Jay E. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Pauline E. Weller

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pauline E. "Polly" Weller, 71, of 1818 Scotland Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa.

Born Aug. 4, 1927, in Fayetteville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Myrtle Hamsher Welker.

She was a 1944 graduate of Chambersburg High School, Chambersburg.

She was a telephone operator with United Telephone of Chambersburg. She was then employed as a telephone operator at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg; and was last employed at New Cumberland Army Depot, New Cumberland, Pa.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fayetteville.

She was a member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Chambersburg.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon P. "Bucky" Weller Jr., whom she married Feb. 4, 1950; two sons, Terry L. Weller and Tommy R. Weller, both of Chambersburg; four sisters, Ruth Rensch, Jean Robinson and Margaret Schuchman, all of Chambersburg and Dorothy Shone of North Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by two sisters; and two brothers.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 44 E. Main St., Fayetteville. The Rev. David L. Hefner will officiate. Burial will be private.

There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 44 E. Main St., Fayetteville, PA 17222.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

Warren M. Grissinger

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Warren Marshall Grissinger, 76, a resident of Shippensburg Health Care Center, Shippensburg, and formerly of Hustontown, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.

Born Aug. 21, 1922, in Clay Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late John R. and Rhoda Black Grissinger.

He worked at carpentry and masonry.

He attended Evangel Assembly of God, McConnellsburg, Pa.

He was a member of Blair County Rod and Gun Club, Potter County, Carpenter's Union Local 2274, Pittsburgh, Fort Chambers Local Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Kesselring Grissinger, whom he married in 1956; one son, Todd W. Grissinger of Mercersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Norma Gale Anderson of Waterfall, Pa., and Freda Rowles of RD, Robertsdale, Pa; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Ruth Grissinger.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. The Rev. Belvy C. White will officiate. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery, RD, Three Springs, Pa.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Rev. S. Fred Christman

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - The Rev. S. Fred Christman, 90, a resident of Piney Mountain, Fayetteville, and formerly of 6361 Chambersburg Road, Fayetteville, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, March 14,, at Piney Mountain.

Born June 17, 1908, in St. Thomas Township, Pa., he was the son of the late D.F. and Mary Ann Brubaker Christman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys V. Rotz Christman.

He was a 1927 graduate of Chambersburg High School, a 1931 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pa., and a 1938 graduate of Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary, Gettysburg, Pa. He later received a Doctor of Divinity from Lebanon Valley College in 1953.

During his first 22 years in the ministry of the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, he served in Biglerville, Newburg, and New Cumberland. He then served as a U.S. Army chaplain for two years. Following his military service he was assigned to Chambersburg First Church for several years. He then went on to serve as administrator of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa. He retired in 1971.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.

He served numerous organization and boards in a variety of capacities at local, conference, and general levels in the United Brethren, Evangelical United Brethren, and United Methodist denominations successively, including the General Board of Home and Hospitals of the United Methodist Church following the church merger.

He is survived by one son, Fred N. Christman of Costa Rica; and one sister, Margaret C. Hoover of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second Street, Chambersburg. The Rev. Donald C. Nolder will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.

Retha V. Rotz

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Retha V. Born Jan. 11, 1909, in Rest, Va., she was the daughter of the late James W. and Susan G. Nary Ewan.

She was a homemaker.

She won a large monetary prize for solving the "Little Jester" crossword puzzle in the Philadelphia Inquirer in 1957.

She is survived by one daughter, Susanne Davis of Chadds Ford, Pa.; one son, Clifford Rotz, Jr. MD of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Mildred Shade of Menno Haven, Marie McLaughlin of Chambersburg, Pa., and Mary Ellen Martin of Colonial Heights, Va.; four grandchildren and four great-grand children.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and eight brothers.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester R. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to King Street United Brethren Church, 172 East King Street, Chambersburg, PA. 17201.
