CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Leila Mae McKenzie Besore, 88, a resident of Shook Home in Chambersburg, formerly of 9338 Meadowbrook Drive, Waynesboro, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at the nursing home.

Born May 20, 1910, in Culbertson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Hiram Small and Sarah Martha Shields McKenzie.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Carl V. Besore, in 1997.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School and nursing school. She completed her nurse's training at Chambersburg Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was employed as an operating room nurse at Waynesboro Hospital for many years.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.

She is survived by one sister, Jane Trimble of Allentown, Pa.; one brother, Paul F. McKenzie of Arnold, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. Stuart Troutman will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library endowment fund, 45 E. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268 or Salem United Church of Christ, 4881 Salem Church Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Mary C. Davis

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Mary C. Davis, 62, of 9765 Browns Mill Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 21, 1936, in Letterkenny Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Cyrus C. and Cora Lininger Crider.

She was a 1955 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She was a homemaker. Earlier in her life she worked at the Ford Garage and the former Kulp's Stationery Store, both, in Chambersburg, Pa.

She was an active member of King Street United Brethren Church of Chambersburg, where she was a member of New Life Sunday School Class and where she had taught Reflections, New Disciples and New Life Sunday School Classes. She and her husband were members of Shepherd Ministry of the church.

She was a member and past president of Greencastle-Antrim Women's Fellowship.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, John L. "Jack" Davis; one daughter, Kathy Knoll of Greencastle; two sons, Michael L. Davis of Hagerstown and John A. Davis of Waynesboro, Pa.; four sisters, Dorothy Bittinger, Olive Sollenberger, Mabel Lockwood and Naomi Mull, all of Chambersburg; three brothers, Paul N. Crider and Glenn D. Crider, both of Chambersburg and Charles T. Crider or Orrstown, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Fahnstock; one brother, John Crider; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at King Street United Brethren Church, 172 E. King St., in Chambersburg. Pastors Patrick Jones and Lester Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., in Greencastle and Monday, one hour prior to services, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd Ministry of the King Street United Brethren Church, 172 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Mary V. Beeler

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Mary V. Souders Beeler, 63, of 5500 Lincoln Way East, Shaff's Mobile Home Park, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at her home.

Born March 18, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Earl D. and Edna Pearl Jenkins Souders.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel O. Beeler, in 1992.

She attended Strawberry Ridge School in Fulton County, Pa.

She was employed by Lowangard Co. in Mercersburg, Pa., and by Sagner's Clothing Manufacturing in McConnellsburg, Pa. for 20 years.

She was a member of Conococheague Grace Brethren Church in Greencastle, Pa.

She is survived by two stepdaughters, Candous J. Cohick of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Denise M. Wolff of Nashville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Jody L. Beeler Sr. of Fort Loudon, Pa., and Arnold E. Beeler of Chambersburg, Pa.; three sisters, Eva C. Stoner of Greencastle, Myrtle A. Seville of Chambersburg and Helen D. House of Elizabethtown, Pa.; a brother, Joseph L. Souders of Dallas, Pa.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro, Pa. The Rev. Alan N. Clingan will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Benevolent Fund of Quincy United Methodist Home, P.O. Box 128, Quincy, Pa. 17247.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Preston E. Flohr

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Preston E. Flohr, 72, of 15571 Orchard Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died of a heart attack Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in the emergency room of Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Sept. 22, 1926, in Blue Ridge Summit, he was the son of the late John S. and Anna Catherine Keagy Flohr.

He was a 1934 graduate of Smithsburg High School. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1949 with a degree in accounting.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He spent the past 38 years working for and running the family business, Flohr's Lumber in Blue Ridge Summit.

He was a member of Church of the Transfiguration Episcopal Church, Blue Ridge Summit.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 and BPO Elks Lodge 731, both of Waynesboro; National AARP; Waynesboro Country Club and Waynesboro YMCA. He was on the board of directors of First National Bank of Waynesboro.

He is survived by his wife of more than 45 years, Edna F. Kipe Flohr; two daughters, Lynn A. Muller of Blue Ridge Summit and Leslie E. Knepper of South Mountain, Pa.; two grandsons; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Conway Flohr.

Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. Daphne S. Killhour will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Church of the Transfiguration Episcopal Church Altar Guild, P.O. Box B, Blue Ridge Summit, PA 17214.

Robert L. Sowers

Born Jan. 7, 1943, in Needmore, Pa., he was the son of Hazel Barnhart Sowers of Everett and the late Clarence Reed.

He was a mason and a heavy-equipment operator.

He was a Protestant.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by four daughters, Rebecca Sowers, Teresa Sowers and Crystal Sowers, all of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Bonnie Sowers of Greencastle, Pa.; five sisters, Alice College of Everett, Linda DeShong and Alma Ashley, both of McConnellsburg, Barbara Sipes of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Joyce Manetti of Needmore; three brothers, Donald Sowers of McConnellsburg, Denny Sowers of Chambersburg, Pa., and Roger Sowers of Everett; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Adams; and a brother, Kenneth Sowers.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Pa. Pastor William Swope will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, Needmore.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; and Saturday at 1 p.m.
