Survived by these children: Mary Louise Gallagher, Atlanta; Leonard, married to the former Carol Strapple; Loretta, wife of David Blough; and David, married to the former Christine Mahler, all of Windber; also grandchildren, Lisa, Jacqui, Shawn, David, Christopher, Reine and Paul; and great-grandchildren, Cal, Jacob, Sims and Luke. Sister of Anne Alesandrini, Chardon, Ohio, and sister-in-law of Thressa DiGiulio, Connie and Lillian Turcato, all of Windber. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was retired from the cafeteria department of WAHS. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic church, Windber, where she was past president of the Secular Franciscans and a Eucharistic minister, and where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, TOR Franciscans. Committal, church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Meek -- Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Memorial contributions may be directed toward Regional Hospice at Windber or St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in memory of Mary.

Survived by husband, John Charles Bishop, to whom she was married 49 years; daughters, Mrs. David (Debra Kay) Griffith of Gathersburg, Md.; Mrs. Terry (Pam) Knepper of Somerset; and Mrs. Tony (Sandra) Pingatore of Adamstown, Md.; grandsons, Chad, Corbin and Ethan Griffith; T.J. and Taylor Knepper; Nick, John and Sam Pingatore; granddaughter, Alex Knepper; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Cline of Largo, Fla.; James Burkett and Kenneth I. Burkett, both of Somerset; Frank S. Burkett Jr., and wife, Barbara, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Ms. Leora Peters of Virginia Beach, Va. She was a 1956 graduate of Somerset High School. Member of Somerset Alliance Church, where she was part of the Keenagers. She was also a part of the knitting club and she had worked as co-owner/operator of Bishop's Mobile Homes, retiring in 2004, with 40 years of service. Shirley was very active and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Friends received from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Somerset Alliance Church, with services immediately following, with the Rev. James E. Vandervort officiating. Interment, St. John's Cemetery. CHERNICKY - Sedonia "Seda" L., age 83, Portage, entered into a new life on April 30, 2006. Born in Portage on May 23, 1922, she was the daughter of Albert and Anna (Tomajko-Smrek) Chernisky, who immigrated from Imrichfalu, Slovakia, to the Portage area in the early 1900s. Seda was proceeded in death by her parents; sisters, Anna Demko and Mollie Bentkoski; brothers, Albert, John, Joe, Edward and August "Gus." Survivors include the following: sisters-in-law, Marge Chernitsky of Portage, who was her best friend and caregiver, and Helen Chernisky of Reno, Nev. Her nieces and nephews include John Chernitsky, Velma Chippo-Phillips and Delores Scarton of Portage; George Chernisky of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; Cheryl Chernisky of Reno, Nev.; Joylynn McCory of Natchltoches, La.; Wendy Bentkoski of Valencia, Calif.; Donna Bentkoski of Milwaukie, Ore.; and Richard Demko of Erie, Pa.; and many great- and great-great-nephews and nieces. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mark A. Serenko Funeral Home, Portage, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Father Ronald V. Osinski officiating. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Cemetery, Portage.

Born Oct. 25, 1914, in Jenners Township, the daughter of the late James E. and Emma Jane (Berkebile) Keyser. Mrs. Koontz was a member of the Rockwood United Methodist Church. Past member of the Rockwood Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a past member of the Somerset County Fireman's Auxiliary. She was married on March 29, 1942, to Blaine W. Koontz of Rockwood, who passed on April 9, 2006. Surviving are two sons, Donald R. Durst of Windber, and daughter-in-law, Barbara (Anderson), and Blaine E. Koontz of Philipsburg, and daughter-in-law, Deborah (Miller); five grandchildren: James, J.W. and Jason Durst; Jeri (Durst) Galluchi; and Elaine Koontz; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her spouse and parents, six brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Robert Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Ongley officiating. Interment will follow in the Rockwood IOOF Cemetery. She was a member of the Indiana Glass Club and the Indiana BPOE #931 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Leahey was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church. Survived by four children: Michael P. Leahey of Kernerville, N.C.; Dennis P. Leahey, and wife, Von, of Longview, Texas; Michelle A. Leahey of New Cumberland, Pa.; and Lisa M. Vanderberg, and husband, William, of Indiana; two grandchildren, Kristen Jacobs and Carly Leahey; three great-grandchildren: Riley, Zoe and Jensen Jacobs. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard G. Leahey, in 1983; a brother, George Budock. A private family graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
