KARL - Benjamin F. "Blue Eyes," 90, attained final peace at home on May 11, 2007, with his family at his side. He is now with his son, David, who left him much too soon. He was born Nov. 1, 1916, in Johnstown to the late Benjamin F. and Elizabeth G. Karl. Ben was a veteran of World War ll and the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Army after 28 years of service to his country. He then worked at the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission for 15 years, retiring in 1979. Ben enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, making new friends and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Lawnton American Legion Post 998 and the Dillsburg VFW. He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Mary F. (Bittman) Karl. In addition, he is survived by his son, Edward J. Karl, and wife, Carol, Harrisburg; two daughters, Donna L. Shoemaker, and husband, Jack, Mechanicsburg, and Linda M. Johnson, and husband, Gregory of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren, Shannon Karl Gerhards, and husband, Eric; Stephanie Karl Madden, and husband, Chad; Amanda Karl Feaser, and husband, Brad; Justin Shoemaker, and wife, Jessica; Kyle and Ben Shoemaker; and Selina, Adam and Tara Johnson; a brother, Eugene E. Karl, Cleveland; two sisters, Betty L. Thomas, Cleveland, and Dorothy R. Crist, Blairsville; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Viewings will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2007, at the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make memorial contributions to Pinnacle Health Hospice, 3705 Elmwood Drive, Harrisburg, Pa. 17110.

LOUGHRAN - James D.

LOUGHRAN - James D. "Miner Jim," 76, Colver, went to be with the Lord May 12, 2007, at home. Born Dec. 30, 1930, in Nicktown, son of the late Joseph and Agnes Loughran. Preceded in death by wife, Nancy D. (Davis) Loughran. Survived by sisters, Frances, and husband, Wilmer Sherry, and Tessie, and husband, Don Lemanowich; brothers, Anslem, and wife, Cheryl (Volk), and William and wife, Deborah (Lieb); special great-niece, Sabrina Loughran, and numerous nieces and nephews. Member of Ebensburg First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). U.S. Navy veteran, retired from Bethlethem Mines, member of UMWA. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment, Belsano United Methodist Cemetery.

MARTIN - Robert E.

Survived by wife, the former Sara Oldham, to whom he was married 61 years; children, Richard G., married to former Colleen Gladwin, Southlake, Texas; Betsy Goenner and Jacqueline Rummel, and son-in-law, Carl Rummel, all of Johnstown; sister-in-law, Betty Stephey, and niece, Janis Day, Johnstown. Also survived by brother, Richard, and sister, Janet Yost, both of Johnstown; grandchildren, Melissa Martin, Tiffany Sefcik, Shanda Machado, Kelley Sourbeer, Laurie Palasz, Christopher Goenner, Corinne Vickroy and Matthew Rummel; also eight great-grandchildren. Bob was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he participated in the choir and the Open Minds Sunday school class. Owner-operator of the former Moxham Exxon Service Station. World War II veteran. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Allan Brooks. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributons may be made to the Organ Restoration Fund at the First United Methodist Church.

SPRINGER - Alma E.

Springer, on June 27, 1983; sisters, Edna Feighner and Viola Baker; and brothers, Warren, Maurice, Ivo and Oliver Link. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Anne Boslet, and her husband, Paul, and Donna Ropp, and her husband, Jim, all of Carrolltown; and Arlene Farabaugh, and her husband, Don, Nicktown; grandchildren, Debbie Shook, Paulie and Scott Boslet, Cindy Miklos, Andy Ropp, Denny, Sandy, Susie and Dean Farabaugh; great-grandchildren, Destinee Ropp, Anna Marie and Anthony Miklos. She is also survived by brothers, Alvin Link and his wife, Mary, Petersburg, Ind., and Edgar Link, and his wife, Joanne, Carrolltown; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the former owner of Springer Oil Co. in Carrolltown. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Altar Rosary Society and Carrolltown American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, dancing and spending time with her family. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 146 N. Main St., Carrolltown, and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, the Rev. Andre Strittmatter, TOR. Committal, church Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Alma's caregivers and the staff of St. Benedict Manor.

THOMAS - R. Glenn

THOMAS - R. Glenn, 80, Davidsville, went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2007, at Select Specialty Hospital. Born Dec. 24, 1926, in Thomas Mills, son of the late J. Wesley and Bessie (Weaver) Thomas. Preceded in death by son-in-law, Kenneth L. Lambertus; brother, Richard Thomas; and twin sisters, Arlene and Irene Thomas. Survived by wife, Margaret (Thomas), with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage; daughter, Cathy Lambertus, Davidsville; grandson, K.L. Lambertus, married to the former Jodi Hood, Portage; great-grandson, Logan Lambertus; brother, Gerald Thomas, married to Joyce, Thomas Mills; nephew, Doug Thomas, married to Roberta, Soap Hollow; and special friend, Bill Thomas. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. He is a World War II Army veteran, having served in Japan. He enjoyed, hunting, collecting cars, camping, fishing and breeding beagles. Friends received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m., the Rev. Wilma Horner. She is survived by her children, Albert "Whitey" (Jane) White, Bonnie (Ron) Scheithauer, and Richard (Cathy) White, all of Patton; stepchildren, Colleen Garrity, Patton; and David (Shirley) Garrity, Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Agnes is also survived by her brother, William Switzler, Plymouth, Mich., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton; Carrolltown American Legion Auxiliary since 1941, where she was the oldest surviving member; Patton Fire Ladies Auxiliary; and the former president of Patton High School Band Mothers. Agnes enjoyed her family and her grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 1004 N. Fifth Ave., Patton, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton, by Benedictine Fathers.
