Edward W. Strong
ERIE, Pa. - Edward W. Strong, 82, of 1075 Newton Ave., Lawrence Park, died Thursday at the Hamot Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born March 26, 1921, in Erie, the son of late Oscar and Agnes Lamberton Strong.
He is survived by his wife of 25-years, Grace Bretz Strong; five daughters; Judy Fleisher and her husband Ed of Geneva, Joyce Koerner and her husband Jay of Tampa, Fla., Patricia Guglielmo and her husband Charles of Conneaut, OH, Gayle Crotty of Lawrence Park and Kim Strong and her husband Michael Anderson of Harrisburg, Pa.; a brother, Norman Strong of Erie, and two sisters, Thelma Kenny of Andover and Ida Faulkner and her husband Ron of Harborcreek; eleven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; Charles and Harry Strong, and a stepson, Terry Cassady.
Edward Strong was the retired police chief of Lawrence Park Twp. During his 35-year tenure in the police department he organized and ran the Safety Town program and Bicycle Safety program. He was one of the founding members of the Erie County William Tyler Lodge FOP and he last original member to retire. He was a 50-year life member of the Tyrian Lodge No. 362 Free and Accepted Masons, Past Sovereign Prince of the Princes of Jerusalem, past Commander-In-Chief of the Erie Cosistory, recipient of the Meritorious Service Award from the Pa. Council of Liberation, Past King Lion, Past Commander of the American Legion Carl Neff Post No. 571, Past Chairman and Historian of the Erie Chapter of the legion of Honor of Four Chaplains, member of the North East VFW and the Erie County 40 and 8. He was also a member of the Erepa Grotto and the Saga Club. He was the retired Masonic representative to the VA medical center, member of St. Peters Lutheran Church of North East where he served on the church council and building committee and sang in the choir. He was also a US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII.
Friends may call at the G.R. Bailey Funeral Home, 4396 Iroquois Ave., Lawrence Park, 7-9 p.m., Saturday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. A funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, North East, Rev. Kenneth Laber, Rev. Harrison and Rev. Raymond J. Thomas officiating.
Masonic services will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, and Fraternal Order of Police memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Peter Lutheran Church of North East, 1500 Freeport Road North East, 16428, or to Safety Town, care of Lions Club, 2402 Cherry St., Erie Pa., 16502. Interment Erie Cemetery.

Eleanor H. Turner
NORTH SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - Eleanor H. Turner, 94, of Maple Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at The Villa on the Lake, Conneaut.
She was born Feb. 20, 1908, in Stateline, N.Y., to Harley and Wilhelmina (Oaks) Adams. She graduated from the Academy High School, in Erie, in 1927. She marriage Harold W. Turner June 29, 1929.
Mrs. Turner worked at the Boston Store in Erie years ago. Her favorite job was working at the Peggy Gray Candy and Gift Shop in West Springfield, Pa., selling candy and gifts for more than 20 years.
She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Erie and a past Grand Noble for the Edris Dale Rebeckah Lodge. She enjoyed reading, writing poetry and playing Chinese checkers.
Survivors include sons Dale Turner of East Springfield, Pa., Alan Turner of Pierpont, Lane Turner of Geneva, David Turner of West Springfield, Glenn Turner of Conneaut, Ralph Turner and Kent Turner, both of North Springfield; daughters Lois Anthony of Meadville, Pa., and Lora Toddy of Conneaut; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; a grandson, Jeffrey Turner; and a brother, Paul W. Adams.
Service is 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main St., East Springfield, Pa., officiated by the Rev. Robert Brooks, pastor of the Conneaut Wesleyan Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield.
Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Esther P. Johnson
FAIRVIEW, Pa. - Esther P. Johnson, 89, formerly of Harbor Street in Conneaut, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at the Pleasant Ridge Manor West in Fairview, Pa.
She was born Feb. 4, 1912, in Girard, Pa., a daughter of James and Emma Jane (Duffy) Case.
The Case family settled in the Pierpont area in the 1750s and she was proud of her Irish heritage. She spent most of her life in Girard, Pa., and after the death of her second husband, moved to Conneaut.
She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at the Burkes Nursing Home and the former Erie County Geriatric Center (now Pleasant Ridge Manor).
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Conneaut, OH and a former member of the Girard United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed socializing and was known for her Irish wit. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, crafting, quilting, gardening, assisting others and attending Case family reunions and Christmas parties.
Survivors include eight grandchildren, Darla Georgia, Les Parker, Garold Braden Jr., James Braden, Kathy Greenwalt, Kathy Aldrich, Kim Carter and Greg Braden; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Floyd Everden; her second husband, Lee Johnson; a daughter, Rhea Braden; brothers Lawrence, Harold and Gilbert Case; sisters Retta Drury, Bessie Kemling and Dodie Baldwin; and twin siblings Mildred and Milton Case.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. The Rev. Armando Arellano, of East Conneaut United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be noon until the time of service Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Pleasant Ridge Manor West, Hospice of Erie County or Hospice of Ashtabula County. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Harold D. Bowers
SPARTANSBURG, Pa., - Harold Duane Bowers Jr., 64, formerly of Conneaut, OH, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at St. Joseph Health Center in Andover.
He was born Dec. 30, 1938, in Conneaut, the son of Harold D. and Elsie L. (Albee) Bowers.
Mr. Bowers had resided in Spartansburg for the past 13 years and at one time had been employed as a school-bus driver for Conneaut Valley Schools.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing, was an avid Dale Earnhart fan and, in younger years, liked to work on cars.
Mr. Bowers also liked to talk on his citizens band radio and drive his Amish friends around.
Survivors include his wife, Carol L. (Langdon) Bowers, whom he marriage Jan. 19, 1964; two daughters, Teresa of Springboro, Pa., and Roberta of Spartansburg; two sons, Randy of Conneaut, and Dennis, of Spartansburg; a sister, Linda L. Summers of Conneaut; four brothers, Robert E. of Conneaut, Leonard L. of North Kingsville, Perry W. of Pierpont, and Gary L. of Elyria; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dolores Bowers, in infancy, and Shirley Williams; and a daughter, Lisa Jo, in infancy.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday, at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the funeral home.

Dr. John T. Namey Jr.

FARRELL, PA - Dr. John T. Namey Jr., of Roemer Blvd., Farrell, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, September 13, 2007, at his home. He was 57.
Born March 2, 1950, in Sharon, he was a devoted son, brother, father and uncle. A 1968 graduate of Farrell High School, he attended Thiel College in Greenville. He graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia with a degree in chemistry in 1977 and earned his doctorate of osteopathic medicine from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1981. He completed his internship at Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie in 1982. Dr. Namey practiced family medicine in Jefferson, Ohio, and was affiliated with Northeastern Ohio General Hospital in Madison, Ohio, and Memorial Hospital of Geneva in Geneva, Ohio. He formerly served as quality assurance director of the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, medical director at the Ashtabula County Justice Center, team physician at Jefferson Area High School, physician consultant at the Ashtabula County Child and Family Health Service Planning Council and as consultant for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for John Cheryl Inc. in Conneaut, Ohio.
He had been a former member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Ohio Osteopathic Association, the American Academy of Osteopathy, the Ohio College of General Practitioners, the American Academy of Sports Physicians, the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American College of General Practitioners.
Dr. Namey was an Eagle Scout and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his three children, Kathryn Lorena Marie Namey, of Los Angeles; Mary Rose Namey, of Columbus, Ohio; and John T. Namey III of Jefferson, Ohio; a brother, Dr. Thomas C. Namey and his wife Anne, of Knoxville, Tenn.; three sisters, Lorena Namey Carlson, of Athens, Ohio; Marilyn P. Cagna and her husband Ralph, of Parma, Ohio; and Paula B. Booth and her husband, Dr. Hobson G. of Morgantown, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John and Lorena Curtis Namey; a brother, Dr. Mark P. Namey; and a brother-in-law, Dr. William Carlson.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007 at St. Adalbert Church, Fruit Avenue, Farrell, Pa., with the Rev. Charles S. Murcko, a close family friend, officiating. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Farrell.
Friends will be received after the funeral mass on Saturday, September 22, 2007, from 11 to 12:30 p.m. at the A.E. PUSTINGER FUNERAL HOME Ltd., 1310 Idaho St., Farrell, Pa.

Glenn H. Williams

HARBORCREEK, Pa. - Glenn H. Williams Sr., age 84, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at his residence in Harborcreek, following a brief yet brave battle with cancer.
He was born in New Castle, Pa., on Feb. 13, 1923, a son of the late Donald and June Fleeger Williams.
Glenn attended Girard High School, then worked at Marx toys prior to serving in the Philippines during World War II for the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked for the Penn Central and New York Central Railroads before retiring from Conrail in 1986.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making jewelry for his daughters and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepbrother, Richard Williams, and granddaughter, Lisa Marie Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dolores Thompson Williams; his children, Linda Mason and her husband, Thomas, Lenore Fusco and her husband, Gary, Glenn H. Williams Jr. and his wife, Elisabeth, Brenda Williams and her partner, Charles Keller, Barbara Wright and her husband, Skip, Dave Williams and his wife, Cathy, Dawn Hinspeter and her husband, Norman, and Kevin Williams and his fiancé, Amy Garner; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service conducted by the Rev. David Laakso at Faith Lutheran Church at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007.
The family wishes Memorial Contributions be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 5414 E. Lake Road, Erie, Pa. 16511 or to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St., Erie, Pa. 16502.
Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road, Erie, Pa.

James Harmon Bentley
WILLIAMSFIELD, Pa. - James Harmon Bentley, 52, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in Hartstown, Pa.
The son of Vanzel and Opal Garnet (Johnson) Bentley, he was born in Rita, W Va. Aug. 22, 1948.
Mr. Bentley was a self-employed carpenter in Youngstown, and attended the Church of God in Ashtabula.
He is survived by a son Jeremy Bentley of Saudi Arabia; daughter Julie Bentley of Buffalo, N.Y.; four sisters, Brenda Hyde, Hartstown, Pa., Madeline Heiskanen of Cleveland, OH, Phyllis Baker of Ashtabula, OH, Janice Kristoff of Orwell, OH; and two brothers, Harold Bentley of Pierpont and Marvin Bentley of Jefferson, OH.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bob, Paul, Billy Joe, and Carley.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
Randall Brothers Funeral Home, Hartstown, Pa., is in charge of the arrangements.
