Adams, Richard
Clinton Republican
October 14, 1914
Richard Adams, the six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Adams, of East Church street, near Grant street, died in the Lock Haven hospital at 9 o’clock Tuesday evening of this week following an attack of appendicitis.
About three weeks ago this young lad and several of his companions were at play when one of them struck the
Adams boy on the abdomen with a stone. The flesh was bruised and quickly discolored. As a result of the accident
severe pains developed and upon the advice of the family physician the boy was taken to the hospital. Appendicitis
appeared as a result of the injuries to the intestinal tract and an operation was resorted to with a view of saving the
lad’s life. He began to improve readily, but suffered a number of relapses, with the result that death ensued at the
time stated. The boy had just started as a scholar in the First ward building and was a bright lad.
Funeral services will be conducted at the family residence at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon by Rev. A. F. Weaver, pastor of the First United Evangelical church. Interment will be made in Dunnstown Cemetery.

A graduate of the Teachers College, he had also taught school in Castanea and Lockport as a young man.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Woodman of America.

Blesh, Norman M. “Deacon”
March 26, 1959
Yesterday afternon, the West Branch of the Susquehanna River yielded up, after 46 days, the body of 57-year-old Norman M. (Deacon) Blesh, Lockport.
About 3:45 p.m., Mrs. Alvin Henderson, whose home on Route 654 near DuBoistown is near the river, reported to Williamsport police that she had seen what appeared to be a man’s body floating in the river.
Firefighters manning a Civil Defense boat lifted the badly decomposed body from the river. Lycoming County Coroner Dr. Earl R. Miller said death was due to drowning and was self-inflicted.
The body was taken to the Knight Funeral Home at Williamsport where members of the family made positive identification. Mr. Blesh was then removed to the Helt Funeral Home in Lock Haven where funeral arrangements were made.
Mr. Blesh had been ill since before Christmas when he disappeared from his home early on the morning of Feb. 7.
Mrs. Blesh said her husband, who had lost about 30 pounds and been despondent, arose about 3:30 a.m. and said he wanted to go downstairs for a cigarette. She followed immediately but he had already left through the front door. He
went into the cold winter night wearing a jacket, trousers and leather bedroom slippers.
Mrs. Blesh said she could not see him around their riverside home and called her brother, Roy Probst, and Lock Haven City Police.
The search was entered by the Lock Haven detail of state police and Woodward Township Chief of Police Kenneth G. Shoemaker. Organized by the firefighters were several weekend searches of the area between the Lock Haven dam
and the Jay St. bridge. On one weekend after several delays, city, fire and private boats searched from Lock Haven to Jersey Shore.
Leads were scarce. Once crows were seen circling an island near McElhattan. A pair of wrong-size shoes were found at the dam. A scarecrow was found in the river. All were investigated with no results.
On the Sunday following his disappearance, Mr. Blesh’s wallet was found in a kitchen cabinet at his home.
Mr. Blesh was born in Swissdale, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Blesh.
For 20 years he worked for the Winner Packing Co., in his trade as a butcher, and more recently had been employed by Thompson’s Packing Plant, Jersey Shore, in their store.
He had not been working since he became ill at Christmas.
