Mary Ann Zemba Kovach
Mary Ann Zemba Kovach, 100, a resident of Elmwood Presbyterian Lodge, died at her home Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998.
She was born June 29, 1897, daughter of the late John and Anna Bedner Zemba.
Mrs. Kovach, a former resident of Curwensville, Clearfield County, was a homemaker. She formerly worked at Kovach's Clothing Store in Curwensville.
She attended Curwensville Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Presbyterian Women. She also belonged to Rhoda Rebekah Lodge in Curwensville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Kovach, in 1968; and a brother, Joseph Zemba.
She is survived by four daughters, Grace Francemore of Clearfield, Louise Kovach and Dorothy Larson, both of Erie, and Mary Jean Kuhn of Edinboro; two sons, John Kovach of Baltimore, Md., and William Kovach of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends may call at Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home in Curwensville on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The service will be private, conducted by the Rev. Matthew L. Sauer.
Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Elmwood Presbyterian Lodge, 2628 Elmwood Ave., Erie, PA 16508.
Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th St., is in charge of local arrangements.

Marjorie Cooper Lewis
Marjorie Ann Cooper Lewis, 63, of Erie, died at her home Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998.
She was born March 14, 1934, in Mansfield, Ohio, daughter of the late Oscar and Mayrtle Balliet Cooper.
Mrs. Lewis had worked as an apartment manager. She was an avid reader and belonged to many book and reading clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Sheridan Lewis.
She is survived by two sons, Philip and Michael Troy Lewis, both of Erie.
Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th St., Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until the time of a service there at 8 p.m.
Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family in care of Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th St., Erie, PA 16502.

Helen Skrzypczak Kurczewski
Helen Skrzypczak Kurczewski, 89, of 304 Olivia St., McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, formerly of Erie, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Mariner Health of West Hills in Coraopolis.
She was born June 26, 1908, in Lubin, Wis., daughter of the late Michael and Josephine Skoropinski Skrzypczak.
Mrs. Kurczewski worked for General Electric Co. in Erie as a moldmaker for 15 years. She was a housekeeper at James Parker Middle School for eight years and owned the Phillipsville Store and Tavern.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kurczewski, in 1982; a son, Richard Kurczewski, on June 23, 1997; two brothers, Joe and Edward Skrzypczak; and two sisters, Mary Pawlowski and Sophie Nunewski.
She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Podsiadly of McKees Rocks; five grandchildren, Laurie Cock, Barbara Babo, Richard Kurczewski II, John and Robert Kurczewski; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Harry D. Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie St., Edinboro, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Monday at 1 p.m.
Burial will be at Edinboro Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2115 W. 38th St., Erie, PA 16508.

Harold H. Madrigale
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Harold H. Madrigale, 54, of Largo, Fla., formerly of Erie, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater.
Mr. Madrigale moved to Florida from Erie in 1979. He worked for Amoco Oil Co. in Clearwater as a manager and performed as a musician in the Harold More Musical Group.
He was a member of American Legion Post 252 in Seminole, Fla., Moose Lodge 1030 in Clearwater and Elks Lodge 2159 in Largo. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include his mother, Sylvia Madrigale of Erie; his wife, Nin Madrigale; two sons, Thomas J. Madrigale of Erie and Robert Madrigale of Clearwater; a daughter, Laura Miller of Clearwater; two brothers, Gil Madrigale of Bridgewater, Mass., and Oliver Madrigale of Erie; a sister, Kathleen Blawn of Dayton, Ohio; a close friend, Jean Newman of Clearwater; and five grandchildren.
Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 South Belcher Road, Clearwater, is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Flynn Scheidemantel
Edna Mae Flynn Scheidemantel, 91, formerly of Edinboro, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Wesbury United Methodist Community in Meadville.
She was born Oct. 2, 1906, in Edinboro, daughter of the late Joseph and Nina Mae Billings Flynn.
Mrs. Scheidemantel, who was a graduate of Edinboro Normal School, taught at Sherrod Hill School for two years. Later she became a typesetter for the Edinboro Independent newspaper.
She was a charter member of the Edinboro Heather Garden Club and a life member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 359. She also belonged to the United Methodist Women and Edinboro Shadbush Club. She enjoyed quiltmaking and gardening.
Mrs. Scheidemantel was very interested in Edinboro University student life; she hosted many students and kept in contact with them over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. Scheidemantel, in 1993; a brother, Carl McWilliams; and a sister, Doris Hovis.
She is survived by a son, David Scheidemantel of Flushing, Mich.; four daughters, Mrs. Clair (Joanna) Hamilton of Ulysses, Potter County, Mrs. Thomas (Jane) Lloyd of Edinboro, Mrs. David (Joyce) Dunkle of Spring Creek, Warren County, and Mrs. Kirby (Laura Lee) Oldham of Olean, N.Y.; a brother, Clare L. Flynn and his wife, Marie, of Edinboro; two sisters, Mrs. R.A. (Marie) Fuller and Mrs. Dale (Elsie Jean) Harned, both of Edinboro; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie St., Edinboro, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held at Edinboro United Methodist Church, 113 High St., on Monday at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Dean Ziegler.
Burial will be at Edinboro Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Edinboro United Methodist Church or the charity of one's choice.

Betty Umstead Manross
FRANKLIN - Betty Umstead Manross, 67, of RD 1 Seneca, Venango County, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Northwest Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 17, 1930, in Butler, daughter of the late Daniel and Dorothy Caldwell Umstead Sr.
Mrs. Manross was a homemaker. She attended First Church of God in Oil City, Venango County. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and camping.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil W. Manross, on March 25, 1995; they were marriage Aug. 8, 1948.
Also preceding her in death were an infant son, Theodore Wallace Manross; a brother, Clarence E. Umstead; and two sisters, Mae Kaye and Barbara Jean Umstead.
She is survived by two sons, Robert W. Manross Sr. and his wife, Sharyn, and Thomas E. Manross and his wife, Dora, all of RD 1 Seneca; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Cheryl) Johnston of RD 1 Seneca; seven grandchildren, Robert Manross Jr., Stacey Beightol, Michele Vickous, Brooke Johnston and Tonya, Misty Sue and Cathi Jo Manross; two brothers, Daniel Umstead Jr. and Charles Lloyd Umstead, both of Franklin; five sisters, Mrs. Robert (Sara) Meals, Mary Briley, Joan Boyles and Dorothy Longwell, all of Franklin, and Mrs. Ray (Shirley) Diefenderfer of Ahrensville, Venango County; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Monday at 1 p.m.
Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.

Arthur Henry Hurst
Arthur Henry Hurst, 63, of Woodland Hills, Calif., formerly of Erie, died Jan. 10, 1998, in Woodland Hills.
He was born Feb. 1, 1934, in White Oak, Allegheny County, son of Thomas Hurst of White Oak and the late Charlotte Mae Ball Hurst.
Mr. Hurst, who was a 1952 graduate of McKeesport High School, graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science degree in 1956. While attending college he was enrolled in ROTC, then served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a lieutenant.
Mr. Hurst was an engineer, knowledgeable in computers, who had lived and worked in California for the past 37 years.
He worked for Erie Resistor Corp. in Erie and California starting in 1958, then for 3M Company from 1962 until his retirement in 1996. With 3M he was a senior systems engineer with the data storage tape technology division in Camarillo, Calif. Since 1997 he had worked for Leadtec Systems of Canoga Park, Calif.
Mr. Hurst, who played piano and violin, collected music recordings from around the world and was an officer of ethnic dance and music groups.
In addition to his father, survivors include his wife, Donna Didion Hurst, formerly of North East, whom he marriage Dec. 31, 1960; two sisters, Nancy Clark of White Oak and and Sally Patterson of McKeesport; an uncle and several aunts, nieces and nephews.
W.O. Hunter Funeral Home in McKeesport, 1600 Coursin St., was in charge of Pennsylvania arrangements.
Burial was at Jefferson Memorial Park in Pleasant Hills.
Memorials may be made to a fund established to buy a computer for the West Valley Boys & Girls Club, PO Box 6576, Woodland Hills, CA 91365; Attention Columbus Unit Computer Lab.

Raymond Paul Drummer
CONNEAUT, Ohio - Raymond Paul Drummer, 84, formerly of Beaver St., Conneaut, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 8, 1913, in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Carl A. and Mary A. Kolhoff Drummer.
Mr. Drummer, who had been a resident of Conneaut since 1948, worked for Union Carbide Corp. as a furnace tapper, retiring in 1975.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Conneaut. He enjoyed reading.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne Drummer, in 1986; and a daughter, Roberta J. Young, in 1985.
He is survived by two daughters, Janice R. Vincent of Akron, Ohio, and Mary A. Drummer of Conneaut; three sons, Raymond J. Drummer of Conneaut, David P. Drummer of Akron and James S. Drummer of Geneva, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Matthew and Monica Young, Michael Crossman, Raymond J. Drummer Jr. and Gloria, Marianne and Crystal Drummer; two sisters, M. Helen Volle of Green Valley, Ariz., and Mary D. Jackson of Arlington, Va.; and two brothers, William Drummer of New Orleans and Thomas V. Drummer of Ottawa, Ohio.
Friends may call at Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, on Monday at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
