Anthony L. Cherico
Anthony L. Cherico, 74, of 16 Walden Way, Imperial, Allegheny County, formerly of Erie, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Ohio Valley General Hospital in Pittsburgh after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 27, 1923, in New Bethlehem, Clarion County, son of the late Anthony N. and Josephine Cherico.
Mr. Cherico worked at the Erie County Prison as a guard for 15 years. He had spent the past 11 years in Florida.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Anne M. Cuzzola Cherico; a daughter, Mrs. Tim (Marianne) Sutto of Pittsburgh; four sons, Anthony J. Cherico and his wife, Paulette, and Charles Cherico and his wife, Cheryl, all of Pittsburgh, David Cherico of Wattsburg and his wife, Barbara, and Greg Cherico of Detroit, Mich.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at John R. Orlando Funeral Home, 2122 Raspberry St., Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Thursday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery.

Verna Wright Murphy
TITUSVILLE - Verna Wright Murphy, 90, a resident of Conners Personal Care Home in Spartansburg, Crawford County, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Titusville Area Hospital.
She was born Feb. 1, 1907, in Shamburg, Venango County, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Ada Harrington Wright.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of Hydetown Baptist Church and the missionary society. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley M. Murphy, on June 17, 1991; they were marriage Dec. 3, 1927.
Also preceding her in death were three sons, William and James Murphy and an infant son; an infant daughter, Betty Murphy; seven brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Flora) Harvey and Mrs. Joseph (Sylvia) Flanagan, both of Titusville, and Mrs. Harlan (Verna) Nefstead of Centerville, Crawford County; three sons, Harley "Ben" Murphy Jr. of Townville, Crawford County, Fred Murphy of Centerville and Timothy Murphy of Titusville; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 North Washington St., Titusville, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Thursday at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Robert Andrews, pastor of Hydetown Baptist Church.
Burial will be at Jerusalem Corners Cemetery in Pleasantville.
Memorials may be made to Hydetown Baptist Church, Main Street, Hydetown, PA 16328.

Richard Charles Seymour
Richard Charles Seymour, 77, of Erie, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Hamot Medical Center.
He was born July 31, 1920, in Whittemore, Iowa, son of the late Charles and Marie Dorweiler Seymour.
Mr. Seymour, who was a graduate of the University of Nebraska, was a licensed professional engineer. He worked for General Electric Co. for 15 years.
Mr. Seymour was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, completing 32 bombing missions over Europe as a B-24 pilot.
He was a parishioner of St. George Catholic Church. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Blind Veteran Association and American Legion Post 11.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Vetre.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Benita C. Stork Seymour; a daughter, Mrs. David (Anne) Strazisar of Erie; four grandchildren, Mark, James, Laura and Jeanette Strazisar; and a sister, Mrs. Russell (Dorothy) Kernick of Norfolk, Neb.
No visiting hours will be observed. The service will be private.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. George School, 1612 Bryant St., Erie, PA 16509; St. Andrew School, 606 Raspberry St., Erie, PA 16502; American Lung Association, 352 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16502; or the Humane Society, 418 W. 38th St., Erie, PA 16508.

Martha Schultz Penske
SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio - Martha Schultz Penske, 90, of Shaker Heights, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at the home of her son, Roger, in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
She was born July 7, 1907, in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late William S. and Clara Louise Johnston Schultz.
Mrs. Penske was an active member of her church, Christ Episcopal in Shaker Heights. Her late husband, Julius H. Penske, was born and raised in Erie.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, was a brother, Joseph Schultz.
Survivors include two sons, Roger S. Penske of Bloomfield Hills and his wife, Kathy, and David B. Penske of Valley Forge and his wife, Trish; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Brown-Forward Funeral Home, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Heights, on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Friday at 4 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Christ Church Foundation, in care of Christ Episcopal Church, 3445 Warrensville Center Road, Shaker Heights, OH 44122.

Margaret O'Brien Snyder
FRANKLIN - Margaret A. O'Brien Snyder, 87, of 22 Oak St., Franklin, Venango County, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 20, 1998, at Northwest Medical Center in Franklin.
She was born Aug. 28, 1910, in Franklin, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Vivian Viola Cozad O'Brien.
Mrs. Snyder worked at Polk Center in the dietary department for 10 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Fox Street Church of God, where she was a member of the communion committee.
She enjoyed reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence A. Snyder, on Feb. 14, 1964; they were marriage Oct. 28, 1935.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Thomas, John and Paul O'Brien; a sister, Virginia Brandon; and a granddaughter, Stacy Sue Snyder.
Survivors include two sons, William Paul Snyder of Franklin and David Frank Snyder of RD 3 Franklin and his wife, Donna; two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Barbara "Bobbie") Latchaw and Sue Anne Buchan, all of Franklin; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Thursday at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Robert Meckley of Fox Street Church of God.
Burial will be at Franklin Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Venango County.

Judith Olson Sholtis
ASHTABULA, Ohio - Judith M. Olson Sholtis, 96, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Carrington Park Nursing Home in Ashtabula.
She was born July 15, 1901, in Ashtabula, daughter of the late John and Anna Olson.
Mrs. Sholtis, who was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula, worked for Brunner Fabric Factory as a seamstress for more than 20 years.
She was a parishioner of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Ashtabula. She took part in senior citizen activities at the YMCA and enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Sholtis, in 1988; a grandson, Mark Sholtis; two brothers, Walter and Hugo Olson; and four sisters, Evelyn, Esther Love, Alice Johnson and Hilder Tappe.
Survivors include two sons, Donald P. Sholtis of Erie and Robert J. Sholtis of Melbourne, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1514 W. 6th St., Ashtabula, on Friday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Bernard Gaeta will be the celebrant.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Saybrook Township, Ohio.
Memorials may be made to Mother of Sorrows Church.

John R. Lepley Sr.
FRANKLIN - John R. "Bob" Lepley Sr., 74, of South Main Street, Cooperstown, Venango County, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 20, 1998, at Northwest Medical Center in Franklin.
He was born Oct. 16, 1923, in Franklin, son of the late Robert L. and Mary Richey Lepley.
Mr. Lepley, who was a graduate of Franklin High School, owned and ran John R. Lepley & Sons Bus Service in Cooperstown for more than 50 years. He had also worked as an auto mechanic for Voit Auto and was a supervisor at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co.
He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 83, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 328, BPO Elks Lodge 110 and American Legion Post 476, all in Franklin, and the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Lepley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe with the 157th Battalion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glora J. Hoovler Lepley, on Jan. 25, 1993; they were marriage Feb. 15, 1947.
Also preceding him in death were a sister, Neva Heffern, and a brother, E. Denton Lepley.
He is survived by a son, John R. "Jack" Lepley Jr. of Cooperstown; three daughters, Cheryl Eakin and Mrs. Ronald (Carolyn) Bradley, all of Franklin, and Mrs. Donald (Charlene) Tarry of Bradleytown, Venango County; a sister, Mrs. Wilbur (Marianna) Miles of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; a brother, Zenas "Bill" Lepley of Franklin; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Friends may call at Huff Chapel, 312 West Park St., Franklin, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Friday at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jeffrey S. Bingman, pastor of Cooperstown Community Church.
Burial will be at Cooperstown Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church of one's choice.

John P. Szczutkowski
John P. Szczutkowski, 69, of Erie, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998.
He was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Erie, son of the late Bernard J. and Julia Bagniszewski Szczutkowski.
Mr. Szczutkowski was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a corporal.
He was a member of the Polish National Alliance. He enjoyed gardening and precious stones.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Szczutkowski.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Charles (Bernadette) Statton of Erie; three brothers, Bernard J. Szczutkowski of Colorado Springs, Colo., Francis A. Szczutkowski of Erie and Arthur J. Szczutkowski of Charleston, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 E. 12th St., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
