LUCY JULIE HAMROCK
Lucy Julie DeRosa Hamrock, 62, of Scottdale, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Lucy's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, with the Rev. Emil S. Payer as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, Scottdale. A parish rosary will be recited at 2 p.m., and a parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m., both on Wednesday, in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 700, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, in loving memory of Lucy Julie Hamrock.

ROBERT L. LONG
Robert L. Long, 82, of Bessemer Road, Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in Scottdale Manor Rehabilitation Center, following a lingering illness. Robert's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. David Shivley officiating. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, with full military honors accorded at the chapel by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post 446.

WILLIAM C. SIMMS
William C. Simms, 71, of Derry, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Lockport, a son of the late Jesse and Mary Gill Simms. A retired employee of Vulcan Mold and Iron Co., Latrobe, he had been a Pennsylvania hunting and trapping instructor and a bus driver for Mark Lines for 22 years. He was a member of St. Vincent Parish, the Kingston Vets and Sportsmen's Association, Possum Hollow Club, Baggaley Fire Hall, Hostetter Club, Derry Ukrainian Society, the Rod and Gun Club, Westmoreland County Federation of Sportsmen's Club, and the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Association. He was also a social member of Derry American Legion Post #324 and VFW Post #444. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannine Hough Simms; his second wife, Elizabeth Matuszky Simms; a son, Patrick A. Simms; and several brothers and sisters. Bill is survived by five sons, Carl and Bonnie Simms of New Derry, Harold and Lorraine Simms of Kingston, Gary and Marcia and Michael and Susan Simms, all of Derry, and Robert Matusky of Baggaley; three daughters, Sharon and Robert Forney of Latrobe, Melanie and John Pearce of New Alexandria, and Susan Matusky of Baggaley; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six brothers, Paul of Latrobe, Frank of Hillside, Dale of Kingston, Wayne of Mt. Pleasant, Ron of Greensburg, and Dennis of New Alexandria; four sisters, Mrs. Charles (Yvonne "Cook") Kelly of Latrobe, Mrs. Michael (Ila) Wassil and Gloria Simms, all of Whitney, and Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Riffle of Derry. Family will receive friends in the MICHAEL J. QUINLISK FUNERAL HOME INC., 548 N. Chestnut St., Derry, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Vincent Basilica with the Rev. Frank Ziemkiewicz, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.

EVA GELET ULERY
Eva Gelet Ulery, 85, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in Baldock Health Care Centre, North Huntingdon. She was born Oct. 20, 1914, in Brinkerton, Pa., a daughter of the late Thomas and Julia Pinchot Gelet. She was a member of the Norwin Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ulery; three brothers, Charles, Harry, and Richard Gelet; and a sister, Mary Fulmer. She is survived by two sons, Ron W. Ulery of North Huntingdon and Charles Thomas Ulery of Port Vue; a daughter, Virginia Lee Esasky of North Huntingdon; three brothers, Andrew Gelet of Wyano, Pa., Daniel Gelet of Champion, Ohio, and John Gelet of Glassport; a sister, Julia Christner of Acme; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dan Kaser officiating, followed by private interment in Jefferson Memorial Park.

VIOLA M. BAKER
Viola M. Baker, 76, of Manor, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, in her home. She was born Aug. 1, 1923, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Walter and Leona Pawelczyk Szymanski. She was a member of St. Barbara Church in Harrison City and the Young at Hearts. In addition to being a foster mother to several children, she enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and trips to Atlantic City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Eugene R. Baker; three sons, Robert of San Francisco, Calif., Michael of Douglassville, Pa., and David of Smithton; a brother, Walter Szymanski of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Dorothy Frederick of Everson; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Barbara Church with the Rev. V. Paul Fitzmaurice as celebrant. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. A vigil service will be held Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

WILSON ERRETT
Wilson Errett, 87, of Darragh, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Nov. 19, 1912, in Hempfield Township, a son of the late Albert F. and Olive E. (Eisaman) Errett. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Laborers International Union of North America Local #373, working at the former O.H. Martin Construction Co., Sharpsburg. His memberships included St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, Herminie, and the Jeannette American Legion Post 344. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Harry, Eddie and Kahl Errett; and three sisters, Clara Mae Loughner, Edna Williams and Emma Byerly. Mr. Errett is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen (King) Errett; a son, Edward and his wife, Marianne Errett, of Madison; three daughters, Virginia and her husband, Ken Stark, of Ballwin, Mo., Bette and her husband, Arthur Alexander, of Mt. Pleasant, and Patricia and her husband, David Dwyer, of Lexington, N.C.; five grandchildren, Joe, Mike, Chris, Michele, and Adrian; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas officiating. Entombment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.

JOSEPH W. FERNELL
Joseph W. Fernell, 70, of Derry RD1, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Latrobe Area Hospital. Born Sept. 24, 1929, in Luxor, a son of the late Samuel L. and Charlotte Sullenburger Fernell. He retired after 36 years of service at Edgar Thomson Steel Mill in Braddock and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia Lee Fernell; and a sister, Hazel Hower. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Wilma J. Shively Fernell; two daughters, Patricia Ann Fernell of Saltsburg and Brenda Sue Fernell of Norfolk, Va.; two sons, Joseph W. Fernell Jr. of Latrobe and Samuel L. and wife, Linda Fernell, of Ligonier RD1; a sister, Gertrude Fabri of Greensburg; a brother, Samuel L. Fernell Jr. of Canton, Ohio; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. John Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Cemetery, Delmont.

JAMES R. KARFELT
James R. Karfelt, 70, of Youngstown, Pa., died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Jan. 22, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late James and Mary Loukota Karfelt. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, Pa. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Walworth Company and Gee Bee's Department and Furniture stores. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Polish Falcons, for whom he played baseball. He was an avid baseball fan. He was a student at the former Hurst High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Karfelt; and four sisters, Mary Pfeifer, Christine Pfeifer, Josephine Sanda and Margaret Fedorka. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan "Dolly" Cepullio Karfelt; a daughter, Donna Marie Williams and husband, Steve, of Greensburg; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Katie and Adam Williams: a brother, Frank Karfelt and wife, Helen, of Mt. Pleasant; and a sister, Rose Bilik of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral service and interment were private. Memorials may be sent to the Bruno Ferrari Cancer Foundation, c/o Latrobe Area Hospital. EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM STASCHAK
William "Willie the Bartender" Staschak, 79, of Calumet, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Bethlen Home, Ligonier. He was born March 9, 1920, a son of the late George and Anna (Tepley) Staschak. Prior to retirement, he worked at Brown Boveri I.T.E. in South Greensburg, and had been a bartender at the Calumet Club for 23 years. He was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Trauger, and was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy. Willie was a member of a number of local social clubs and was known for his love of polka music. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary (Kubina) Staschak; two sisters, Mary Frederick and Pearl Staschak; and a half brother, George Staschak. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sophia (Krynicky) Staschak; his daughter, Marilyn "Mazie" McGinnis and husband, Clifford, of Ligonier; two grandchildren, Marlo R. Swanson and husband, Chris, of Sterling, Va., and Ryan W. McGinnis of Ligonier; three sisters, Teresa Zozula and husband, Paul, of Pittsburgh, Peg Zachetti and Irene Foschia, both of Greensburg; three stepsisters, Mary Countryman of Somerset, Margaret Zemba of Youngwood and Helen Streno of Florida; a stepbrother, John Kubina of Somerset; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Panachida service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Divine Liturgy to be celebrated in the St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Trauger, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Christopher R. Burke as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary Byzantine Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township. Members of St. Mary's Parish will meet Friday at 3 p.m. to pray the rosary. Parastas service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m.

WILLIAM F. RILEY
William F. Riley, 75, of Blairsville (Derry Township), passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at the Latrobe Area Hospital. A son of the late William and Virginia Allison Riley, he was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Dickerson, Md. Mr. Riley was an operating engineer for 48 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #66 of Pittsburgh. Surviving are his wife, Betty Jean Clawson Riley; a son, Richard E. Willard and his wife, Judy, of Whippany, N.J.; two stepsons, Jody Bailey and his wife, Barbara, of Enid, Okla., and Bryan Bailey of Grand Forks, N.D.; three daughters, Miss Jean McLaren of Oberlin, Pa., Mrs. Rudy (Kathy) Perisich of Pitman, N.J., and Mrs. John (Pamela) Everett of Oberlin; two stepdaughters, Tammy Zahornacky of Tracy, Calif., and Mrs. Atul (Misty) Bhatnagar of Wexford; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and two sisters, Mrs. George (Ruth) Ritz of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Shirley Christopher of Glen Burnie, Md. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Stitt Riley, in 1978; two brothers, Charles and Albert; and two sisters, Catherine Reggin and Clara Lowman. The family received friends at the RICHARD L. SHOEMAKER FUNERAL HOME, 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul L. Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the Blairsville Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #407.
