JOHN W. DARRAGH
John W. "Butch" Darragh, 70, of Greensburg, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born June 30, 1929, in Jeannette, a son of the late Wilson "Butch" and Cecilia "Sis" DeWar Darragh. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served in the 937th Ordinance HAM Co. Prior to retirement, he was employed as an expediter for the Elliott Co. in Jeannette. He was a member of the F.O.E. of Jeannette, and the Office Local of the United Steelworkers of America, Elliott Co. He is survived by his wife, Ann Yakiovich Darragh; a son, Scott J. Darragh of Greensburg; and a brother, Kenneth L. Darragh and wife, Patricia, of Grandview Heights, Jeannette. Also surviving are three nephews and a niece. Friends will be received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dale W. Roddy officiating. Interment will follow in the Jeannette Memorial Park, Penn Township.

HARRY VERNON SNYDER
Harry Vernon Snyder, 74, of Mt. Pleasant RD6, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Vernon was born Nov. 16, 1925, in Mt. Pleasant Township, a son of the late Harmon R. and Emma Florence Taylor Snyder. Vernon was Methodist by faith. He was a student at the former Hurst High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II, and was a recipient of the Pacific and American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. Also, he was a member of the VFW Post 3368, Mt. Pleasant. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Pittsburgh Plate Glass in its former Greensburg plant. Vernon is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary Angeline Sorace Snyder; a son, Paul V. Snyder and his wife, Terri, of Cranberry Township; and a brother, Richard Snyder and wife, Nancy, of Greensburg. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Father Michael W. Matusak officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Joy Cemetery.

SAMUEL O. THOMPSON
Samuel O. Thompson, 90, of Latrobe, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born June 30, 1909, in Jeannette, a son of the late Samuel Thompson Sr. and Mary Tall Thompson. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Latrobe. He was retired from Greensburg Salem School District and was a member of L.O.O.M., Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a son, Kenneth B. Thompson; three brothers, Harry, Houston, and Raymond Thompson; and a sister, Margaret Douglas. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean C. Moore Thompson; two daughters, Norma Jean Thompson of Latrobe and Mary Reiner and husband, George, of Lycippus; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy A. Thompson of Latrobe; five grandchildren, Kent Reiner and wife, Barbara, Steven Thompson and wife, Betsy, Jean Morrison and husband, Ray, Darlene Buck and husband, Thomas, and Laura Yuhaniak and husband, William; and five great-grandchildren, John Reiner, Shane Morrison, Nicholas Thompson, Jesse Yuhaniak, and Julie Thompson. Friends will be received Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Latrobe, with the Trinity clergy officiating. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.

ANNE AIELLO
Anne Aiello, 84, formerly of Belle Vernon and Monessen, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in the TLC Adult Care Center, West Newton, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Homestead, May 11, 1915, a daughter of the late John and Anna Pavel. Mrs. Aiello and her late husband, Ross, had owned and operated Ross's Men's Shop in Monessen for many years. They were residents of Monessen, prior to moving to Belle Vernon 25 years ago. She was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marie E. Hill, in April, 1999. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Patricia Aiello of Greensburg; a daughter, Susan Bianchi of Ruffsdale; two grandchildren, Ronald C. Aiello and Heather Bianchi; and a great-granddaughter, Jordan Aiello. Private funeral services will be held today in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., Monessen, with the Rev. John R. Cindric, V.F., pastor of St. Sebastian R.C. Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Mon Valley Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Albert Gallatin Hospice, 20 Highland Park Drive, Suite 203, Uniontown, PA 15401-8968.

MARIE ELIZABETH BRANNIGAN ARTIS
Marie Elizabeth Brannigan Artis, 73, of New Florence, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at her home. She was born in Greensburg, Dec. 21, 1926, a daughter of the late James P. and Marie Dreistadt Brannigan. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bolivar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Brannigan; and a sister, Catherine Brannigan. She is survived by her beloved husband, Paul T. Artis; and her loving children, Paul T. and wife, Carol Artis, of Delmont, Timothy P. and wife, Stacy Artis, of Latrobe, Sara Jones and husband, Donald, of Greensburg, Carol Groves and husband, Greg, of Florida, Karen Sutherland and husband, Tommy, of Alabama, Dolores Muir and husband, Robert, of New Florence and Margaret Beachy and husband, Edward, of Delaware; two brothers, Robert Brannigan of Greensburg and Thomas Brannigan of Latrobe; three sisters, Dolores Vimislicky and husband, William, of Ohio, Margaret Kridle and husband, Raymond, of Illinois and Sally Maras and husband, Steve, of Maryland; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Michael McIlwain officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions to Latrobe Hospice, c/o Latrobe Area Hospital, 12l W. Second St., Latrobe PA 15650.

BENJAMIN ELWOOD CUTRELL
Benjamin Elwood Cutrell, 76, of DeLand, Fla., formerly of Scottdale, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at his residence, following a lingering illness. He was born in Scottdale, the third son of the late George and Frances Nissley Cutrell. Ben is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stutzman Cutrell, with whom he celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Dec. 2, 1999; a daughter, Kathy Royer and her husband, Wayne, of Elkhart, Ind.; a son, David Cutrell of DeLand, Fla.; four grandchildren, Josh and Carrie Royer, Jennifer and Natasha Cutrell; three sisters, Helen Holdeman of Loveland, Colo., Janet Yost of Broomfield, Colo., and Ruth Neufeld of Loveland, Colo.; and two brothers, Sam Cutrell of Lakewood, Colo., and John Cutrell of Keedysville, Md. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Orie and George Richard Cutrell. Ben served as publisher of Mennonite Publishing House/Herald Press from 1961 until his retirement in 1988. He was the third publisher to head this Scottdale-based Mennonite Church organization, which began in 1908. During his tenure, the publishing effort grew from a $2 million to a $13 million business. Ben also shared his expertise in publishing with on-site consultations with the Lutheran Press, Papua New Guinea; the Lovedale Press, in a homeland of South Africa; and the Amity Press in Nanjing, China. Ben was a 1940 graduate of Scottdale High School. He studied at Eastern Mennonite School (now Eastern Mennonite University), Harrisonburg, Va., and graduated in 1944 from Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University), Pittsburgh, with a degree in printing management. Ben's family will receive friends in the Mennonite Church of Scottdale, 801 Market St., from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the West Fellowship Hall of the church. Memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. in the church Sanctuary with James E. Horsch officiating. Inurnment will be in the Alverton Cemetery. Local funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. The family suggests memorials be made to the Mennonite Publishing House of Scottdale or to the China Education Exchange. Checks may be made to the Mennonite Church of Scottdale or sent to the office at 801 Market St., Scottdale, PA 15683.

SISTER SCHOLASTICA FERSTL
Sister Scholastica Ferstl, O.S.B., 86, a member of the Sisters of St. Benedict, St. Emma Monastery, Greensburg, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at St. Anne Home, Greensburg. Born Aug. 18, 1913, in Premerzhofen, Germany, she professed vows in 1934 in the Abbey of St. Walburg, Eichstaett, Germany, and in 1934 came to St. Vincent Archabbey and College, Latrobe, where she worked in the Monastic dining room for over 50 years. She came with the last group of 13 Sisters from St. Vincent Archabbey to St. Emma Monastery and Retreat House in 1987, and worked in the retreatment's dining room until 1994. She is survived by two brothers; and nieces and nephews, in Germany, and her Monastic community. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at St. Emma Monastery, and a wake service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Fatima Chapel with burial in the Sisters' Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monastic Chapel Fund, St. Emma Monastery, 1001 Harvey Ave., Greensburg, PA 15601.

CHARLES LEE HIXSON
Charles Lee Hixson, 83, of Latrobe, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born July 26, 1916, in Greensburg, a son of the late Charles G. and Sara J. Green Hixson. He was a retired self-employed farmer for over 40 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army, and a member of the American Legion #515, Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Floyd Hixson. He is survived by his wife, Bernice "Bea" Hixson; a son, David L. Hixson and his wife, Susan, of Ligonier RD4; four grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Christy and Melanie; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Funeral services Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fairmont Cemetery, Cook Township. Military services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

BEATRICE R. KING
Beatrice R. King, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, in the IHS of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg. She was born at Smithton, Aug. 21, 1917, a daughter of the late Palmiro and Mary Bergia Paterline. She was a member of the St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. Prior to retirement, she was employed at the cafeteria at Ruffsdale Elementary School, and was later employed at the Westmoreland County Courthouse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin "Turk" King, in 1988; and a sister, Eleanor Bruno. She is survived by a son, John C. "Turk" King and his wife, Virginia, of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Donna Nudo of Connellsville and Bonita Damico and husband, Daniel, of Mt. Pleasant; her close friend, Netter Chalot of New Stanton; nine grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters and a great-grandson. Funeral service and interment will be private, in charge of the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant.

L. HAROLD LEPRO
L. Harold Lepro, 92, of Greensburg, formerly of Valley Inn, Monongahela, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Oak Hill Nursing Home, Greensburg. He was born July 31, 1907, in Midway, Pa., a son of the late William Henry and Claire Morrison Lepro. Mr. Lepro was a graduate of Midway High School, Class of 1925, and also graduated from Tri-State College in Angola, Ind., in 1930, with an Electrical Engineering Degree. Mr. Lepro retired in 1972 from West Penn Power Mitchell Station after 31 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monongahela and a former trustee. He was also a life member of the Angola Lodge #236 F&AM. Surviving relatives are three sons, Harold C. and daughter-in-law, Patricia Lepro, of Greensburg, Myron W. and daughter-in-law, Angela Lepro, of Arden, N.C., and Larry R. and daughter-in-law, Twila Lepro, of Amity; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy I. Schwab Lepro, who died May 15, 1997. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the L.M. FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Wilmesherr officiating. Interment will be in Raccoon Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Bulger, Pa.
