ALBERT J. DiMATTEO
Albert J. DiMatteo, 78, of Jeannette, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, in the IHS of Greater Pittsburgh. He was born March 23, 1921, in Jeannette, a son of the late Rocco and Teresa Fioriti DiMatteo. Prior to retirement, he was a lab technician at Westinghouse. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was a member of the Ascension Church, and the American Legion Post #344, both in Jeannette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Pasquale, Carl and Ralph DiMatteo. He is survived by a sister, Mary Marco of Jeannette; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday in the Ascension Church, at a time to be announced. Interment will follow in the Jeannette Catholic Cemetery, Penn Township.

JAMES C. LAWSON
James C. Lawson, 55, of Jeannette, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born June 30, 1944, in Manor, a son of Elizabeth Wolfgang Lawson of Jeannette and the late Joseph H. Lawson Sr. He had worked as a waiter for 37 years at various restaurants. He was a member of Brush Creek Salem United Church of Christ and a member of Shidle Lodge 601 Free and Accepted Masons, Irwin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph H. Lawson Jr. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Janet Susko and her husband, John, of Irwin; three nephews, Joseph Lawson, Jeffrey Lawson and Jason Susko; and a niece, Lori Wilson. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at which time a memorial service will be held with the Rev. F. Edmund Jenkins officiating. Masonic services will be held Sunday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Those wishing may contribute to St. Paul Homes, 339 E. Jamestown Road, Greenville, PA 16125.

LEONARD POSTER
Leonard Poster, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000. He was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Phillip and Bessie Levine Poster. He was treasurer for many years for the former Tree of Life Congregation, Mt. Pleasant. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement, he was a partner in the former Poster Auto Sales, Mt. Pleasant. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vera Goldwasser Poster; a son, Jack Poster and his wife, Kim, of Leesburg, Va.; a daughter, Marjorie Marks and her husband, Richard, of Monroeville; two grandchildren, Carrie and Lauren Poster; a brother, Milton Poster of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Gladys Poster Dunhoff and Norma Poster Shapiro, both of Latrobe; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Freda Poster Weiss of Pittsburgh. Friends will be received in GALONE CARUSO'S, 204 Eagle St., Mt. Pleasant, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Service time for Tuesday will be announced when complete. Interment in B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Hempfield Township. In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests contributions to the Parkinson's Disease Chapter of Greater Pittsburgh, 6470 Monitor St., Pittsburgh PA 15217, in memory of Mr. Poster.

RUBY SEKERKA
Ruby "Kitty" Sekerka, 77, of West Newton, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at her home. Kitty was born June 12, 1922, in Kingwood, W.Va., a daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Loraw. In addition to her parents, Kitty was preceded in death by four sisters, Lucille Beatty, Ruth Etter, Helen Sharp and Phyllis Bise. Kitty is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert M. Sekerka; a daughter, Andrea Berarducci of West Newton; four grandchildren, Aileen Lash and her husband, Cuffy, Tony Berarducci and his wife, Patti, and Frank Berarducci and his wife, Debbie, all of West Newton, and Marla Berarducci of Wilmington, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the RICHARD F. DODSON FUNERAL HOME, 213 Main St., West Newton, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Sukolsky officiating. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery.

CLARENCE E. SHAFFER
Clarence E. "Pickey" Shaffer, 93, of Derry, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was the son of the late Dallas P. and Cora Etta Clawson Shaffer. He was a retired supervisor from Emerson Electric, which had formerly been Wiegand Electric Co. in Pittsburgh. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Derry; LaMonte Lodge #568 F&AM of Derry; Delta Lodge of Pittsburgh; Artisian Association of Philadelphia; Scottish Rite of Pittsburgh; Syria Shrine Temple of Pittsburgh; and the Etna B.P.O.E. He was a 1925 graduate of Derry Borough High School. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, E. Louise Brant Shaffer, on Sept. 6, 1999; and two sisters, Ethel and Velma Malcomson. Surviving are four sisters, Mary Malcomson of Youngstown, Ohio, Grace Snyder of Uniontown, Mildred Kean of Bolivar RD1 and Mrs. Walter (Helen) Telischak of North Royalton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and Donald R. Burd of Derry, with whom he had been residing. Friends will be received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry, where services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. with his pastor, the Rev. Dean E.G. Roberts, officiating. Interment will follow in Coles Cemetery. LaMonte Lodge #568 F&AM will conduct services Monday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

ALFRETTA E. KEYSER ULERY
Alfretta E. Keyser Ulery, 69, of Stahlstown RD1, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born March 29, 1930, in Hunker, a daughter of the late Edwin H. and Maude Errett Keyser. She attended the former Hurst High School in Norvelt. She was employed at the Townhouse Restaurant in Ligonier for many years, and was also self-employed as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Ligonier. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Earnest C. Ulery, in 1964; and a brother, George M. Keyser. She is survived by a daughter, Connie Small and her husband, Gary, of Stahlstown; two grandchildren, Kelli and Staci Small; three brothers, Carl Keyser and his wife, Nancy, of Scottdale, and Thomas and Norman Keyser, both of Thorndale; and a sister, Sandra Emerick of Newville. Friends will be received in the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 711, Melcroft, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Robert Cummings officiating. Interment will follow in the Donegal Cemetery.

JAMES M. UNDERWOOD
James M. Underwood, 90, of Latrobe and Sea Island, Ga., died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at his home in Latrobe. He was born Feb. 27, 1909, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Fred Perry and Jean (Martin) Underwood. Prior to his retirement on April 14, 1981, he was the chairman of the board of the former Vulcan Inc. after a 40-year career. Mr. Underwood first came to Vulcan Mold in 1935 for a five-year stretch as assistant secretary-treasurer, and time study expert. He then went to the Toyad Corp. in Latrobe and became executive vice president, leaving in 1941, when he founded the Halund Co. which made gas tank molds used during World War II. He served as president until 1945. He then returned to Vulcan in 1946 as president, and enlarged the small foundry in Latrobe to a three-plant operation in three states. He first enlarged and modernized the original plant in Latrobe in 1948. He opened a second ingot mold foundry in the Chicago area at Lansing in 1951, and in 1962 developed a third Vulcan Mold casting facility in Trenton, Mich. Growth and progress continued over the next three decades. In 1966, Vulcan moved into a new manufacturing area with the acquisition of the Westmoreland Plastics Company. In 1968, a third division was added with the purchase of Hydro Carbide Company and the company acquired two Pittsburgh engineering companies to form Vulcan Engineering. In 1971, the acquisition of Shepard Niles Crane & Hoist, and the Chemung Foundry took place. In 1979, the new Westmoreland Plastics injection molding plant was built in Latrobe along with a second Hydro Carbide in Gulfport, Miss., and in 1980 the acquisition of Parnell Industries Inc. occurred. He was a 1925 graduate of Latrobe High School, a 1926 graduate of Shadyside Academy, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1930, where he was on the swim team, and was a member and past president of the Phi-Delta-Theta Fraternity. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1932. Jim served on the Latrobe Borough Council for 27 years and was president for 16 years. While on council, Jim was instrumental in forming the Westmoreland County Airport Authority in 1951, and served as the authority chairman until 1968, working diligently to help make the airport a success. He also served on the Latrobe Hospital Board from 1948 until 1982, serving as chairman from 1961-1966. His work on the board helped change the hospital from a small community hospital to one that has expanded services and has attained a national reputation. Jim also developed and taught some of the first business administration courses at St. Vincent College, was a trustee at the University of Pittsburgh from 1964-1971, was chairman of the Young Republicans of Westmoreland County, was a member of the Defense Orientation Conference in Washington, and ran for Congress in 1940. He was a member and elder of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Rolling Rock Club, the Sea Island Country Club, the Duquesne Club, the University Club, the Latrobe Elks, and the Sea Island Cottage Owners. In addition to all of the above, Jim was an avid skeet shooter, golfer, bowler, fisherman, and an enthusiastic photographer. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne E. (Saxman) Underwood; a son, James M. Underwood Jr.; his second wife, Alice (Clemens) Underwood; his third wife, Evelyn (Crane) Underwood; and three brothers, Thomas, Joseph and Roy Underwood. He is survived by three children, Ann Underwood Potts of Greensburg, Thomas S. Underwood and his wife, Judy, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Charles P. Underwood and his wife, Patricia, of Montour Falls, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, Catherine Houston, Thomas Potts, Alice Potts Goldemen, James, Timothy, Elisabeth and Katherine Underwood, Tracey and Thomas Underwood, Charles Underwood Jr., Stephen and Christine Underwood, and Scott Collett; seven great-grandchildren; and his daughter-in-law, Marsha Underwood of Latrobe. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Unity Chapel, Unity Township, with the Rev. Dr. David B. Batchelder and the Rev. John Silbert co-officiating. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation, West Second Avenue, Latrobe, PA 15650.

RUTH M. WAREHAM
Ruth M. Wareham, 85, of Greensburg, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born May 26, 1914, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late George and Margaret Anderson McFarland. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Ray, and her second husband, James Wareham. Also preceded by a brother, John McFarland; and three sisters, Josephine Good, Helen King and Florence Good. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Jean Waugaman of Greensburg, Mrs. Florence Pearch and her husband, Bryce, of Little River, S.C., Mrs. Ruth Doty and her husband, Thomas, of Canonsburg and Mrs. Betty Campbell and her husband, David, of Geneva, Ohio; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul McFarland of Greensburg and Thomas McFarland and his wife, Rita, of Gibsonia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the COSHEY-NICHOLSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 319 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John E. Duvall officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Ashtabula, Ohio. Alvin P. Oskin Jr., funeral director, in charge of arrangements.

ELIZABETH J. VanWEY BOYLE
Elizabeth J. "Betty" VanWey Boyle, 80, loving and caring mother of seven children, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Derry, a daughter of the late Harry and Fern Shannon VanWey. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Irwin, its Golden Echoes, Confraternity of Christian Mothers, and Seton Group; a member of the Greenridge Gems Bowling League and was a volunteer at Westmoreland Manor. Betty was also an avid golfer and card player. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Boyle, in April of 1979. Surviving are three daughters, Mary and her husband, James Doran, of Jeannette, Patricia and her husband, Mark Wright, of Mt Pleasant, and Beth and her husband, Dave Thomas, of Irwin; four sons, Thomas P. Boyle of Jeannette, Michael and his wife, Betty, of Penn Hills, Kevin and his wife, Debbie, of Greensburg, and Keith and his wife, Cyndie, of Acme; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jo and her husband, Gene McDonald, of Latrobe. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., Fifth and Oak streets, Irwin, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Huntingdon.

ANTOINETTE M. BRANT
Antoinette M. Brant, 59, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born June 24, 1940, in McKeesport, a daughter of the late Anthony and Yolanda Marconi Canova. She is survived by her husband, Paul E. Brant; her son, Ronald Brant and his wife, Cathy; and a daughter, Kimberly Huff, all of Greensburg; a brother, Bob Canova of West Mifflin; a sister, Linda Oakman of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Daniel, Steven, Michael and James. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by entombment in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.
