Elizabeth I. Hoffer, 63, of Latrobe, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in her home. She was born May 19, 1938, in Blairsville, a daughter of the late Lester L. and Edna Jones Stemmerich. She was retired from Classic Industries, and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer L. Hoffer Sr., in 1992; and a sister, Gladys Stemmerich. She is survived by three stepchildren, Elmer L. Hoffer Jr. of Ligonier, Derrick Hoffer of Bradenville and Oma Hoffer of Latrobe; three step-grandchildren; five brothers, F. Russell Stemmerich of Ligonier, James L. Stemmerich of Homer City, Thomas W. Stemmerich of South Carolina, Richard A. Stemmerich of Ligonier and Staff Sgt. Daniel E. Stemmerich, USMC (retired) of South Carolina; a sister, Mrs. William (Jane) Frisky of Sheffield Village, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, where service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. August B. Twigg officiating. Interment , Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville.

Rebecca K. Kalp
Champion
Rebecca K. Kalp, 72, of Champion RD1, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, in her home. She was born June 24, 1929, in Middlecreek Township, a daughter of the late Foster and Ada (Pritts) Klink. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morrison "Red" Kalp, in 1989; three brothers, Harry, Ruben and Perry Klink; and a sister, Ellie Geary. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Yost and husband, James, of Champion RD1 and Kathy Laxton and husband, James, of Jones Mills; three grandchildren, Jimmy, Jason and Laura Lee Yost; two great-grandchildren, J.J. Yost and Mattylyn Rebecca Yost; and two sisters, Marie Nedrow of Rockwood and Gladys Keslar of Donegal. She was a member of the Somerset Church of the Brethren and the Kingwood Rebekah Lodge. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 555 Tayman Ave., Somerset, 814-445-6900. Service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Somerset Church of the Brethren, with the Revs. Mark Bendes, Roger Forry and Kenneth Davis co-officiating. Interment will be held in Tinkey Cemetery, Champion. Memorial contributions may be sent to the In Touch Hospice, 1590 N. Center Ave., Somerset, PA 15501, or the American Diabetes Association. The Rebekah Lodge will hold a service Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Judith A. "Judie" Gibson Latine
Irwin
Judith A. "Judie" Gibson Latine, 61, of Irwin, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in her home. She was born Aug. 29, 1940, in McKeesport, a daughter of Albert Gibson of Fontana, Calif., and the late Margaret McDonald Gibson. She was an employee of McKeesport Prescription and an avid bingo player. In addition to her father, she is survived by her stepmother, Beverly Gibson; her companion of nine years, Jim Rulyak of Irwin; two sons, Gerald Blyshak of McClellanville, S.C., and Jeffery Blyshak of Erie; two grandchildren; a brother, Dennis Gibson of Vernon, Texas; also two nieces. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m., with a memorial service to be held at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Dr. R. Bruce Maxwell officiating.

Stella M. "Mimi" Martin
Connellsville
Stella M. "Mimi" Martin, 71, of Connellsville, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, in her home. She was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Alexander and Sophia Szmania Helkowsky. She was born and raised in Scottdale and had been a member of the Connellsville community for 48 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Anchor Glass for 38 years. She was a member and past president of the GBBA Union Local #136. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville and a member of its Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the Columbian Ladies of Scottdale. She is survived by her loving husband of 48½ years, Robert E. Martin Sr.; her loving children, Robert E. Martin Jr. of Newark, Del., Dennis J. Martin and his wife, Rita, of Dunbar, Timothy A. Martin and his wife, Stella, of Ohiopyle and Paula M. Martin of Connellsville; her grandchildren, Melissa, Gina and Christopher Martin, all of Dunbar; a brother, Daniel Helkowsky and his wife, Sarah, of Scottdale; and a sister, Frances Flannagan and her husband, Samuel, of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur, Victor, Alexander Jr. and Joseph Helkowsky; and four sisters, Helen Hepler, Pauline Mascia, Mary Ann Earnesty and Virginia Henderson. Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Terry Hercik and the Rev. J. Edward McCullough as concelebrants. A committal service and interment will follow in the Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. A parish wake service will be held Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Raymond Miller
Florida
Formerly of Irwin
Raymond Miller, 74, of Florida, formerly of Irwin, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in Florida. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Margaret (Fox) Miller; a daughter, Darlene Miller of Fenton, Mich.; two sons, Terry Miller of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jim Miller of Birmingham, Ala.; a grandson, Daniel Miller of Birmingham, Ala.; and two sisters, Dorothy Tylavsky and Beatrice Simon. Ray and Peg were longtime residents of Irwin before moving to Cocoa Beach in 1998. Friends will be received at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, Saturday, Nov. 17, from 3 to 4 p.m., followed by a brief memorial service in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Clifton J. Suehr officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mary M. Moore
Latrobe
Mary M. Moore, 62, of Latrobe, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Nov. 24, 1939, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Lewis) Banner. Survivors include three children, Michael Earl Moore and his wife, Shannon, of Latrobe, Colleen Renee Harris and her husband, Jonathan, of Latrobe and Daniel Elton Moore of Baldwin; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Linda Adams of Latrobe. A private service was held Friday in the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., Latrobe, followed by private interment in St. Rose Cemetery, Derry Township.

Alice G. Novosielski
Arnold
Alice G. Novosielski, 79, of Arnold, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, in the Vincentian DeMarillac Nursing Home, Pittsburgh. She was born in Carnegie, July 18, 1922, and had been a lifetime resident of the Arnold area. She was employed by the Internal Revenue Service, retiring as a clerical supervisor with 42 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She is survived by a sister, Helen Modzelewski of Princeton, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, John and Mary Kisska Gorczyca, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard S. "Charlie" Novosielski; and four sisters, Jane Begeny, Leone Wagner, Loretta Proch and Rose Filipowski. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the RUSIEWICZ FUNERAL HOME INC., 1400 Fifth Ave., Arnold, where prayers of transfer will be said Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary R.C. Church, New Kensington, with the Rev. Richard P. Karenbauer as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lower Burrell.

Vivian M. "Teddy" Shamberger

Vivian M. "Teddy" Shamberger, 83, of Washington Township, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in her home. Born Oct. 22, 1918, in Kiski Township, she was a daughter of the late Carleton C. and Mabel Luella Kipp Shellhammer. She lived in the Kiski Valley all of her life. Prior to retiring in 1999, she was employed for several years as a sales clerk by Duppstadt Jewelry Stores in Vandergrift and Apollo. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Oklahoma Borough; an avid bridge player; and loved working in the jewelry stores. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira S. "Pete" Shamberger, in 1975; and a sister, Mildred Evans. She is survived by a son, Terry L. Shamberger of Lititz; a daughter, Patricia M. Hackett of Bethel Park; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lyle and James Shellhammer, both of Home, Pa., Alan Shellhammer of Shelocta and Neil Shellhammer of Greensburg; and three sisters, Audrey Soska of East Vandergrift, Joyce Grantz of North Apollo and Ozelma Fouse of Maryland. Friends will be received in the GERALD J. MEDICE FUNERAL HOME, 604 Moore Ave., North Apollo, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Keith A. Deckinger, officiating. Interment in Boiling Springs Presbyterian Cemetery in Spring Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to either the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Lucinda Shrum

Lucinda Shrum, 92, of Derry, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in the Barnes House, Derry Township. She was born Sept. 17, 1909, in Derry, a daughter of the late Charles and Minnie J. Kingsinger Pirl. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Derry. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Shrum; two sisters, Alice L. Pirl and Gladys Hanger; and two brothers, James and Charles Pirl. She is survived by her son, Richard C. and his wife, Marilynn Shrum, of Latrobe; her two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Barbara) DeWinter of Oregon and Mrs. William L. (Nancy L.) Rumshock of Greensburg; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry, where services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David D. Wilson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Coles Cemetery, Derry.

Shirley L. Spinella

Formerly of Laurelville
Shirley L. Spinella, 70, of Oliphant Furnace, formerly of Laurelville, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in her residence. Born June 16, 1931, in Jeannette, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Goldie Tresa McElfresh. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a nurse for Westmoreland Home Nursing. She was a member of Acme United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Robert Richard Miller and Edward Lee Miller of Johnstown; two daughters, Georgia Brown of Oliphant Furnace and Tammy Karbowski and husband, Mike, of New Stanton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her common-law husband, Jess Overly, in 1999. Friends will be received at the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., 730 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m., at which time her funeral service will begin with the Rev. Terry Trudgen officiating. Interment will be private.
