Nancy Spearel Rudy
Leaves daughter in Barrington

Nancy Spearel Rudy, 76, of Chatham, Mass., died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at her home. She was the wife of the late Dr. Leon C. Rudy. They had been married for 51 years.

She was born on May 15, 1928, in Marlboro, Mass., and grew up in Beaver Falls, N.Y.

At the age of 16, she volunteered as an enemy plan spotter in 1944 with great pride.

Mrs. Rudy attended Syracuse University, then graduated from Temple University in 1950, with a bachelors in speech and dramatic arts.

During the next 20 years, while in the military with her husband, she was busy volunteering for the Red Cross and the Cancer Society, traveling with her family, modeling, performing in local theater productions and being a loving mother.

Mrs. Rudy received the "Best Actress Award" in 1965 from the New England Theatre Conference Play Competition for her role as Katharina in Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew."

In 1970, she and her husband moved to Andover, Mass., where she began a 30-year career in real estate at The Victor Co., and J.B. Doherty and Associates.

In 1989, she and her husband accomplished their dream of moving to Chatham, which had always been their family's favorite vacation spot. There she continued her successful real estate career at Chatham Village Realty. Mrs. Rudy became further involved in the community through The Chatham Drama Guild and volunteering for Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod.

She enjoyed skiing, traveling, boating, theater, paddle tennis, everything about the ocean, long walks, good discussions and heartfelt talks.

She is survived by a son, Jeffrey C. Rudy of Metheun, Mass.; two daughters, Pamela R. McElroy of Barrington and Allyson Rudy of Deephaven, Minn.; a brother, Richard W. Spearel of Monument, Colo.; two sons-in-law; four grandsons; and loving companion Robert F. Zunzer.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 16 Cross St., Chatham, Mass., on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. At Mrs. Rudy's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1400, New York, N.Y. 10122, or The American Heart Association at www.americanheart.org

Francis E. McNamara
Portsmouth resident, worked for insurance agency

Frances E. (McKenna) McNamara, 84, formerly of 35 Linda Terrace,Portsmouth, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Forest Farm Health Care, in Middletown. She was the wife of the late George McNamara.

Born in Willimantic, Conn., in 1920, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances (Cypher) McKenna. She was a graduate of Milgrim Secretarial School.

Mrs. McNamara had worked at the Kirby Insurance Agency for 19 years until retiring in 1989, and had previously worked at the Lawton Hammett Insurance Agency.

During World War II, she worked in the supply department of the Naval Torpedo Station.

Mrs. McNamara was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church.

She enjoyed reading, music, dancing, jazz concerts and traveling.

She leaves a daughter, Donna Hull of Miami, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Brian "Randy" Hull of Coral Gables, Fla., and Kathleen Linton of Miami. She was the sister of the late Dr. John McKenna.

Her funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 3, at 9 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Rd., Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown.

Carl M. Annarummo
Served aboard USS Bristol

during World War II

Carl M. Annarummo, 84, of Bay View Avenue, Bristol, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center. He was the husband of the late Helen (Almeida) Annarummo.

Born in Scafati, Italy, a son of the late Antonio and Lucia Abbenante, he was a lifelong Bristol resident, moving here as an infant. He attended the Bristol schools.

He was a meat cutter for Stop and Shop for 25 years before retiring in 1986.

A United States Navy veteran, Mr. Annarummo served from 1943 to 1946 in Africa and the Mediterranean Sea aboard the destroyer USS Bristol. The ship participated in the landing at Salermo, Italy, but on Oct. 13, 1943, was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-Boat. Though Mr. Annarummo survived, 59 of the 209 crew members aboard were killed.

He was later assigned to the destroyer escort Chester T. O'Brien, supporting Australian troops out of the Philippines during their invasions of Java, Sumatra and Borneo.

Mr. Annarummo enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and also drove them to all of their events and loved it.

He leaves two sons, Carl Annarummo Jr. of Orlando Fla. and Paul Annarummo of Cranston; a daughter, Helen Motta of Bristol; four brothers, Nunzio and Pasquale Annarummo, both of Warren, Vincent Annarummo of Somerset, and Salvatore Annarummo of Rumford; five grandchildren, Amy and Carl Annarummo and Hilary, Nicholas and Alexander Motta; and five great-grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Louis and Anthony Annarummo and Lucy Silvia.

His funeral was on Saturday, Nov. 27, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, Bristol, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary Church. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bristol.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, 50 Maude St., Providence, RI 02908.

Angelina Teiseira
Lifelong resident, worked in manufacturing

Angelina Teiseira, 85, formerly of 231 Main St., died Saturday, Nov. 27, at Haven Health Center of Warren.

Born in Warren, a daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Freitas) Teixeira, she was a lifelong resident of the town.

Miss Teiseira had worked at the former Parker Mills as a battery hand for over 20 years. She also worked at R&J Manufacturing before retiring.

She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Warren.

She leaves a sister, Olive Eva of Tiverton; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary, Frank, Anna, Joseph and Antone Costa, Rose Cirillo, Eva Jacobson and Helen Teiseira.

Her funeral was on Tuesday, Nov. 30, from Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home in Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She was buried in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery.

Marion Grupp
Portsmouth resident, born in Germany

Marion Grupp, 98, of 420 Windstone Drive, Portsmouth, formerly of the John Clarke Retirement Center, Middletown, died on Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at home. She was the wife of the late George Grupp.

Born on Feb. 21, 1906, in Plochingen, Germany, a daughter of the late Fritz and Rose (Weyde) Hilde, she became a resident of Newport in 1933. She had previously lived in California for 30 years before returning to Aquidneck Island in 1994.

She leaves a daughter, Norma Susan Chevalier of Portsmouth; a sister, Anne Mundle in Germany; a granddaughter, Susan Petrie-Grassi, and a grandson, David Chevalier, both of Portsmouth; and four great-grandchildren.

Her burial ceremony will be held at a later date in Rowayton, Conn.

Jesse T. Medeiros
Braider operator,

Cup Defenders member

Jesse T. Medeiros, 81, of 5 Dunbar Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at the Eleanor Slater Hospital in Cranston. He was the husband of Florence (Souza) Medeiros.

Born in Portugal, he was a resident of Bristol for most of his life. Mr. Medeiros was a member of the Cup Defenders Association in Bristol.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Robert Medeiros of Warren, a daughter, Shirley Ann Medeiros of Bristol, and a brother, Manuel Medeiros of Monterey, Calif. He was the father of the late Jesse J. Medeiros and the brother of the late Anthony Medeiros and Mary Maciel.

Funeral services were private.

Gabriel J. Savino
World War II veteran

Gabriel J. Savino, 86, of Seekonk and formerly of Bristol, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of Evangeline (Estrella) Savino.

Born in Bristol, a son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Capone) Savino, he was a retired Guardsman, serving as a missile specialist in the Rhode Island Army National Guard in Foster for 30 years before retiring in 1977.

A United States Army veteran of World War II, he served as a 1st sergeant and received many medals before joining the National Guard.

Mr. Savino was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, in Cumberland. He enjoyed bowling and shooting. A skilled marksman, he was a member of a rifle team. He also loved spending time at the marina, and on his yacht on Narragansett Bay.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Joseph G. Savino of West Greenwich and Edward A. Savino of Glocester; two daughters, Luci Walker of Cary, N.C. and Marianne L. Menard of Coventry; a brother, Domenic Savino of Bristol; two sisters, Zena S. Trudell of Bristol and Rosanna S. Heisey of Boston; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Joseph Savino.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3 from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, State Street. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, South County Trail (Route 2), Exeter.

Maria C. Aguiar
Funeral services for Maria C. Aguiar were held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home. The Rev. Jose Rocha was the celebrant of the Mass. Granddaughters Monica and Emma deAguiar presented the offertory gifts.

Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, where Father Rocha offered the committal prayers. Pallbearers were grandsons Artur and Luis Aguiar and nephews Arthur Cabral, Nelson and Antonio Teixeira and Manuel Ferreira.

Mrs. Aguiar, 85, of Doran Avenue, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late Artur B. Aguiar.

Donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 275 Westminster St., Providence, RI 02903.

Byron B. Butterworth
Truck driver, often played Santa Claus

Byron B. Butterworth, 43, a long-time resident of Seekonk, died of A.L.S. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, in Boca Raton, Fla., at the home of his sister, Carol Hayward, with whom he had lived since January. He was the husband of Eva M. (Gagleone) Butterworth of East Providence.

Born in Providence, he was a son of John R. and Shirley (Monroe) Butterworth of Prudence Island.

Mr. Butterworth had worked for many years as a truck driver for various trucking firms.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Seekonk where he often played Santa Claus for Christmas time events.

Besides his wife, parents and sister, he leaves a daughter, Bryana Butterworth, and a step-son, Anthony Weeks, both of East Providence; three brothers, Robert Morse of Phoenix. Az., Mark Butterworth of Bristol, and Bruce Butterworth of Tiverton; a sister, Nancy Butterworth of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held in the spring.

Patricia Ann Cheatom
Loved to travel, play bingo

Patricia Ann (Mello) Cheatom, 65, of 56 Greenway Drive, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Henry C. and Frances (Marshall) Mello, she was a lifelong resident of Bristol.

Mrs. Cheatom was the owner and operator of P.J.'s Cleaners, at the Rhode Island Veterans' Home, for 25 years. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church's and a 1956 graduate of Colt Memorial High School.

An avid bingo player, she enjoyed traveling, especially to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and camping.

She leaves two sons, Daniel F. and Richard N. Cheatom, both of Bristol; three daughters, Virginia C. and Donna M. Cheatom, both of Bristol, and Elizabeth A. Sousa of Riverside; a brother, Henry C. Mello of Bristol; and six grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Frances L. Cheatom.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 30, from the Sansone Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial followed in St. Mary Cemetery.

Frank Q. Gillett
Army veteran of World War II

Frank Q. Gillett, 85, of East Providence, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at the Linn Health Care Center, East Providence. He was the husband of the late Marie S. (Arruda) Gillett.

He was born in Providence, a son of the late Ernest and Emily (Bryant) Gillett. He lived in East Providence most of his life.

He was a supervisor for the former Old Stone Bank in Providence for 29 years, retiring 24 years ago.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 83rd Infantry Division that invaded Normandy on D-Day. He was a member of the D.A.V. of East Providence.

He leaves a daughter, Carole Dawley of Providence; two sons, Kyle F. Gillett of Barrington and Kevin F. Gillett of Warwick; a brother, Fred Gillett of East Providence; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Florence Goff, Edna Dagenais and Albert Gillett.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.

Thomas E. Shaw
Born in Tiverton, W.W. II veteran

Thomas E. Shaw, 85, of 111 Borden Place East, Fall River, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Edna M. (Carreiro) Shaw.

Born in Tiverton, a son of the late Everett and Rose (Leama) Shaw, he had lived in Fall River for most of his life.

Mr. Shaw had been a shipper in the packer department of Otis Air Force Base for 22 years before retiring in 1979.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant.

Mr. Shaw was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Patricia A. Biello of Swansea and Geraldine M. Shaw of Fall River; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was the brother of the late Robert and James Shaw, Ella M. Koehler and Louise Carreiro.

His funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 30, at St. Mary's Cathedral, Fall River.
