SARAH A. HANNA - North Attleboro

SARAH A. HANNA, 84, of North Washington Street, a retired teacher, died Sunday at Madonna Manor Nursing Home.

She was the wife of the late Robert L. Hanna. Born in Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Robert and Sarah (Woods) Hoy, she had lived in Whitefish Bay, Wis., before moving to Attleboro and then North Attleboro.

Mrs. Hanna was a teacher in the Whitefish Bay school system for more than 20 years, retiring in 1980. She received a master's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin and was a graduate of Wisconsin State Teachers College. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.

She had attended Murray Unitarian Universalist Church in Attleboro. She had been a volunteer at the Milwaukee Home and the Lauback Literacy Center.

She leaves a daughter, Sarah H. McGill of Attleboro; a sister, Ann Hoy Schumacher of Lake Geneva, Wis.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late James Hoy, Elizabeth Hoy Thompson, Jane Hoy Englesman and Bess Hoy Babcock.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Commonwealth Chapel of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Attleboro Falls. Funeral services will also be held in Shorewood and Lake Geneva, both in Wisconsin. Burial will take place Aug. 21 in Brick Church Cemetery, Walworth, Wis.

WINIFRED MARY HASPREY of Manton Street - Fall River

WINIFRED MARY HASPREY of Manton Street, head administrative assistant with the Bristol County Superior Court for 51 years until she retired 2 years ago, died Sunday at St. Anne's Hospital on her 75th birthday. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late George J. and Winifred (Tripp) Hasprey.

A graduate of the former Thibodeau Business School, she began work in the court system before it become (sic) regionalized. In those early years, she was responsible for maintaining court records for Barnstable, Nantucket, Dukes and Bristol Counties.

She leaves two nephews, Daniel Pickering of Assonet and Edward Pickering of Little Compton, and a great-nephew, Jon Pickering of Fall River. She was the sister of the late Margaret Pickering, George F. Hasprey and John J. Hasprey.

The funeral will be held at 8 a.m. Friday from the Cherry Place Home of Waring-Sullivan, Ashton, Coughlin, Driscoll, 178 Winter St., followed by a funeral Mass at 9 in Holy Cross Church of SS Peter and Paul Parish, 47 Pulaski St. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

GABRIELLE DONOVAN - Fall River

GABRIELLE DONOVAN, 89, of 370 Stafford Rd., died Sunday at home. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Donovan. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late David L. and Antoinette (Genereux) Donovan.

She was a communicant of the former St. William's Church and was a member of its Women's Guild. She also was a member of the former King Phillip Settlement House.

She leaves three daughters, Gail Custadio of Dartmouth, Kathleen Ferreira of Somerset and Carol King of Gastonia, N.C.; a son, Maurice Donovan of Fall River; a brother, Thomas Roy of New Castle, N.H.; three sisters, Marie Babcock of Norwood, Jacqueline Thompson of Axtel, Neb., and Claudette Way of Eden Prarie, Minn.; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Andre, Raymond, Joseph, Auguste and David Roy, and Blanche Barek, Pauline Roy and Jeanne Osterman.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. from the A.F. Almeida & Son Funeral Home, 1309 Globe St., with a funeral Mass at 11:30 in Holy Trinity Church, Stafford Road. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

JOSEPHINE COLETTE MOGE - Fall River

JOSEPHINE COLETTE MOGE, 88, of Highland Avenue, also known as Sister Gabrielle Moge, SUSC, a Holy Union Sister and retired teacher, died Friday at Catholic Memorial Home.

Born in Cambridge, Mass., a daughter of the late Arthur and Josephine (Gabriau) Moge, she lived in Fall River for two years.

Sister Moge taught English and French in Catholic schools in Lawrence, Concord, and Groton, all in Massachusetts, as well as in Fall River and Pawtucket, before she retired to St. Mary's in North Attleboro in 1988.

She entered the Holy Union Community in 1931.

Besides her Community of Holy Union Sisters, she leaves a sister, Colette Griffin of Wakefield, Mass., and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Catholic Memorial Home Chapel, 2446 Highland Ave. Burial will take place Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

DIANE ANNETTE WEGLOWSKI - Fall River

DIANE ANNETTE WEGLOWSKI, 66, of Harding Street, a retired nurse, died Sunday at home after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Alphonse J. Weglowski. They were married for 43 years. A lifelong Fall River resident, she was a daughter of Annette (LeComte) Sorel of Somerset, and the late Roland Sorel.

A registered nurse, Mrs. Weglowski worked for the Community Development "Health First" Agency for more than 10 years, retiring last year, and had also been a labor and delivery room nurse at St. Anne's Hospital for 20 years. She was a 1954 graduate of St. Anne's Hospital School of Nursing and a member of the school's Alumni Association.

She was a communicant of Holy Name Church and a member of the Westport Yacht Club.

Besides her husband and mother, she leaves two daughters, Carole W. Fiola of Fall River and Nancy Sorel Magel of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; a son, Mark R. Weglowski of Wareham, Mass.; three sisters, her twin, Suzanne Morgan of Palm Gardens, Fla., Pauline Ready of Somerset, and Therese Holland of Tiverton; two brothers, Roland Sorel of Dunwoody, Ga., and Roger Sorel of Norcross, Ga.; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from Jeffrey E. Sullivan Funeral Home, 550 Locust St., with a funeral Mass at 10 in Holy Name Church, Hanover Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

STEPHEN J. SOREL - Fall River

STEPHEN J. SOREL, 58, of Stanford Street, a retired broadcast engineer, died yesterday at Rose Hawthorne Lathrop Home.

He was the former husband of Gail (Harrop) Sorel Zurawski of Swansea. A lifelong Fall River resident, he was the son of the late Roderick and Gladys (Gaffney) Sorel.

Mr. Sorel worked for WJAR Channel 10 for more than 21 years, retiring in 1998, and had also worked at several area radio stations including WSNE and WJAR AM 920, both in Providence. He had been a contract engineer at WBSM AM 1420 in New Bedford and several other radio stations including Citadel Broadcasting in East Providence.

He was a member of the Fall River Amateur Radio Club and the former Somerset Amateur Radio Club. Mr. Sorel was a longtime member of the Quequechan Sports Car Club.

Besides his former wife, he leaves a daughter, Jennifer Buker, and four grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m. in Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Cremation will follow.

MARGARET D'ANTONINO - Cranston

MARGARET D'ANTONINO, 96, of East Street, died Sunday at Harborside-Pawtuxet Village Health Care Center, Warwick.

She was the wife of the late Guiseppe D'Antonino. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Martha (DiRocco) Buglio. She leaves a daughter, Jennie M. Lupino of Warwick; a sister, Frances Pacheco of Barrington; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was the mother of the late Harry D'Antonino and sister of the late Guido and Edward Buglio.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from "Woodlawn," 600 Pontiac Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Spruce Street, Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery.

LUCY MARY CARDILLO - Cranston

LUCY MARY CARDILLO, 84, of Hillcrest Drive North, a retired hairdresser, died Sunday at home.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Zenophile and Lucy (Pettine) Tetreault, she lived in Cranston for many years.

Mrs. Cardillo was a self-employed hairdresser for many years until she retired.

She leaves a daughter, Sandra Gendron, with whom she lived; a son, Felton Cardillo of West Greenwich; and a granddaughter, Nicia Ventetuole of Johnston. She was the sister of the late Alvire Ferry.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Road, Johnston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery.

RUTH A. TAYLOR-BRIGGS - Coventry

RUTH A. TAYLOR-BRIGGS, 81, a former keypunch operator, died Sunday at Coventry Health Center. She was the wife of Floyd K. Briggs of Oak Hill, Fla. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Paul and Gladys (David) Chase, she had lived in Oak Hill, Fla., before moving to Coventry two years ago.

Mrs. Briggs was an IBM keypunch operator at Quonset Point for 16 years until it closed in 1972. She had been a nurse's aide at Kent County Memorial Hospital for several years and had also worked at the former Davol Rubber Co., Providence, for several years.

She had been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Oak Hill. She was an auxiliary member of American Legion Post 43, Warwick, and American Legion Post 8894, Edgewater, Fla., and was also a member of the West Shore Imperial Drum and Bugle Corps.

Besides her husband, she leaves a son, George W. Wilson Jr. of Warwick; and two daughters, Linda A. Sullivan of Kingston and Donna E. Aldridge of Flagler Beach, Fla.

The funeral service will be held tonight at 8 p.m. in Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Burial will be private.
