AIRIEN M. WASHINGTON

Graveside services for Airien Myasia Washington, infant daughter of Kerton and Miliettala Williams Washington, will be at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in Nazareth Apostolic Church Cemetery with Bishop Vera M. Davis, officiating. Services have been entrusted to Young & Young Funeral Home. Airien died Sunday in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. Surviving, other than her father and mother of Hartsville, are a sister, Ava Tanee Washington of Hartsville; maternal grandparents, Henry Williams Jr. and Ricky and Margie McDonald of Hartsville; maternal grandmother, Lila Mae Dixon; maternal great-grandparents, Henry and Eloise Williams Sr., all of Hartsville; paternal grandparents, Curtis and Jackie Washington; paternal great-grandmother, Lilian Alford, all of Hartsville; paternal great-grandparents, Earline Washington and God mother, Beulah Ann Mumford, also of Hartsville.

AARON I. WASHINGTON

Graveside services for Aaron Isiah Washington, infant son of Kerton and Miliettala Williams Washington, will be at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in Nazareth Apostolic Church Cemetery with Bishop Vera M. Surviving other than his father and mother of Hartsville, are a sister, Ava Tanee Washington of Hartsville; maternal grandparents, Henry Williams Jr. and Ricky and Margie McDonald of Hartsville; maternal grandmother, Lila Mae Dixon; maternal great-grandparents, Henry and Eloise Williams Sr., all of Hartsville; paternal grandparents, Curtis and Jackie Washington; paternal great-grandmother, Lilian Alford of Hartsville; paternal great-grandparents, Earline Washington and God mother, Beulah Ann Mumford, also of Hartsville.

JOSEPH L. MARTIN

Memorial services for Joseph Leslie Martin, 61, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Alexander Davis officiating, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home. Mr. Martin died Sunday in a New York City Hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late James and Amanda Martin. He was educated in Darlington County public schools. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Martin of Queens, N.Y.; two daughters, Sharon Martin of Hartsville and Amanda Stevenson of Baltimore, Md.; a son, Joseph Martin of Manhattan, N.Y.; two sisters, Carolyn Martin of Hartsville and Sandra Martin Dickey of New York City, N.Y.; two brothers, Carl Martin of Hartsville and James Martin Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two aunts, Josie Gibson of Hartsville and Alice Sebastian of Bronx, N.Y.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

EDWARD E. ROBINSON

DARLINGTON - Services for Edward E. "Red" Robinson, 69, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 6, 2000, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Lake Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. Mr. Robinson died Wednesday, Oct. 4. He was born in York County, the son of the late Baxter and Ruby Hutson Robinson. He was an employee of Sav-Way for a number of years and attended Faith Free Will Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Gandy Robinson of the home; a son, Alan Robinson of Darlington; two grandchildren, Jeff and Michael Robinson, and three brothers, Jerry Robinson and Ronald Robinson, both of Florence, and Richard Robinson of Timmonsville.

KATHLEEN K. BISCHOFF

DARLINGTON - Services for Kathleen Kay Bischoff, 93, were held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Trinity United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Tim Rogers and Dr. Olin Whitener and directed by Belk Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 6, at Westivew Cemetery, Walhalla, S.C., conducted by the Rev. Mike Cox and directed by Davenport Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Druid Hills United Methodist Church, 1200 Ponce De Leon Ave. NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30306, or Trinity United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 16, Darlington, S.C. 29540. Mrs. Bischoff, widow of Frederick C. Bischoff Jr., died Tuesday evening, Oct. 3, in Wilson Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Walhalla, she was the daughter of the late William M. Kay and Exia Dilworth Kay. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and was a retired school teacher. A resident of Atlanta for 40 years before moving to Darlington in 1992, Mrs. Bischoff was a member of Druid Hills United Methodist Church, an honorary lifetime member of the United Methodist Women and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Surviving are a son, Frederick C. Bischoff III of Darlington; nephews, John Kay of Greer, Douglas K. Seaborn of Pensacola, Fla. and G. W. Seaborn of Williamston, S.C.; nieces, Kathleen Kay Lightsey of Columbia and Mary Kay Rickenbaker of Belton, S.C.

DIANNE B. BLAKNEY

Mrs. Dianne B. Blakney died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2000, in McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. Funeral arrangements to be announced by Hines Funeral Home.

Services for Dianne B. Blakney were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel with burial in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home. Mrs. Blakney died Tuesday, Oct. 3. Born in Hartsville, she was the daughter of the late John and Maggie Mack Bristow. She was educated in the public schools and attended Butler High School. She was married to Edward Blakney. Survivors are her husband, Edward Blakney; two sons, Curray Bristow of Smithfield, N.C., and Morris (Christine) Bristow of Hartsville; five brothers, Purvis Bristow of Four Oaks, N.C., George (Linda) Bristow of Smithfield, N.C., Kenneth (Jurea) Bristow of Newton Grove, N.C., John Wesley (Stephanie) Bristow of Fort Sill, Okla., Christopher Bristow of Hartsville; two sisters, Angela (Steven) Jackson of Hartsville and Mary Smith of Smithfield, N.C., and six grandchildren.

META CALCUTT

Services for Meta Jones Calcutt, 92, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at the First Baptist Church of Conway. The Rev. J. Anderson Bass will officiate with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the parlor of First Baptist Church in Conway. Memorials may be made to the Willie Saleeby Scholarship Fund at Coker College, 300 E. College Ave., Hartsville. Mrs. Calcutt, widow of William Cleve Calcutt, died Monday, Oct. 9. Born in Pamplico, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Calvin Sebastian and Dovie Hanna Jones. She was a long time resident of Conway and a member of the First Baptist Church of Conway, WMU, Eunice Sunday School Class, Sewing Ministry, and a former GA’s teacher. She was a member of the Iris Garden Club. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Willie and Edward E. Saleeby Sr. of Hartsville; a sister, Della Coleman of Olanta, S.C.; three grandchildren, Edward E. Saleeby Jr., Kay Bouknight and Holly Atkins; and four great-grandsons.

JOHN R. RIVERS

Services for John Rochel Rivers, 53, were held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at North Hartsville Baptist Church. The Revs. Leslie Floyd and Buck Gulledge officiated with burial in Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery, Chester-field, S.C., directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 123 Westover Dr., Hartsville, S.C. 29550. Law enforcement officers from the City of Hartsville Police Department and the Darling-ton and Chesterfield County sheriff’s departments will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Rivers died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000. Born in Chester-field County, he was a son of Doris Odom Rivers and the late Jack O. Rivers. He was a life-long law enforcement officer with the over 25 years of service. He was a sergeant with the City of Hartsville Police Department and previously was a deputy sheriff with Chesterfield County. Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Rivers of Hartsville, his mother of Chesterfield, sons and daughter-in-law, Shon L. Rivers of Myrtle Beach, and John R. and Angie Rivers Jr. of Hartsville; two daughters, Bridgette Jordan McLeod and Amanda Donette Rivers, both of Hartsville; two step-sons, Jason McLeod and Wayne McLeod of Hartsville; three brothers, William J. "Bill" Rivers of Columbia, Jack O. "Jackie" Rivers Jr. and Randy J. Rivers, both of Chesterfield; five sisters, Joy Farmer of Cheraw, Mary McLain and Polly McLain, both of Patrick, Joan Melton and Alice Copeland, both of Chesterfield; a grandson, Noah Rivers, and a mother-in-law, Shelby Jean Rivers of Hartsville.

DAVID JOHNSON SR.

Services for David Johnson Sr. were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Edward J. Squire, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson died Friday, Oct. 6, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. He was born in Lee County, a son of the late Laurie and Beatrice Prescott Johnson. He first attended Darlington County public schools; after moving his family back to Bishopville, he continued in Lee County public schools. He was married early in life to the late Mattie Taylor Johnson and this marriage was blessed with six children, all of whom survive him. He worked for more than 40 years with Sonoco Products Company and retired in 1992. He was a self-taught mechanic and enjoyed maintaining his, his family’s and his friends’ cars. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors are four daughters, Louise Addison, Josephine Johnson and Frances (Jamie) Bryant, all of Hartsville and Christine (Willie) Moore of Durham, N.C.; three sons, David (Shirley) Johnson Jr. and Antonio (Ann) Johnson, both of Hartsville and Johnny Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Winnie (James) Farmer of Hartsville, Robbie Lee (George) Jackson and Barbara Adam, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; five brothers, Moses Johnson, Elijah Johnson, Hoover (Connie) Johnson and William Johnson, all of Philadelphia, Pa., and Levi (Grover Mae) Johnson of Hartsville; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Channie Taylor of Hartsville; brother-in-law, Jasper Taylor Charlotte, N.C.; a special friend, Gerthenia Ings of Hartsville, and an adopted daughter, Rosa Muldrow.
