LOIS CLANTON
LYDIA - Services for Lois Adams Clanton, 90, of Augusta, Ga., formerly of Lydia, were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Mt. Elon Baptist Church with the Rev. Art Zawislak, officiating, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Hospice of Augusta, Ga. 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30904-4726.

Mrs. Clanton, widow of Floyd Clanton, died Wednesday, Nov. 22. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late James Clarence and Rosa DuBose Adams. For many years she was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church and director of the Junior Department and was the assistant postmaster of the Lydia Post Office. After moving to Columbia, she was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church and was also active in the Columbia Council on Aging.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca C. and Ray Moore of N. Augusta; sister, Christine Holland of Florence; grandchildren, Nancy Moore Hall of Columbia, Susan Moore Laywell of N. Augusta, S.C. and two great-grandchildren.

DELIA HELMS
Services for Delia McManus Helms, 103, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Kenneth Hood and the Rev. Paul Sowell, officiated with burial in Magnolia Cemetery.

Mrs. Helms, widow of W. T. Langley and J. Lex Helms, died Saturday, Nov. 25. Born in Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late John and Frances Doster McManus. She was the oldest member of Fourth Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Virginia Langley of Hartsville, Jewel and W. H. Mullins of Hartsville and Mary Alice Dial of Columbia; a brother, Haskel McManus of Monroe, N.C.; a sister, Gertrude Williams of Monroe, N.C.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

BLONDIE E. HINES
Blondie Evans Hines, 86, of New York City, formerly of Lamar, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in a New York City nursing home after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville. She was the mother of Rev. Willie Hines and the wife of the late Willie Hines Sr.

JAMES THOMAS
Services for James Thomas, 60, were held at 2 pm. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Memorial Chapel with Elder Nero Benjamin, officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Thomas died Friday, Nov. 19, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Annie Mae Cooks and James Thomas Sr. He received his education in Darlington County public schools. At an early age he attended Centerville A.M.E. Church, where he sang on the Gospel Choir and later attended The Household of Faith Church in Cheraw, where he enjoyed singing with the Mass Choir. Mr. Thomas was employed with the Hartsville Oil Mill where he worked for 25 years. He also enjoyed working at Small's Service Station. But his love was working in his garden, planting and selling his produce.

Surviving other than his mother of Hartsville and father of Darlington are his wife, Lula Mae Thomas of Hartsville; three daughters, Velvet (Calvin) Prescott and Annie Mae (Lee) Thomas, both of Hartsville and Nora (George) Fore of North Myrtle Beach; a son, Willie James (Debra Ann) Thomas of Hartsville; four sisters, Mary Ann Brooks of Darlington, Jo Ann T. Jones and Sara T. Dennis, both of Patterson, N.J. and Barbara T. Rivers of Columbia; a brother, Cecil Thomas of Darlington; three aunts, Grace Williams of Hartsville, Nancy Hamm of Darlington and Viola Davis of Petersburg, Va.; a uncle, Augusta Cooks of Hartsville; five grandchildren and three God grandchildren.

MARTIA MARTIN
Services for Martia Martin were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000 in Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martin, 83, died Sunday, Nov. 19, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late James and Maggie Holloway Campbell. She received her education in Darlington County public schools and was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Pauline Summers of Hartsville and Chessie Lee Dumas of Atlanta, Ga.; three sons, Luke Martin, Willie Lee Martin and Heyward Martin, all of Hartsville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

RUBIN JOHNSON
MT. CROGHAN, SC - Services for Rubin Johnson, 76, will be held at 2 pm. today, Nov. 29, 2000, at Fairview Baptist Church in Mt. Croghan, S.C. with interment in the church Cemetery, directed by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, Rt. 1, Box 1778, Mt. Croghan, S.C. 29727. Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Nov. 26. He was born in Kershaw County, a son of the late Lee Roy and Mollie Phillips Johnson. He was a retired farmer and employee of Springs Industries in Lancaster with 41 years of service. Mr. Johnson was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tressie Lee Johnson, four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Tressie Mills Johnson of the home; four sons, Orie Johnson of Hartsville, Thomas Johnson and Ricky Johnson, both of Lancaster and Jerry Johnson of Mt. Croghan; one brother, Hubert Johnson of Lancaster; five sisters, Ethel Lee (Babe) Catledge of Kershaw, Thelma (Bob) Oliver of Jefferson, Evelyn (Hun) Williams of Lancaster, Alice Cato of Heath Springs, S.C. and Ruth Mathis of Chester; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

RONALD MATHESON
Memorial services for Ronald McKenzie Matheson, 89, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the Bethea Baptist Home in Darlington, with the Rev. Henry Yarborough officiating, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home in charge. Memorials may be made to the Bethea Baptist Home, Box 4000, Darlington, S.C. 29540.

Mr. Matheson, widower of Orel Vickers, died Thursday, Nov. 23. Born in Marlboro County, he was a son of the late Ronald McKenzie and Elma Stanley Matheson Sr. He began his retailing career as an executive with the Roses Stores chain, managing stores in various locations in the Carolinas, especially in Chapel Hill, N.C. During World War II, he joined the U.S. Civil Service and became a senior executive in charge of establishing and operating U. S. military Post Exchange Stores. He spent ten years in Germany establishing a chain of these department stores that serviced U.S. military personnel in the U.S. and Europe. He later returned to Chapel Hill and was a retail manager with Huggins Hardware until his retirement.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Joyce M. and Larry C. Baucom of Great Falls, Va.; and two grandchildren.

DOROTHY MARKLE
Graveside services for Dorothy Hall Markle, 75, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in Colfax Cemetery, Bad Axe, Mich. Memorial services will be held later at the Carriage House, Hartsville with Brown-Pennington-Atkins in charge. Memorials may be made to American Bible Society, Box 98011, Washington, DC 20090-8011 or Lottie Moon Offering at Lakeview Baptist Church, 202 Lakeview Blvd., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Markle died Friday, Nov. 24. Born in Detroit, Mich., she was a daughter of the late Floyd H. and Elizabeth Pollock Hall. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, Hartsville, and was a former resident of Bad Axe, Mich. She began her career as a telephone operator in the days when the operator rode roller skates to make telephone connections. She retired with 40 years of service from Michigan Bell. Her poetry was enjoyed by her family, friends and church communities in Michigan, North and South Carolina.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, David and Faith Markle of Hartsville; two brothers, Harvey 'Bud' Hall of Lachine Mich., James Hall of Port Hope, Mich; two sisters, Lillian McMullen of Big Rapids, Mich., Betty Severance of Orange, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Charis Markle, Alyssa Markle, Grayson Markle, Israel Markle and Christian Markle.

LOUISE LLOYD
Services for Louise Register Lloyd, 79, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in Elim United Methodist Church with burial following in the church Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lloyd died Wednesday, Nov. 22, at her residence. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Ernest Edie and Lila Richardson Register. She was married to the late Matthew 'Mack' Lloyd. She was a faithful member of Elim United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Sunday School Class.

Surviving are three sons, Fred (Peggy) Lloyd, Gerald (Connie) Lloyd, and Richard Lloyd, all of Hartsville; a daughter, Mrs. Farrell (Linda) Clements of Florence; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grands and one great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Mrs. J. E. (Doris) Hatchell of Hartsville, Mrs. Bernice Wallace of Sumter, Mrs. Evert (Joyce) Larid of Cayce and Eunice Mixon of Sumter; and one brother, Herbert J. Register of Moncks Corner. Memorials may be made to Elim United Methodist Church c/o Muryl Gardner, 3586 Oates Hwy., Lamar, S.C. 29069.

SALLY McKINNON
Memorial services for Sally Luke McKinnon, 85, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Nov. 29, 2000, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Alan Arnold, officiating, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her grandson's memorial scholarship fund, Stephen A. Morrell Scholarship, The Citadel Brigadier Foundation, MSC 26, The Citadel, Charleston, SC 29409 or the First Presbyterian Church, 213 W. Home Ave., Hartsville, S.C. 29550.

Mrs. McKinnon, widow of Murray McKinnon, died Sunday, Nov. 26. Born in West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Della Heard Luke. She attended Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. She was a long time employee of Coker's Department Store in Hartsville and was retired from Field Enterprises, Inc. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a well known watercolorist, continuing to paint until her death.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Murray Smith and Ann Watts McKinnon of Murrells Inlet, daughters and sons-in-law, Carroll McKinnon and Robert Milton Morrell of Lincolnton, N.C., Margaret McKinnon and Wayne Collins Harris of Columbia; sister, Hazel Plant of Largo, Fla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

AGATHA W. OWENS
LAMAR - Services for Nobie Agatha Weaver Owens, 99, of Lamar, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Lamar Pentecostal Holiness Church with interment following at 3:30 p.m. in Owens Family Cemetery near Goldsboro, N.C., directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel.

Mrs. Owens, wife of the late John Andrews Owens, died Sunday morning, Nov. 26, in a Hartsville nursing home after an illness. She was born in Florence County, the daughter of the late Willie Gordon and Maude Windham Weaver. She was a member of Lamar Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are two sons, Eric Owens of Garland, Texas and Marion Owens of Kinston, N.C.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Willie 'Bill' Grimes of Pikeville, N.C. and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by two children, Buddy Owens and Virginia Aycock.

EULA D. SANDERS
FLORENCE - Services for Eula Dubose Sanders were held at 3 p.m. Nov. 15, 2000, in Lamar Church of God with the Rev. Levern Kirkland Sr., pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sanders died Friday, Nov. 10, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Ed and Bessie Andrews Dubose. She received her formal education in Lee and Darlington County public school. At an early age, she joined Sandy Grove Methodist Church in Lamar. After marriage, she lived in New York City for a number of years where she was a member of the Church of God and served on the Young Adult Choir, the Senior Choir and Secretary of the Ever Ready Club. She was employed for a number of years at Talon Zipper Company of New York until her retirement. In 1979, she and her husband relocated to Florence. She then joined Lee Street Church of God, New Town Community Church of God and finally, Lamar Church of God where she served until her passing. In South Carolina, she was employed as a nursing assistant at Darlington Hospital in the newborn department and as a cook at the Donut Dinette in Florence.

Survivors include her devoted family, her husband of 57 years, Palmer Sanders of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon (Bennie L.) Boston of Darlington; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Donnie D. Davis of Baltimore, Md. and Mrs. Gloria Balla of East Orange, N.J.; two brothers, Noressis 'Dock' (Kath-leen) Dubose and Asbury Washing-ton, both of Florence; two sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins.

OZELL ENOCH
DARLINGTON - Services for Ozell Enoch, 91, were held at 11 a.m Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in Lee Street Church of God with the Rev. Jerome Peters, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Sandy Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.

Mr. Enoch died Tuesday, Nov. 21, at a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Lee County (Lamar) a son of the late Willie and Novella Robinson Enoch. He attended the Lee County public schools and Butler High School in Hartsville. As a youngster, he grew up and attended Sandy Grove United Methodist Church in Lamar. Mr. Enoch lived in Bronx and St. Albany, New York for a number of years, where he was owner of a mechanic business and Enoch's Service Station. He retired from Central Park Division in New York City. In 1973, he and his wife moved to Darlington, where he joined the Lee Street Church of God. There, he served as Deacon, president of the Brotherhood and a member of the male chorus. In the community, he served with the Prison Ministry and past president of the Cemetery Committee.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 66 years, Mrs. Carlotta M. Enoch of the home; daughter, Ms. Vanessa Enoch Sansbury; two grandchildren, Maria and Ozell Sansbury, all of Darlington; a great-grandson, a special son, Willie 'Brother' Benjamin of Lamar; four special grandchildren, two aunts, Mrs. Minor Glass of Manhattan, N.Y. and Mrs.Ruth Robinson of Hartsville; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Cornelia M. McCullough of Darling-ton; nieces, nephews and cousins.
