JAMES L. HAM
LAMAR – Graveside services for James Lavern Ham, 71, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, in Lamar Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel. The family will receive friends tonight, from 6:30-8:30 at the funeral home.
Mr. Ham died Tuesday morning in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in York County, the son of the late Henry Leon Ham and Beulah Jordan Ham Watford. He worked for DuPont for a number of years and was a farmer. Mr. Ham was a member of Lamar First Baptist Church and was a Mason, Shriner and an avid fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Northcutt Ham of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jimmy L. and Deborah Ham of Lamar and Robbie Ham of Lamar; three grandchildren, Kari, Kristen and Rob Ham; two sisters, Dorothy Veasey of Aiken and Mary Goodson of Georgia; one brother, Roy Ham of Columbia; and a special friend, Guy Bell of Lamar. Mr. Harm was preceded in death by a brother, H. L. Ham Jr.

MOSES PETTIGREW
LAMAR – Services for Moses Pettigrew were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at the Barbara J. Hines Memorial Chapel, Lamar, with burial at the Wesley Chapel U.M.C. Cemetery, professional services entrusted to Hines Funeral Home, Inc.
Mr. Pettigrew was born in Lamar, a son of the late Belar and Edell Pettigrew. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated with the Spaulding High School Class of 1961.
Survivors include his wife, Madonia Dixson Pettigrew of Columbia; three daughters, Marvelyn (Robert) DeVaull of Duluth, Ga., Angela (Harmon) McCoy of Columbia, and Sharon Pettigrew of Detroit, Mich.; two sons, Gregory Bernard Pettigrew of Lamar and Christopher Pettigrew of New York, N.Y.; six sisters, Mary Smith of Tucker, Ga. Helen (Richard) Prescott of Paterson, N.J., Geraldine McAlester of Baltimore, Md., Wilma (Frank) Dargan of Lamar, Rosa Mae (Conrad) Mills of Teaneck, N.J.; two brothers, David (Rose Ann) Pettigrew of Queens, N.Y., and Walter (Louise) Pettigrew; and 15 grandchildren.

EDWIN SOMPAYRAC
SOCIETY HILL – Graveside services for Edwin Sompayrac, 70, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, in Welsh Neck Baptist Church Cemetery with Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Sompayrac, widower of Sue Redding Sompayrac, died Wednesday, Dec. 6. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Lawrence Hewitt and Virgie Anderson Sompayrac. He was a graduate of Clemson University and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired.
Surviving are his sons, Edwin Rand Sompayrac of Fredericksburg, Va.; sister, Ann Anderson of Florence, and six grandchildren.

EVA H. GALLOWAY
Services for Eva Harding Galloway, 89, were held at 11:15 Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. James E. Beck Jr. and the Rev. Hazel Mixon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Galloway, widow of Will Galloway, died Friday, Dec. 29. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher and Ada Rogers Harding. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are thee daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Clanton and Mrs. Silveree Gilbert, both of Hartsville, and Mrs. Ernestleen Matuse of Winnsboro; one son, Harvey Galloway Sr. of Hartsville; one sister, Louise Flowers of Hartsville; two brothers, Bennie Harding of Hartsville and Jennings Harding of Darlington; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

MARY A. BREWER
Services for Mary Alice Brewer were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Antioch Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brewer died Thursday, Dec. 28, at her home. She was born in Kershaw on March 7, 1931, the daughter of the late Hanna Dixon. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and attended Kershaw public schools.
She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Elizabeth Wylie of Queens, N.Y.; one son, Amos Brewer of Long Island, N.Y.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one very special friend and companion, Mr. Maudie Phillips.

ROBERT W. HURSEY
DARLINGTON – Services for Robert William Hursey, 63, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 3, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Hursey died Sunday, Dec. 31, in a Florence hospital. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late William W. and Lillian Andrews Hursey. He served with the United States National Guard for 21 years. He retired from American Can Company and then founded Sanglo Auto Glass of Florence. Mr. Hursey was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Inez King Hursey of Darlington; two sons, Mark F. Hursey and Robert T. (Bert) Hursey, both of Darlington. Mr. Hursey was preceded in death by three brothers, Dr. Andrew H. Hursey, Wilburn W. Hursey and John Randolph Hursey, and a sister, Margie H. Poston.

BEATRICE CAMPBELL
Services for Beatrice Campbell, 83, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Kay Branch Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Campbell died Friday, Dec. 29, in Morrell Convalescent Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Ernest and Retha Richardson Campbell. She received her education in Darlington County public schools and was a member of Kay Branch Missionary Baptist Church and the Northside Gardner Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy Campbell Bigard of New Haven, Conn.; two sons, James Campbell of Hartsville and Robert Campbell of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Ludwell Campbell of Hartsville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

HENRY LEE CARTER
DARLINGTON – Services for Henry Lee Carter, 64, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in the Harold L. and Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial was in the New Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Young & Young Home of Hartsville.
Mr. Carter died Tuesday, Dec. 26, at his Darlington residence after an illness. He was born on April 21, 1936, in Darlington County, a son of the late Wash and Veda Mae Ford Carter. He received his education in Darlington County public schools. Mr. Carter was united in holy matrimony to the late Maebell Benjamin Carter. He was retired from Clanton Auto Sales. He loved to fish, play cards, and socialize with people. Mr. Carter later in life moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he was united with Louise Bennett Carter.
He leaves to cherish his memories six daughters, Nae Dean (William) Zimmerman, Sylvia (Harry Lee) James of Darlington, Angela (Arthur) Carter, Charlena (Haskell) Carter, both of Springlake, N.C., Ruby Lee Carter of Connecticut, and Ann Bennett of Brooklyn, N.Y; four sons, Howard (Angelika) Benjamin of Frankfort, Germany, Henry (Shirley) Carter Jr. of Jacksonville, N.C., Terry (Peggy) Carter of Darlington; Donald Carter of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Reatha Mae Jones of Brooklyn, N. Y., Lida Anne Sampson of Patterson, N.J.; three brothers, Ervin, Leonard and Elijah Carter, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 26 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; five brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; two aunts; two uncles; two special friends, Nathen Redden and Clarence Tillar; a host of nieces, nephews, other close relative and friends.

LEOLA HARRIS
Services for Leola "Dood" Harris were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, the Rev. Dwight Nelson, pastor. Burial was in the church cemetery with professional services entrusted to Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harris was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late John and Marie Garner Bolden. She was educated in the public schools and worked as a farmer most of her adult life. She was married to the late Offie Harris and to this union eight children were born. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she served as the president of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her children; seven daughters, Mary Ann Bryant of Hartsville, Anna Bryant of McBee, Minnie L. Harris, Marie Smith and Annie Cotman, all of New York, N.Y., Viola Harris and Sylvia Magazine, both of Bishopville; one son, David Harris of Bethune; 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

CORA G. KING
Services for Cora Gatlin King, 97, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mike Lupo officiated with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. King, widow of Lonnie King, died Friday, Dec. 29. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Rebecca Lyles Gatlin. She was a member of Savannah Advent Christian Church. Surviving is her daughter, Louise K. King, of Surfside Beach.
