RETHA G. ALLEN
Services for Retha Geraldine Allen will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Edward J. Squire, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence, 1927 Blanding Drive. Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 9, in the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Allen was born in rural Hartsville community, a daughter of the late Jerry and Ophelia Pearson Johnson. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County, graduating from Butler High School, class of 1967. After high school she married Johnnie Allen Jr. and this union was blessed with two children, both of whom survive her. Geraldine worked in the health care profession for many years as a registered nurse. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she served as president of the Missionary Society, Sunday School teacher, and founder of the church's Nursing Unit. She also was a member of the Publicity Committee, Butler Heritage Foundation, Butler Alumni Association, and Hamilton United Order of Tent.

Survivors are her husband, Johnnie Allen Jr. of the home; a daughter, Tonya Renee Allen of Hartsville; a son, Richard Bernard Allen of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, Jerry Alvin Johnson of Hartsville; five sisters, Alma Johnson Fuller, Dorothy Johnson and Ruth Johnson, all of Philadelphia, Pa., Eunice Rowena Johnson of Hartsville and Sylvia 'Bert' Johnson Rogers of Lydia; and seven grandchildren.

HARRY A. BLACKMON
DARLINGTON - Services for Harry Arthur Blackmon, 69, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2001, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. Mr. Blackmon died Thursday, June 8, at his residence after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, the son of the late Royce E. Sr. and Mattie Brown Blackmon. He retired in 1974 after having served his country for 27 years in the US Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Blackmon was employed by the Security Forces at Wellman Industries and was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Lou Morris Blackmon of the home; three brothers, Royce E. Blackmon Jr. of Tennessee, and Heyward (Ada) Blackmon and Charles (Judy) Blackmon, both of Darlington; one sister, Mrs. Lee (Gerry B.) Rector of Key Largo, Fla. and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 tonight, June 8, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church Building Fund, 210 South Main St., Darlington, SC 29532 or to Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Darlington, SC 29506.

NICOLE L. GODIN
DARLINGTON - Memorial services for Nicole Lynn Godin, 19, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home.

Miss Godin died Wednesday, June 6, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born in Danberry, Conn., the daughter of Kevin Godin and Violet Searles Godin. She attended Darlington High School and was presently employed with Quincy's Family Steakhouse in Florence.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a brother, Dennis Godin of Woodberry, Conn.; her grandparents of Connecticut; and the Schatz family of Florence.

KATHERINE R. CALSMAN
Funeral services for Katherine Rogers Calsman, 84, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001, at New Market United Methodist Church. The Revs. Larry Brown and Darryl Bogatay officiated with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Calsman, widow of Edward Calsman, died Friday, June 8, 2001. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Nona Caddell Rogers. She was a lifetime member of New Market United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Joe Tumbleston of Hartsville; brother, Bo Rogers of Hartsville; sisters, Frances Payne, Myrtle Moore, Mae Howard, and Nita Peavy, all of Hartsville; grandchildren and spouses, Tammy and Dickie White of Hartsville, and Bill and Carol Kirven of Conway; great-grandchildren, Austin White, Landon White, and Kaylee White.

She was predeceased by a son, James Edward Calsman; sisters, Betty Howard and Gladys Lane; and brothers, John Rogers and Robert Rogers.

ISAAC MAYSHACK
Services for Isaac "Shack" Mayshack were held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2001, in Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel with Bro. Charles Makins officiating. Burial was in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Hines Funeral Home.

Mr. Mayshack died Friday, June 8. He was born in the Carterville Community of Darlington County, a son of the late Willie and Girlena Gilmore Mayshack and was educated in the public schools. He was employed with Sonoco Paper Products Co. with tenure of more than 42 years before his retirement on July 31, 1987. "Ike, " as he was called by many, was married to Johnnie Lee Giles, and this union was blessed with one daughter, who survives him. He was a member of the Church of God of Hartsville where he served as church treasurer.

Survivors are his wife, Johnnie Lee Mayshack of Hartsville; a daughter, Rose Ann (Claudie) Shelton of Frederick, Md.; five brothers, Daniel (Dozell) Mayshack, Malichi (Marie) Mashack and Charles (Mae) Mayshack, all of Hartsville, Thomas (Dorothy) Mayshack of Willingboro, N.J., and Aaron (Marion) Mashack of Austell, Ga.; three sisters, Adena (Charlie) Harrison of Bennettsville, Girlena Jackson of Hartsville and Mary Ann (Alpha) Philmon of Hendersonville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Isaac Shelton, Marcus Shelton, Kwasi Pecou, Fahamu Pecou, Nefateri (Alex) Coe and Namibia (Horace) Jones; and five great-grandchildren.

MACK PETERSON
Mack Peterson, 58, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at his residence after an apparent heart attack. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

TION JOHNSON
Tion Johnson, 24, died Monday, June 11, in McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness.

Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

BETTY STOKES
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mrs. Betty Stokes, 61, formerly of Hartsville, died on Monday, June 11, 2001, at her home after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Louise Vinson of 628 Commanche St.

ION UNGUREANU
Graveside services for Ion Ungureanu, 47, who died on March 14, 2001, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at Old St. David's Cemetery in Cheraw, directed by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield.

BLANCHE STRICKLAND
BISHOPVILLE - Graveside services for Blanche Irene Strickland, 72, were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2001, at the Bethlehem Church Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Jones officiated with services directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel.

Mrs. Strickland died Friday, June 8, 2001. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late James Theo and Blanche Ackerman Strickland. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was retired from Interstate Tractor Co.

Surviving are three daughters, Beth Strickland of Bishopville, Mary S. Tennant of Sumter, Irene S. Keister of Darlington; one son, Jim Strickland of Spartanburg; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Strickland Jr. and grandson, Todd Strickland. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church or Bishopville Rescue Squad.
