JOE DAVID HODGE
SOCIETY HILL – Graveside services for Joe David Hodge, 37, will be held at 4 p.m. today, July 6, 2001, in Harris Creek Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Hodge was born in Chesterfield County, the son of Linda Garrett Hodge and the late Bert E. "B.E." Hodge. He was Baptist by faith.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Society Hill are one daughter, Kadee Elizabeth Hodge of Elgin; two brothers, Paul Hodge of Florence and Keith Hodge of Gloucester, Va.; one sister, Sandy H. Eddings of Society Hill; and a number of nieces and nephews.

DAISY BAZEN JUNE
DARLINGTON – Services for Daisy Bazen June, 75, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Florence. Entombment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery Mausolem directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. June, wife of the late George Charlton June, died Thursday, July 5, in a Florence hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Florence County, the daughter of the late Miliken and Alma Poston Bazen. She was a housewife and retired from the restaurant business. Mrs. June was a devout Catholic by faith and attended St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Irene June (Charles H.) Raley of Hilton Head, Marilyn June (Bruce) Sanza of Denton, Texas and Sharon June of Mooresville, N.C.; six sons, Charlton (June) June of Columbia, Michael June of Darlington, Billy (Debbie) June of Murrells Inlet, Bobby June of Grove, Okla., Barry June of Irmo, and Donald June of Darlington; four sisters, Lucille Kight, Chris Hyler, Mary Harrelson and Jeanette Putnam, all of Florence; two brothers, Howard Bazen and Wally Bazen, both of Florence; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and 27 nieces and nephews.
Mrs. June was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne June; and two brothers, John Bazen and Petie Bazen.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Friday, at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Michael June, 324 Orange St., Darlington.

DANNY M. GAINEY
CONWAY – Services for Danny Michael Gainey, 35, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Pauley Swamp Baptist Church with Dr. Terry Grainger officiating, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. Local announcement was by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Gainey died Thursday, July 5, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born in Chesterfield, a son of Willis Tucker and Ruth Gainey.
Surviving in addition to his father of Pageland and mother of Chesterfield are his wife, Betty Jo Hall of Conway; three sons, Travis Gainey, Scott Gainey and Nicholas Hall, all of Conway; numerous cousins and aunts.
Memorials may be sent to Pauley Swamp Baptist Church, c/o Danny Michael Gainey Fund, 7480 Pauley Swamp, Conway, S.C. 29527.

CHANN W. GAINEY
CONWAY – Services for Chann Waylon Gainey, 10, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Pauley Swamp Baptist Church with Dr. Terry Grainger officiating, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. Local announcement was by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Chann died Thursday, July 5, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born in Florence, a son of Betty J. Hall and the late Danny Michael Gainey. He attended Pauley Swamp Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Conway are: three brothers, Travis Gainey, Scott Gainey and Nicholas Hall, all of Conway; one sister, Destiny Hall of Conway; maternal grandmother, Betty Munn of Conway; maternal grandfather, Curtis Hall of Chesterfield; paternal grandmother, Ruth Gainey of Chesterfield; paternal grandfather, Willis Tucker of Pageland; great-grandmother, Edith Munn of Chesterfield and great-grandmother Betty Hammond of Conway; and two uncles, Bobby Hall of Aynor and Christopher Hall of Conway.

SABRINA MAY
TIMMONSVILLE – Memorial services for Sabrina Denise Weatherford May, 23, were held at 5 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2001, in the Gospel Temple Church, 1507 King Ave., Florence, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. May died July 7 after an extended illness. She was born in Florence County, the daughter of Bubba and Bunnie Weatherford. She attended the Timmonsville Public Schools. She was a lifeguard for the city of Florence and enjoyed dancing. Her maternal grandfather, Robin Eugene Moore and her paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Ethel Weatherford, predeceased her.
Surviving in addition to her parents of Timmonsville are her husband, Brett Robert May of the home; one sister, Brandi Morris of Timmonsville; one half-sister, Cynthia Denise Gainey of Florida; maternal grandparents, J. T. and Juanita Lee of Florence.
Memorials may be made to Glenn's Bay Baptist Church, Glenn's Bay Road, Surfside Beach, S.C. 29588.

LURLINE S. McCANTS
DARLINGTON – Services for Lurline Swinton McCants were held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, in New Covenant Assembly in Christ Jesus Church with Bishop E. A. Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Florence National Cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. McCants died Friday, June 29, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Frank B. and Henrietta Baccus Swinton. She received her formal education in the Darlington County public schools. She was a member of the New Covenant Assembly in Christ Jesus Church where she served as past secretary of the Sunday School, a member of the adult club. She was a nurse's assistant at Bethea Baptist Home and her last employment was at Oakhaven Nursing Home until she retired after 18 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Rose Marie Smith of Darlington; three sons, Morris (Gloria) Swinton, Marvin Swinton, both of Darlington, Elder Anthony (Gloria) McCants of Florence and Albertus (Donnie) McCants; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elijah Swinton of Bronx, N.Y., and Lonnie Jett of New York; special cousins, Mrs. Mamie Boseman, Mrs. Fannie Simon and Ms. Annie Dell Johnson; nieces, nephews and cousins.

HALBERT SMITH
Halbert Smith of 757 Dovesville Highway, died Sunday in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

BETH Y. SNOWDEN
NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – Beth Duvall Yarborough Snowden, wife of George Snowden, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in New York City.
Mrs. Snowden was born April 14, 1931, in Florence and was the daughter of the late Hubert Edward Yarborough Jr. and Anne Osteen Yarborough Bryson.
Survivors beside her husband of New York City include a son, James L. Wells Jr. of Charleston; two daughters, Anne Wells Dennin and Harrington Wells Christenberry, both of New York City; two grandchildren, James Dennin and Beth Christenberry; a brother, Hubert Edward Yarborough III of Greenville, and a sister, Ann Yarborough Riley of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, James L. Wells, Robert Brooks and Pehr Sparre.
Memorials may be made to New York Public Library, 5th Avenue and 42nd Street, New York, N.Y. 10018. Buckley's Funeral Home of New York, N.Y., was in charge of arrangements.

MARGARET M. JONES
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Services for Margaret "Itty" McCall Jones, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2001, in the Chapel of Stewart Funeral Home in Washington, D.C. Burial will follow in Harmony Memorial Park with local announcements by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jones died Friday, July 6, in a Washington, D.C., hospital after a long illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Bennie Joseph and Rosa McCall Watson. She was the widow of Minnie Jones.
She received her education in the public schools of Darlington. She moved to Washington, D.C., in the early 1940s and attended the Armstrong School of Nursing. She worked and retired from the District of Columbia Government's Forest Haven Children Center in Laurel, Md. After retirement, she devoted her life to helping elderly friends. She was an active member of Boy Scout Troops #359 and #517.
Surviving include two children, Marcella P. Wingate of Darlington and Alan DesVernie Jones Sr. of Washington, D.C.; six great-grandchildren; a host of nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.

MARGARET C. STOKES
DARLINGTON – Memorial services for Margaret Cromer Stokes, 67, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2001, at First Baptist Church directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stokes died Friday, July 6, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Leland Ernest Sr. and Florence Mae Henderson Cromer. She was retired from administration at Florence-Darlington Technical College and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Stokes Kea of Hartsville; a son, Thomas Rhett Stokes Jr. of West Columbia; three grandchildren, Margaret Victoria Kea, Joshua Edwin Kea, and Christopher Scott Kea; and one brother, William Preston (Billy) Cromer of Darlington.
Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by a brother, Leland Ernest Cromer Jr.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 297, Darlington, S.C. 29540 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
