WILLIAM GOODWIN
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Services for William Goodwin, 65, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Marks Funeral Home Chapel in Rockingham with the Rev. Joe Wilkes officiating.
Mr. Goodwin died Saturday, Jan. 12, at Britthaven of Hamlet. He was born in Richmond County, a son of the late James and Bessie Honeycutt Goodwin. He was a retired mechanic.
Survivors include two brothers, Bobby Goodwin and James Richard Goodwin of Rocking-ham, and two sisters, Joyce Griggs of Hartsville and Gail Anderson of Kentucky.

MIKE JOHNSON
Funeral services for William Michael Johnson, 29, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Grover Johnson and Greg Batchelor officiated with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Chapel Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Johnson died Friday, Jan. 11. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of William M. and Vivian Freeman Johnson. He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and worked for Tadlock Drywall.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Wilson of Hartsville; two sons Brandon Michael Johnson and Cameron McNeil Johnson, both of Hartsville; a daughter, Blair Huggins of Hartsville; mother and father both of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynette and Brooks Tadlock, Michelle and Jeff Caddell, all of Hartsville; paternal grandparents, Sarah Outlaw Johnson; maternal grandparents, Sarah Hicks Freeman; three nephews and a niece.

WANDA C. HARRISON
Funeral services for Wanda Campbell Harrison, 49, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Lakeview Baptist Church. The Revs. Richard Sawyer, Charles Boswell and Pat McKain officiated with burial in Elim United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harrison died Friday, Jan. 11. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur James and Doris Dampier Campbell. She was a graduate of Coker College and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
Surviving are her son, Hoyt Harrison IV of Hartsville; daughters, Annie Harrison and Natalie Harrison, both of Hartsville; brother and sister-in-law, James R. and Gloria Campbell of Hartsville; sister, Helen C. Stokes of Hartsville; and a grandchild, Carter Harrison, of Hartsville.

RUBY SUGGS PLYLER
DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Ruby Davis Suggs Plyler, 83, will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Indian Branch United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Plyler died Tuesday, Jan. 15, in a local hospital. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Kenneth Alvin and Eva Hill Davis. She was a member of Indian Branch United Methodist Church and the Lottie McSwain Sunday School Class. Mrs. Plyler was retired from James River, Inc. She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful mother, grandmother and wife. Mrs. Plyler also enjoyed fishing.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dossie Suggs, in 1964, and her second husband, Hugh Plyler, in 2000.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth (Barbara) Suggs of Darlington; two daughters, Bobbi (Billie) James of Columbia and Bonnie (Glenn) Best of Sumter; one step-son, Jerry (Debbie) Plyler of Hartsville; one step-daughter, Jean (Walter) Harris of Hartsville; one sister, Claudia D. Odom of Darlington; 28 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are requested to be made to the Indian Branch UMC Building Fund, c/o Cecil James, P.O. Box 224, Darlington, SC 29540.

AMOS SMITH
Funeral services for Amos Smith, 78, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Lakeview Baptist Church. The Rev. Buddy Amerson officiated with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1470, Hartsville, SC 29551.
Mr. Smith, widower of Helen Elizabeth Munn Smith, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2002. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Caleb and Hattie Mae Outlaw Smith.
He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II, the Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173, and a Charter Member of the Rescue Squad. He worked for Sonoco for 41 years, was a member of the Sonoco Old Timer's Club, and a Charter Member of North Hartsville Baptist Church.
Surviving are his children, Evelyn (Charles) Dampier and Jennings (Grace) Smith of Hartsville and Teresa Smith of Charleston; six grandchildren, Chuck (Bobbie) Dampier of Hartsville, Scott (Elizabeth) Dampier of Gastonia, N.C., Paige (Jason) Webster of Hartsville, Jenanne Smith of Hartsville, Jim (Michelle) Huggins of San Diego, Calif., and Terri Beth Huggins-Tarpley (Robert) of Charleston; and seven great-grandchildren, Andy Dampier, Anna Stanley, Tanner and Emily Webster, Chelsea and Katie Huggins, and Elissa Tarpley; and a special friend, Etha Mae Alford.

KENNETH GREGORY
RUBY – Funeral services for Kenneth Gregory, 47, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Dean Parker officiated with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Gregory died Sunday Jan. 13, 2002. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Alfred Jefferson and Sallie Hicks Gregory. He was a good loving man and will be missed.
Surviving are his wife, Violet Crowley Gregory of Ruby; son, Kenny "Barney" Eugene Gregory of Ruby; daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda Gregory and Joey Lett of Patrick, Donna Gregory and James Jordan of Patrick; brothers and sister-in-law, Jimmy Lee and Elaine Gregory of Ruby, Randy Gregory of Hartsville, Tommy Gregory of Pageland; sister, Annette Gregory Watford of Oates; grandchildren, Cody Jordan, Kelsey Jordan, Trey Lett, Dylan Lett, and Kaitlyn Lett. He was predeceased by his sister, Vermell Peach, and his brother, Billy Gregory.

HARLEY GAINEY
Funeral services for Junius Harley Gainey, 83, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at North Hartsville Baptist church. The Rev. Ladell Humphries and the Rev. Dr. Richard Bailey officiated with burial in New Providence cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to North Hartsville Baptist Church, 1117 Patrick Hwy., Hartsville, SC 29550 or Hospice of Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29506.
Mr. Gainey, widower of Geneva Mae Gainey Gainey, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Junius Cleveland and Maybell Boseman Gainey. He was a charter member of North Hartsville Baptist Church and was retired from the Darlington County School System. He was a World War II veteran and a POW and was involved in the Battle of the Budge.
Surviving are his wife, Esther Griggs Gainey of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jan Gainey of Greenville; daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn G. and Gary Wilson Steen, Jearldine G. and John Lorraine Tolson, and Zelda G. Hendrix all of Hartsville; sister, Vivian Gainey of Hartsville; grandchildren, Randy Steen, Sharon Brunson, Ginger King, Ricky Steen, Tracy Tolson, Ryan Hendrix, Adam Hendrix, Tyler Hendrix, Josh Gainey, Justin Gainey and Stephanie Gainey; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grand-children. He was predeceased by two sons, Eugene Gainey and Darrell Gainey, and a sister, Mattie Lee Gainey.

DUB GLENN
Funeral Services for Walter M. "Dub" Glenn, Jr., 75, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at West Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Tim Tomlinson will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the West Hartsville Baptist Church Building Fund, 1003 West Carolina Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mr. Glenn, widower of Nellie Hale Glenn, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Walter M. and Minnie Roberts Glenn, Sr. He was a charter member of West Hartsville Baptist Church, Past Master of Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173, a Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Omar Shrine. He was one of the first organizers and a coach of Dixie Youth Baseball in Hartsville.
Surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Craig King of Hartsville; daughters, Deborah Jaudon Matthews of Macon, Ga., Cynthia Glenn Thompson of Hartsville; nephew, Carpenter King of Hartsville; nieces, Susan and Annette Glenn of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Anthony G. Thompson Jr., Amanda T. Lowell, both of Hartsville, Christopher M. Matthews and Katie E. Matthews, both of Macon, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Dalton Lowell, Fletcher Lowell, and Hannah Elaine Thompson, all of Hartsville.

WILMA BARKER
SOCIETY HILL – Funeral services for Wilma Thurman Barker, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Society Hill Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Richard Banks will officiate with burial in Lorimor Cemetery, Winterset, Iowa. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends this evening, Wednesday from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Society Hill Presbyterian Church or Lorimor Baptist Church.
Mrs. Barker died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002. Born in Madison County, Iowa, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Ada Moody Thurman. She attended the Society Hill Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Norman Barker of Society Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Gary and Pat Barker of Society Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Larry Morrissey of Carmel, Ind., Patti and Dick Boggess of Newton, Iowa; sister, Erma McDonald of Osceola, Iowa; grandchildren, Linda Morrissey, Jon Morrissey, Jacqie Boggess, Amy Boggess, John Barker, Kelly Galloway, Michael Smith, Marie Hatchell, Sereata Luckey, Eric Barker, Shalonda Barker, Amanda Barker, Christina Barker, Christopher Barker, Zachary Barker, Jacqueline Barker, and Cheyenne Barker. She was predeceased by her brothers, Lester Thurman, Orvie Thurman, Everett Thurman, Leonard Thurman, Chester Thurman, and her sisters, Mabel Thurman and Beatrice Fay Thurman.

BEULAH MULLIS
Funeral Services for Beulah Pylant Mullis, 86, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Lakeview Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Don Purvis will officiate with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mullis, widow of Thomas D. Mullis, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Luther Jackson and Elizabeth Floyd Pylant.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Earl W. and Susan Mullis of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-law, Mina M. Lofland of Clayton, Del., Erika M. and Gregory K. Weinacht of Ladson, S.C.; sister, Mae Dell Plyant Jernigan of Winter Park, Fla.; brother, Franklin E. Pylant of Statesboro, Ga.; grandchildren, Nancy Mullis Shepard of Hartsville, Michael E. Mullis of Leesville, S.C., William W. Mullis of Hartsville, Earl Robert Lofland of Clayton, Del., Malinda Donielle Weinacht of Goose Creek, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Cameron Shepard, Jason Shepard, Jessica Shepard, Lindsey Mullis, Timothy Mullis, Tyler Mullis, Ethan Mullis, all of Hartsville, and Dameon Weinacht of Goose Creek.
