JIMMY SEEGARS

Graveside services for James Jimmy Wright Seegars, 59, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003 at McBee cemetery. The Rev. Danny Holley officiated with Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home in charge of preparations.

Mr. Seegars died Friday, March 21, 2003. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Henry Wright and Gladys Horton Seegars. A loving grandfather and friend to many, he will be missed by all.

Surviving are his daughter, Beverly Seegars of Darlington; sons and daughters–in–law, Russell and Susan Seegars of Greer, S.C., Randy and Ramona Seegars of Monroe, N.C.; sisters and brother–in–law, Jackie and Allen Teal of McBee, Joanne S. Cain of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Chance Seegars, Dare Seegars, and Duncan Seegars; and fiance', Wanda Rhoad of McBee.

EVELYN MACK

LAMAR — Funeral services for Evelyn Auntie Mack were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003 in Spaulding Jr. High School Gym, Lamar, with the Rev. Emanuel Simon, officiating. Burial followed in Plaza Memorial cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mack died Wednesday, March 19, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, the oldest daughter of 12 children to the late Elijah and Sylvia Pearson Mack. She received her formal education in the Darlington County public schools. She lived and worked in New York for over 40 years and in 1981, she moved back to Lamar. She joined Bethany Baptist Church and was a member of the choir. In the community, she was a part of the Senior Citizen organization of Lamar and the Carolina Rehab Club in Florence.

Survivors include three sisters, Hilda Hendrix, Rev. Catherine Reid, both of Clio and Sally (Aaron) Green of Brooklyn, N.Y. who she reared as a daughter; two brothers, William Bill (Dot) Mack of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Willie Lee (Quincy) Stevenson of Cola, Fla. who she reared as a son; three adopted children, Willie Jr., Crystal and Monique Stevenson of N.C.; two special nephews, Frankie (Vera) Price of Quinby and Richard Price of Lamar; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

CECIL SANSBURY

LAMAR — Funeral services for John Cecil Sansbury, 61, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Elim United Methodist Church with interment following in the church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home of Lamar.

Mr. Sansbury died Thursday, March 20, from injuries sustained in an accident. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late John and Grace Teal Sansbury. He was employed for 37 years as a warehouse manager for Perfection Hy–Test. He enjoyed living life to its fullest, playing and coaching softball and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a member of Elim United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his son, Norman (Meredith) Sansbury of LaPorte, Texas; two grandchildren, Gavin and Riley Sansbury; two sisters, Brenda S. (C.D.) Kirby and Mildred S. Floyd, both of Oates; four step–children, Cindy Jolly, Amy Sowell, Todd Cassidy, all of Hartsville and Lisa Anderson of Timmonsville; a loving companion of three years, Debra McKnight of Lamar; wife, Ivy Sansbury of Timmonsville and several nephews and nieces.

Mr. Sansbury was preceded in death by a brother, Ernie Sansbury and a niece, Ashley Grace Helms.

EUGENE E. NETTLES JR.

Graveside services for Eugene E. Nettles, Jr., 82, were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 from the Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Nettles died Sunday, March 22. He was born in Florence County, a son of the late Eugene E. Nettles Sr. and Vering Huff Nettles. He was a retired owner of Nettles–Davidson Motorcycle Sales in Surfside each and was a WWII veteran.

Surviving are a sister–in–law, Mrs. Dena Hucks of Hartsville and a brother–in–law, Charles B. Hucks of Orlando, Fla.

OTIS W. FUTRELL

Funeral services for Otis W. (Sonny) Futrell, 67, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2003, from the Brown Springs Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Futrell died Thursday, March 20. He was born in York County, a son of the late Otis Z. and Lois Powell Futrell. He was retired from Nucor Steel and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Delores Andrews Futrell of Hartsville; a daughter, Robin Stroud of Patrick; three sons, Otis Wayne and James David Futrell of Hartsville and Dondi Gene Futrell of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Evelyn Cashwell of Gibson, N.C., Aileen Perkins of Las Vegas, Nev., Marilyn Brewin of Temple City, Ca. and Sylvia Griggs of Marion; four brothers, Frank and Berlin Futrell of Hartsville, Buddy Futrell of Temple City, Ca. and Pete Futrell of Jewerr, Texas; ten grandchildren and two great–grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Futrell.

SANFORD PSILLOS

SAVANNAH, GA. — Funeral services for Sanford John Psillos, formerly of Darlington, will be held at 1 p.m. today, March 26, 2003 in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration of Our Savior in Florence. Interment will follow at Grove Hill cemetery in Darlington, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Psillos was born in Union County, a son of the late John Ignatius and Ellen Jekoff Psillos. He was a Newberry College graduate and served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, 1950–1953. He had retired from Chatham County Board of Education and was a social studies teacher, assistant principal and principal at Wilder Middle School and Chatham Junior High School. Mr. Psillos was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration of Our Savior. He was married to the late Steva Taleff Psillos.

Surviving are two daughters, Aspasia Psillos Watson and Alexandra Georgiana Psillos, both of Savannah, Ga. and four sisters, Elizabeth Psillos, Mary Psillos, Ethel Psillos and Anastasia Psillos, all of Darlington.

Mr. Psillos was preceded in death by a brother, James Psillos.

MARIE CAPERS

Funeral services for Marie Capers were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2003 in Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Isaac Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.

Mrs. Capers died March 19 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was the daughter of the late Weston King and Lindy Sampson. She was educated in public schools. Mrs. Capers was married to the late Booker T. Capers, and this union was blessed with six children. She was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church where she was a member of its Missionary Club and Helping Hand Club.

Survivors are her children, Booker T. Capers Jr., of Denver Colo., Richard M. Capers of Brooklyn, N.Y., Linda F. Capers of Durham, N.C., Miriam E. Capers of Ozon Hill, Md., Garry V. Capers and Michael A. Capers, both of the home; sisters, Lillie Wyman, Theola Scott and the Rev. Janice Smith, all of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Luther King of Hartsville; step–mother, Mary King of Hartsville; two daughters–in–law, Carol Capers and Patricia Capers; five grandchildren; four great–grandchildren and three great–great grandchildren.

ANDREW E. McCALL

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Andrew E. McCall will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 26, 2003 in Mt. Rona Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Matthew Robinson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.

Mr. McCall died Friday, March 21, in a V.A. Hospital in Columbia after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, the 12th and youngest of the late Walter and Olivia Coleman McCall Sr. He was a graduate of Rosenwald High School Class of 1949. He was a member of Mt. Rona Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board. He worked various jobs, and his last employment was with Cheraw Concrete from which he retired.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict serving one year in combat. After his tenure he was honorably discharged.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Catherine Rubin McCall of the home; his children, Maxine Wanzer of the home and Melvin (Bertha) Rubin of Florence; six grandchildren, Bridget Rubin, Joseph Campbell, Terrence Wanzer, Jamal Wanzer, Christopher Damon and Nolan Damon Jr.; a special god niece, Deja Williams; six sisters–in–law; one brother–in–law; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an adopted daughter, Christine R. Damon.

GRETTIE ANN WASHINGTON

AUGUSTA, GA. — Grettie Ann Brown Washington, 62, died Monday, March 23, 2003 in an Augusta, Ga., hospital. Local arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of Joe and Lena Brown George, 1420 Myrtle St., Hartsville.

MARGIE M. HARRIS

LAURENS — Funeral services for Margie McCall Harris, 86, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Second Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Joseph W. Smith and the Rev. J. D. Shiflet, with burial in Forest Lawn cemetery.

Mrs. Harris, widow of Clarence Eugene Harris, died Thursday, March 20, at Morrell Memorial Convalescent Center in Hartsville. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Lee O. and Jessie Vaughan McCall. She was a homemaker, wife and mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hartsville and previously a member and Sunday School teacher of Second Baptist Church in Laurens.

She is survived by two sons and daughters–in–law, Michael C. and Debbie Harris of Gray Court, Barney L. and Lynn Harris of Laurens; one daughter and son–in–law, Sara H. and Dick Buckles of Hartsville; three grandchildren, Michael Christopher Harris II, Harold Lee Harris, Jonathan Mackey Harris; and one great–grandchild, Jessica Nicole Harris.

HARRY HOPE

BATESBURG, S.C. — Memorial services for Robert Harry Hope, 52, were held at 3 p. m. Monday, March 24 2003, at Batesburg–Leesville Presbyterian Church. The Rev. David Torrey officiated, directed by Mitlon Shealy Funeral Home.

Mr. Hope died Thursday, March 20. He was a son of the late Harry and Nathalie Stogner Hope. He was a member and elder of Batesburg–Leesville Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Parrish Hope of Batesburg; son, Paul J. Koon of Saluda; sons, Laura R.Smth of Saluda, Kelly J. Temple of Gilbert; brother and sister, Lawrence S. Hope and Carol H. Langston of Hartsville; and six grandchildren.

BETTY OUTLAW

Funeral services for Betty Funderburk Outlaw, 68, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Friday, March 21, 2003, at St Luke United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ben Gafford and Dora Gafford will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Darlington County Humane Society, Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551.

Mrs. Outlaw, widow of Leon D. Outlaw, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late William Romulus and Faye Powers Funderburk. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and the Hallie Byrd Circle.

Surviving are her sons and daughters–in–law, Greg and Linda Outlaw of Florence, Dane and Laura Outlaw of Summerville; daughters and sons–in–law, Cathy O. and Glen Kelley of Columbia, Beth O. and Clayton Prescott of Hartsville; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, William Romulus Funderburk Jr.

BOBBY GARDNER

Funeral services for Robert Burton Gardner, 73, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Friday, March 21, 2003, at the Chapel of Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The Revs. David Jordan and Tim Tomlinson will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery.

Mr. Gardner died Saturday, March 15, 2003. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late James Bolin and Ruth Carter Gardner.

Surviving are his wife, Hilda Gardner of Rockville, Md.; sons, John Gardner of New Market, Md., Butch Gardner of North Myrtle Beach; daughters, Linda Hanks of Salem, Va., Nancy Morris of Germantown, Md., Ruth Huggins and Connie Knotts, both of Hartsville; and sister, Connie Gandy of Hartsville.

JEROME 'BO' BENJAMIN

Mr. Jerome Bo Benjamin, son of Mayesville (Dot) Benjamin and the late Frank Benjamin Sr., died Tuesday, March 18 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. The family will receive friends at the home of his mother at 452 Penn Circle. Hines Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.

HARRY L. JACOBS

Mr. Harry L. William Jacobs, formally of Hartsville, son of Lizzie Jacobs and the late Orbie Jacobs died Tuesday, March 18 in a Philadelphia hospital. Local arrangements are entrusted to Hines Funeral Home, Inc.

EMMA SANDERS

SOCIETY HILL — Funeral services for Emma Sanders, 48, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Bethesda Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Ms. Sanders died Tuesday, March 18, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia after an illness. She was born Aug. 4, 1954, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Lee B. and Alice Graham Sanders. she was a graduate of Rosenwald High School. At an early age she joined Bethesda Baptist Church. Later she moved to Columbia, where she was a member of Arise Christian Center of Holiness Church and was employed with Sodex'ho.

Surviving are two daughters, Rashdia Gregg and April Sanders, both of Columbia; a son, Sylvester Gregg of Bishopville; four grandchildren; eight sisters, Rosa M. Burns and Shirley Sanders, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Geraldine Pickens of Iva, S.C., Lois McNeil of Darlington, Jannie McMillian of Hartsville, Louise Sanders, Mary S. Sanders, Catherine Douglas, all of Society Hill; three brothers, Calvin Sanders of Philadelphia, Pa., Billy Sanders of Darlington and Levern Delane of Society Hill; an aunt, Bessie M. Graham of Society Hill; two sisters–in–law; four brothers–in–law; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
