Mamie Z. Brewington
Retired from Buffalo Mill

BUFFALO Mamie Zimmerman Brewington, 81, of 512 Drugstore St., Buffalo, widow of Erskine F. Brewington, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at 12:47 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Brewington was born in Newberry County on July 26, 1922, a daughter of the late Ralph David Zimmerman Sr. and Essie Mae Walker Zimmerman. She was a member of the Buffalo United Methodist Church and the Rosa Roundtree Sunday School Class. Mrs. Brewington was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant.

Surviving are:a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Alvin Gillian of Buffalo; a son, Erskine (Bud) Brewington of Rockledge, Fla., four grandchildren, Jill West and husband Karl of Colorado Springs, Colo.,, Jodi Wood and husband Elbert of Buffalo, Cindy Millwood and husband Todd of Jonesville and Lisa Donnahoo and husband Dennis of Chesnee; four great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; two sisters, Lillian Holcombe and Betty Braxton, both of Buffalo; and two brothers, Lester Zimmerman of Buffalo and Ralph Zimmerman of Shreveport, La. Mrs.

Brewington was predeceased by three sisters and a brother, Maybelle Sulton, Louise Babb, Daisy Bright and Joe Zimmerman. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Phillip Chandler. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Maness, Jimmy Heatherly, Mack Long, Donnie Sanders, Michael Johnson and Ben Wages.

Members of the Rosa Roundtree Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 and will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Friday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 512 Drugstore St., Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo United Methodist Church, 108 Hill St.. Buffalo, S.C. 29321. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Eola Lorance Dent
Union artist

Eola Lorance Dent, 83, died May 18, 2004, at Oakmont Nursing Home. She was the wife of Lt. Col. Eugene H. Dent, USAF, retired, of 1612 Old Pump Station Road, Union. Mrs. Dent was renowned for her realistic paintings of local places of interest. She taught art classes for several years.

Mrs. Dent is survived by her husband and three sons, E. Huntley Dent of Santa Fe, N.M., John R. and wife Beverly Dent of Eureka Springs, Ark., and Walter D. Dent of Conroe, Texas. A fourth son, Lt. William L. Dent, was killed in action in Vietnam. No local services are planned, interment will be determined at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for the Union County Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 156, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Charles L. Estes Sr.
Retired from Cedar Hill Plant

Charles LeRoy Estes Sr., 69, husband of Rebecca Pierce Estes of 107 Partridge Road, Union, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at 5:07 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Estes was born in Union on Sept. 7, 1934, a son of the late Clarence and Minnie Lou Ivey Estes. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mr. Estes was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Milliken & Co., Cedar Hill Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kimberly Faye Estes of Columbia; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles L. Estes Jr. and wife Tammy of Union; a special granddaughter, Alisha Nicole Estes of Union; four sisters, Marion Estes, Martha Williams, Mary Pridemore and Ruby Whitmire, all of Union; and three brothers, Donald Estes of Union, J.W. Estes of Lexington and Bruce Estes of Macon, Ga.

Mr. Estes was predeceased by two brothers, Clarence Estes Jr., and George Estes. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Roger Plemmons.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30. The family is at the home, 107 Partridge Road, Union. Memorials may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, 915 S. Pinckney St., Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Willie E. Randall
Retired from Cedar Hill Plant

Willie Edward (Bill) Randall, 71, husband of Ann Gregory Randall of 203 Jeffries St., Union, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at 2:07 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Randall was born in the Monarch Community of Union County on June 26, 1932, a son of Bessie Floyd Randall of Inman and the late Ransom B. Randall. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Milliken & Co., Cedar Hill Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Frances Randall of Spartanburg, a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Susan Randall of Union; a granddaughter, Connor Randall of Union; a nephew, Mike Gregory of Union; a niece, Van Gregory of Union; two special cousins, Lindsey and Debra Cannon of Union and a brother, R B. Randall of Maui, Hawaii.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Roger Plemmons. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Elbert L. Rogers
Retired from Torrington Co.

Elbert L. Rogers, 76, husband of Willie Franklin Rogers, of 271 Meansville Road, Apt. B-8, Union, died at his home Wednesday, May 19, 2004, after a long illness. Mr. Rogers was born in Kingsport, Tenn., on Jan. 14, 1928, a son of the late A.Z. Rogers and Annie Rhinehart Rogers and was the step-son of the late Lessie Parton Rogers. He was retired from Torrington Co. and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Estes was retired after 27 years with the S.C. National Guard, Union Unit, and was a graduate of Union High School and Cecil Business College. He was a member of Gilead Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher and also served as custodian of the church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Rhonda Caughman of Union, Joyce Lawson of Brunswick, Ga., and Tammy Willard of Buffalo; a son, David Rogers of Union; three sisters, Lucille Whitmore of Greer, Audrey Large of Inman and Gloria Gowan of Buffalo; two brothers, Jack Rogers of Illinois and Joe Rogers of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Scottie Burris, Amy Bobo, Michael Lawson, Michelle Caughman, Elliott Rogers, Dale Willard, Derek Willard and Dylan Rogers, all of Union; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Rogers was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Rogers Vinson, a brother, Lee (Bill) Rogers and a sister, Jimmie Lorene Dent. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Gilead Baptist Church by the Rev. Lawton Neely and Father Jim Hager. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Larry Bennett, Brian Bennett, D.C. Henderson, Colon Duckett, Tim Cobb and Mark Ivester. Former deacons of Gilead Baptist Church and members of Mr., Rogers Sunday School Class are asked to assemble at the church Saturday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of his granddaughter, Amy Bobo, 496 John Cody Church Road, Union, S.C. 293769. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Barbara W. Deaton
Union native

Barbara Etta Whitmire Deaton, 66, widow of Willie Deaton Jr., of 221 E. Main Street, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Deaton was born in Union on Nov. 25, 1936, a daughter of the late Johnny Whitmire and Bertha Nichols Whitmire Jolly. She attended Union High School and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are four daughters, Bonnie D. Thompson of Spartanburg, April D. Kirby and her husband Michael; Debbie D. Harmon and Holly D. Jones, all of Union; two sons, Timmy Wayne Deaton of Union and Jason Simeon Deaton and wife, Jolly, of Spartanburg; a brother, George Robert (Bobby) Whitmire of Union; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Randy Smith. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Stevie Sinclair, Harold Dean Sinclair, Jr., Chad Sherbet, Johnny Whitmire, Brian Brackins, Richard Prince Jr. and Christopher L. Sanders.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9. The family is at the home of her daughter, April and Michael Kirby, 112 Pineland Road. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Haskell R. Franklin
EMMD retiree

Haskell Robert Franklin, 92, widower of Edith Boulware Franklin, of 819 Flat Drive, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Franklin was born in Buffalo on June 28, 1910, a son of the late Bob and Bessie Coleman Franklin. He was retired from EMMD and a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Elsie and Jack Ray of the home; two sisters, Gaynelle Trantham of Union and Ethel Penniington of Clinton; two grandchildren, Melanie Ray of Union and Steve Ray of Pacolet; four great-grandchildren, Heather Bobo, Nick Bevis, Will Ray and Jesse Ray; a great-great-grandchild, Chase Bevis.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Brian Bobo, Celso Perez, Brian Vinson, Mack Boulware, Brian Turner and Tommy Turner.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30. The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ray, 819 Flat Drive, Buffalo. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Ronald G. Gilmore

Funeral services for Ronald George Gilmore, 54, of Brooklyn, N.Y., will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He was the son of the late George and Mary Thompson Gilmore. Wright Funeral Home of York.

Fred Palmer
World War II veteran

Fred Palmer, 81, of 464 Sardis Road, Union, widower of Annie Laura Young Palmer, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at 7:45 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Palmer was born in Union on May 7, 1923, a son of the late Will and Rose Brown Palmer. He was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church and a life-time member of the John A. Fant Masonic Lodge.

He was a founding member of the Southside Fire Department where he served as a volunteer fireman and had served as treasurer and also served as a member of the board of directors. Mr. Palmer was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Air Force and was retired from Moore Business Forms of Greenwood as a customer consultant.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Amanda Palmer of Union; two granddaughters, Kelly Ivey and husband Mark of Union and Kristy Scott and husband Clyde of Buffalo; four great-grandchildren, Kadin Ivey and Creighton Ivey, both of Union and Bradley Scott and Bailey Scott, both of Buffalo; a sister, Addie P. Estes of Union; and two brothers, Walt Palmer of Union and Dan Palmer of Hendersonville, N.C. Mr. Palmer was predeceased by a son, Freddie Palmer; and two sisters and a brother, Helen Ivey, Martha Porter and Will Palmer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sardis United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Angelia Price and the Rev. Roger Plemmons. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites. Active pallbearers will be Barry Palmer, Buford Brown, Cecil King, Ben Ivey, III, Eddie Mayo, Sandy Loyd, Lee Sanders and Calvin Walker.

The following are asked to assemble at the church Saturday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Members of Mr. Palmer's Sunday School class, firemen of Southside Fire Department, employees and friends of Spartanburg Cardiac Rehab Center and Dudley Adams, Tom Weathers, Jimmy Dancler, Jim Fredrick, Ralph Fredrick, Steve Ward, Ronnie Fisher, Robert Queen, Bud Young, John Puitt and James Kimbrell.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of his son, Jim and Amanda Palmer, 216 River Hills Road, Union. Memorials may be made to the Heart Center-Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, 101 E.
