ELLA MARGARET BLACKWELL
Graveside services for Ella Margaret Flowers Blackwell, 66, were held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Damascus cemetery. The Rev. Ed Griggs officiated, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mrs. Blackwell, widow of Robert Blackwell, died Sunday, April 9. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late John Curtis and Maggie Barefoot Flowers.

Surviving are her brother, Rush Flowers of Cheraw; niece, Susan Waters; nephew, Billy Waters. She was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis Griggs; sisters, Carolyn Waters and Patricia Tapscott.

MARY McIVER
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McIver of 2028 E. Home Ave., died on Saturday, April, 8, 2006, at Carolinas Hospital System of Florence. The family will receive friends at the residence. Hines Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.

RICHARD HAMBY
Funeral services for Richard Isaiah Hamby, 91, will be held 4 p.m. today, April 7, 2006, in the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. The Revs. Wayne Windham and J.C. Sorrow will officiate. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hamby, who died Wednesday, April 5, was born in Iva, a son of the late James Samuel and Vester Royster Hamby. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Schumpert Hamby; daughter, Becky (Joe) Britt; grandchildren, Wendy (Lee) Turner, Keith (Sheron) Britt, Joanna (Rick) Steen, all of Hartsville; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

FLOYD C. CHITTY JR.
Floyd C. 'Bo' Chitty, 87, of Hartsville passed away Sunday March 26, 2006, after a short illness. Graveside services were held in Magnolia cemetery in Hartsville on Wednesday, March 29, at 2 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Tony Medlin.

Mr. Chitty was born in Groveland, Ga., on Jan. 15, 1919. He was the son of the late Floride Garris Chitty and Floyd Clemson Chitty Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife Blanche Tedder Chitty of Hartsville, his son Calvin Garris Chitty, and sister Irene Chitty Lynn of Columbia.

He is survived by one son Floyd C. Chitty III and family of Smyrna, Ga.; granddaughter Joella Potts and great-grandson, John Murray Potts of Atlanta; great-granddaughter Elizabeth Lane Sheldon of Marietta, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, dedicated neighbors and friends.

Mr. Chitty was a graduate of Hartsville High School and a 1940 graduate of The Citadel with a BS in civil engineering. In his senior year he was cadet captain and the commander of 'C' Company. At The Citadel he was a member of the Summerall Guards elite precision drill team, and he was on the school's training cadre for two years. He was a past president of the Brigadier Club, a past president of the Pee Dee Area Citadel Club, and a recipient of the 'Outstanding State Citadel Volunteer Award.' He was the epitome of a true Citadel man, as fervent in donation as he was a promoter, recruiter, and friend of The Citadel. If you were one of Bo's Citadel boys, you were very special to him. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Army Corps of Engineers, obtaining the rank of major. His military service took him to both South America and Ascension Island.

Mr. Chitty worked for Tomlinson Engineering Company and the S.C. State Highway Department before joining Sonoco Products Co. in Hartsville in 1947. He retired from Sonoco as chief - general engineering in 1982 with more than 35 years of service. Mr. Chitty was a registered professional engineer and a land surveyor. Over the years he participated in many civic and charitable organizations. He was a member of the Byerly Hospital Board of Trustees and served as chairman of the building committee. He was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He was a district commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America and Camporee director of the Pee Dee Area Boy Scouts. He was a director of the Hartsville Chamber of Commerce, and District 6 governor of the Exchange Club in SC. He initiated bringing Little Boys Baseball to the Hartsville area and he served as commissioner - Hartsville Little Boys Baseball and director of State District 5.

Memorials may be made in his name to: St. Luke United Methodist Church, Carolina Children's Home, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in N.Y., the American Parkinson Disease Association, The Citadel Brigadier Foundation, or The Citadel Developmental Foundation.

PEGGY SUE BROWN
NEWTON - Funeral services for Peggy Sue Sigmon Brown, 73, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2006, in the chapel of Jenkins Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald Oldenburg officiated, with burial following at Catawba Memorial Park.

Mrs. Brown, formerly of Conover, died Friday March 31, at Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Born Nov. 6, 1932, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late I. Glenn Sigmon and Mary Beatrice Sherrill Sigmon.

She was a retired office manager for Pendleton G. Waldron, DDS in Newton. She was a graduate of Clevenger Business College, a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and a Dorcas Society member. Mrs. Brown was also a former Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Brown Mosteller of Marietta, Ga., and Kimberly Brown Talbert of Hartsville; two sons, Kenneth W. Brown of Conover and Kyle G. Brown of Indian Trails; four sisters, Shirley Lessnau of Tucson, Ariz., Mary Glen Shepherd of Apopka, Fla., Phyllis Sigmon Lail of Claremont and Brenda Fulcher of Hickory; a brother, Bob L. Sigmon of Richmond, Va.; and five grandchildren, Amber Elizabeth Brown, Derek Adam Brown, Zachary Edward Talbert, Madison Sigmon Mosteller and Kylie Gray Talbert. In addition to her parents, her husband, Floyd K. Brown Jr., a son, Brian Keith Brown, and sister, Nancy Sigmon Haivala, preceded her in death.

The family requests that memorials be made to Harris Hospice Unit, Presbyterian Hospital Foundation, PO Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233.

Pallbearers were J. Scott Mosteller, Richard E. Talbert, Derek Brown, Zachary Talbert, Lawrence C. Hendricks and Clayton P. Hendricks.

RUTH ROGERS
Funeral services for Ruth Gainey Rogers, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 5, 2006, at New Market United Methodist Church. The Rev. Scott Petry, the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford and the Rev. Dr. Ben Gafford will officiate with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Market United Methodist Church, 1921 W. Old Camden Hwy., Hartsville, SC 29550 or Greater Heights Baptist Church, Box 566, McBee, SC 29101.

Mrs. Rogers died Monday, April 3. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Pinkney and Lilly Warren Gainey. She was a member of New Market United Methodist Church, the choir, and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She was past president of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are her husband, Rozier R. Rogers of Hartsville; daughters and sons-in-law, the Rev. Barbara and Cooper Lee Segars, Darlene and Leon Gaddy Sr., Dianne and Ronald Haney, all of Hartsville, the Revs. Dora and Ben Gafford of Bennettsville; grandchildren, Lee Segars Jr., Brian Segars, Natalie 'Dee' Segars Davis, Leon Gaddy Jr., Naomi Gaddy Holley, David Haney, Stacey Haney Hamrick, Reagan Gafford, Lindsey Gafford; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Rozier Rogers Jr.

BETTY J. CASSIDY
Graveside services for Betty Jean Gainey Cassidy, 68, will be held today, April 5, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Betty, widow of Olin Franklin Cassidy, died April 2. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Archie and Mary Shumate Gainey.

Surviving are a daughter, Angie Smothers of Hartsville; sons, Pat and Matt Cassidy of Hartsville; sisters, Janice Shaw, Rebecca Kissiah of Hartsville, Henrietta Price of Patrick, Diane Wilks, Gloria Faye Hall of Chesterfield, Shirley Griggs of Darlington; brother, William (Buddy) Gainey of Lanett, Ala.; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

PATSY L. BLAKNEY
Funeral services for Patsy Louise Blakney, 48, will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. J. D. Blue is the pastor of Second Baptist, and Pastor Edith Abraham will officiate the service.

Ms. Blakneydied Monday, March 27, 2006 at McLeod Healthcare Facility in Darlington after an illness. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Dorothy Osborne and Izzell Blakney. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and was a 1975 graduate of Butler High School. While at Butler, she excelled in athletics and in her academic studies as well. After graduation from high school, Ms. Blakney received an athletic scholarship to attend Clemson University.

Patsy was first a member of Second Baptist Church in Hartsville, where she served the church in many capacities. She founded the Second Baptist Church Mass Choir and was a member of the Friendship Community Choir. She recently joined and was a member of Spiritual Growth Ministry Church.

Patsy enjoyed playing all types of sports. She especially enjoyed playing softball and was a longtime member of the Hartsville 'Hellcats.' She was a loving person who was kind hearted and a friend to many. Her presence from among us will surely be missed.

Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Patsy Louise Blakney include one son, Pfc. Patrick Lawrence Blakney; one sister, Bobbie Jean McNeal Richardson of Hartsville; four brothers, Henry (Barbara) Blakney and Tommy (Ava) McNeal both of Hartsville, Jake (Teressa) McNeal of Bentonville, Ark., and Kennis McNeal of Wilmington, N.C.; several aunts, Ella (Henry) Bryant of Florence, Elizabeth Kennedy of Sumter, Dorothy Bishop, Beulah Hough, Betty Vinson, Blanch Atkinson, Wilmia Holloman and Virginia Brown all of Hartsville; her uncles, Willie Edward Blakney, Isaac Blakney and Curtis Blakney all of Hartsville, Leroy Sutton and David (Joan) Sutton both of Newark, N.J.; special nephews, Anthony Blakney of Florida, Dominique McNeal, Ashton Richardson, Jaylon Bacote and Dezmeon McNeal all of Hartsville; special nieces, Kimberly Lunn of Darlington and Taylor McNeal of Bentonville, Ark.; her goddaughter, Sheri Jordan of Hartsville and a host of other relatives and very dear friends.

MARION W. MARSH
Funeral services for Marion William Marsh, 61, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Kelleytown Baptist Church. The Rev. Lynn Kirkman officiated, with Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Marsh died Thursday, March 30, 2006. Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Raymond and Corine Gainey Marsh.

Surviving are his daughter, Cindy Cooper of Hartsville; sister, Hazel Tobar of Sumter; brother, Gene Marsh of Florence; three granddaughters.

He was predeceased by three brothers, James M. Gainey, Heyward Marsh, Lee Marsh; nine nephews; eight nieces. .

BONNIE GAINEY
Funeral services for Bonnie Faye Gainey, 67, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jimmy Spence will officiate with burial in Pond Hollow cemetery.

Mrs. Gainey, widow of Clayton Leroy Gainey, died Thursday, March 30. Born in Darlington, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Cora Gainey Gainey. She was a loving mother to all of us.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Cidna Gainey of Albermarle, N.C., James and Crystal Gainey of Hartsville, Paul and Gloria Gainey of Rockwell, N.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, Debby and Bobby Morton of Kannapolis, N.C., Vonnie and Donnie Dancy of Concord, N.C.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Gainey, her mother Cora Gainey, and her spouse, Clayton Gainey.

ERIKA WEINACHT
Memorial services for Erika Lee Weinacht, 53, will be held tonight, April 5, 2006, at 7 o'clock at Chapel of The Holy Spirit, Ladson. Burial will be private. Mrs. Weinacht, wife of Gregory Weinacht of Ladson, died Friday, March 31, at a local hospital. She was born Feb. 25, 1953, in Roseboro, N.C., the daughter of the late Thomas Dwight Mullis and the late Beulah Naomi Pylant Mullis. She was a homemaker, member of the Chapel of The Holy Spirit, Ladson, and a licensed minister.

Survivors include her husband, Gregory Weinacht of Ladson; one daughter Malinda Weinacht, of Ladson; two grandsons, Dameon Weinacht and Isiah Middleton, both of Ladson; one sister, Mina Lofland of Clayton, Del.; two nieces, Nancy Shepard of Hartsville, and Heather Weinacht of Atlanta, Ga.; three nephews, Billy Mullis of Hartsville, Michael Mullis of Batesburg, and Earl Lofland of Clayton, Del.

Arrangements are being handled by Parks Funeral Home Inc., 130 W. 1st North St., Summerville, SC 29483.

BARBARA WALTERS
Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara Ann Wasial Walters, 57, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with visitation following the mass. The Rev. Father Karl Roesch will officiate, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 363 N. Fifth St., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Walters died Monday, March 27. Born in Somerville, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Lauricella Wasial. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was the most loving mother in the world.

Surviving are her husband, Johnny Walters of Hartsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Debbie Fleckenstein of Hartsville, John Walters of Conway, Owin Walters of Hartsville; daughters, Stacy Fleckenstein of Hartsville, Antonia and Heath Moore of Surfside Beach; sister, Susan and Terry Wasial of Hartsville; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Val Wasial of Delanson, N.Y.; eight grandchildren.

BOBBIE PETTIGREW
Funeral services for Bobbie Pettigrew, 61, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Nathan Temple F.B.H. Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.

Mrs. Pettigrew died March 28, at her residence after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Willard and Lottie Smith Ketter. She received her education in the Darlington County public school system. Mrs. Pettigrew was a retired employee of the Darlington County School Systems, and was a member of Nathan Temple F.B.H. Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Lottie Hale, Angel M. Pettigrew and Omeshia (Ron) Moses all of Hartsville; one son, Franklin (Lisa) Pettigrew of Hartsville; five sisters, Wilhelmina (Tommy Lee) Cabbagestalk, Patricia Vinson, Deloris Covington, Lottie Omega (Wilbert) Jackson and Mary Phillips, all of Hartsville; one brother, Albert K. Burno of Worchester, Mass.; one brother-in-law, Monroe (Theo) Pettigrew of Hartsville; seven grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

ROSS FOX JR.
Funeral services for Ross Fox Jr. were held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. Frederick Yebuah, pastor of Wesley Chapel, officiated the service.

Mr. Fox was born Sept. 23, 1937, in Darlington County, a son of Ross Fox Sr. and Sarah Barker Ross. He departed this life for his heavenly home on March 25. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated from Mayo High School in 1959.

Mr. Fox joined Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age and served the church in many capacities. He retired from Nucor Steel after 20 years of continued service. Even after his retirement, he continued to work at various other jobs. Ross was united in marriage to the former Rosa Lee Carraway, who preceded him in death.

Surviving to cherish the loving and wonderful memories of Mr. Ross Fox Jr. are three sisters, Lizzie Wright of Bronx, N.Y., Sarah Bacote of Hartsville, and Rose Fox of Darlington; two brothers, Frank Fox of Baltimore, Md., and Willie Fox of Darlington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and very dear friends.
