Rebecca Bell Arthur Eaves
Former Union resident

SPARTANBURG - Rebecca (Becky) Anne Bell Eaves, 63, of 108 Ada Lane, Spartanburg, passed away Friday, September 12, 2003 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Dolly Bell Lancaster and Ellis Lionel Bell. She was Born February 27, 1940 in Spartanburg. Becky was a devoted Christian who always saw the good things in everyone and thanked God each day for the many blessings he had given her.

She was dearly loved by her family who looked to her for guidance and strength. Becky was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. She was a loving and caring mother, daughter and sister, who touched the lives of those around her with her Christian faith and wisdom.

Surviving are her son, Mickey Lee Arthur of Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Sylvia Josephine (Jo) Bell Cash Lowe and Tessie Delithia Lancaster of Spartanburg; a brother, Joe Stoots of Campobello; a nephew, Billy Dale Cash of Slidell, LA.; two nieces, Jennifer Ellis Lowe of Charlotte, N. C. and Carol Delithia Burke of Spartanburg; Three great-nieces, Bonnie Leigh Cash and Jennifer Lozano of Slidell, LA. and Shelby Ann Oxford of Spartanburg; and a great-nephew, Teddy Lozano of Slidell, LA.

She was predeceased by a son, Ryan Edward Arthur of Cannons Camp Ground who passed away on December 26, 2002. Visitation was held 6:30 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. today, September 15, 2003, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by Pastor Frank Bryant.

The family is at the home, 108 Ada Lane, Spartanburg, S. C. 29301. Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Ruth Goins
Retired from Inman Mills

BUFFALO Miss Ruth Goins, age 80, of 130 South St., Buffalo, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a lingering illness. Miss Goins was born in Buffalo, December 2, 1922, a daughter of the late David Jackson Goins, Sr., and Lona Esther Johnson Goins. Miss Goins retired from Inman Mills Enoree Plant and was formerly employed with United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she served as church Sunday School Secretary and Treasurer for many years.

Surviving are three sisters, Thelma Brock of New Ellington, Betty Revis and Peggy Ann Goins, both of the home; a brother, Howard (Cooter) Eugene Goins of Buffalo, a niece reared in the home, Denise Phipps of Buffalo; and a number of other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a nephew reared in the home, Mark Revis and two sisters, Addie Mae Greene and Magdaline Millwood; five brothers, David J. Goins Jr., Charlie Goins, Edward Goins, Elmer Goins, and Bobby Goins.

The family is at the home, 130 South Street, Buffalo. The S. R. Holcombe Funeral home has charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy S. Osborne
Union resident

Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Slaughter Osborne, of 147 Springdale Drive, widow of Edward L. B. Osborne, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, 2003, in St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Harold H. Sprouse
Retired from Carlisle Finishing

Mr. Harold H. (Teek) Sprouse, age 87, widower of Sara Lawson Sprouse, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003 in Oakmont Nursing Home after an extended illness. Mr. Sprouse was born in Kelton on April 25, 1916, a son of the late Wallace and Pauline Howell Sprouse. He was a member of the Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Sprouse was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and was retired from Cone Mill-Carlisle Finishing Plant.

Surviving are: a sister, Wallace Erma Blackmon of Union; two brothers, Samuel H. Sprouse and Ralph (Tot) Sprouse, both of Lockhart; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Sweat and the Rev. Alan West. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be: Harold Blackmon Jr., Donald Ralph Sprouse, Gene Sprouse, Danny Sprouse, Terry Sturgill, David Faucett, Sidney Lawson and Ray Finch. The following are asked to assemble at the church Thursday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Ulus Sturgill, Jimmy Faucett, Donald Garner, James Farr, Mike Manus, Ernest Morris Jr., Keith Dye, Toney Farr and Heyward (Buck) Sanders. Members of the Carlisle Hart Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 and will be placed in church at 2 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service. The family will be at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 392 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, S.C. 29353. The S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Sarah C. Stokes
Carlisle resident

CARLISLE Mrs. Sarah Cromer Stokes, age 97, of 1142 Tuckertown Road, Carlisle, widow of Thomas Aughtry Stokes, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at 2:30 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a extended illness. Mrs. Stokes was born in Helena, S.C. on April 14, 1906, a daughter of the late Ernest (Pap) and Sally Cromer. She was a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church and a member of the W. M. U. of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Surviving are: a daughter-in-law, Betty Vinson Stokes of the home; three grandchildren, Terrie Stokes Malone and husband, Danny Malone of Whitmire, Thomas Aughtry Stokes II and wife Kathy Stokes and Paul Christopher Stokes and wife, Erin Stokes, all of Tuckertown; six great-grandchildren, Thomas Stokes III, Joseph W. Chastain, Timothy Lee Chastain, Zachary W. Stokes, Kacie Stokes Tipton, and Jennifer N. Stokes; three great-great-grandchildren, Haleigh E. Tipton, Jameson B. Chastain and Taylor N. Tipton. Mrs. Stokes was predeceased by a son, William Aughtry Stokes, a sister, Lizzie Wilkes and a great-granddaughter, Cynthia Lynn Chastain.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Bethesda Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Steve Young and the Rev. Austin Bennett. Burial will be in the Kelly Chapel Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Thursday night from 7:30 until 9 and will be placed in church at 2 p.m. Friday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 1142 Tuckertown Road, Carlisle. Memorials may be made to Hospice of S. C. 128-C, Medical Science Drive, Union, S. C. 29379. The S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

The following are asked to assemble at the church Saturday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: James Whitehead, Mac Long, Michael Haney, Buddy Hackett, Olin D. Smith, Bud Willard, Ronald Cledenin, Jimmy Maness, Roy Turner and Tommy Willard.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 9 and will be placed in church at 2 pm. Saturday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 130 South Street, Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 728, Buffalo, S. C. 29321. The S. R. Holcombe Funeral home has charge of the arrangements.

Willis F. Kingsmore
Union native

ROCK HILL Mr. Willis Franklin Kingsmore, 82, husband of Louise West Kingsmore, of 1969-A Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Mr. Kingsmore was born in Union, July 3, 1921, a son of the late James M. and Vera Gregory Kingsmore. He was retired from Milliken & Co., Ottaray Plant, and was a graduate of Union High School. Mr. Kingsmore was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Union Elks Lodge #1321. He was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Audie Braddy of Rock Hill; three sisters, Mrs. R. M. (Lillie) Parks of Union, Mrs. Sam (Katherine) Spence of Augusta, and Mrs. Chandler (Audrey) Harmon of Georgetown. Graveside services with military rites will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Benny Green.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Friday night from 6 until 8. Memorials may be made to Mon Aetna Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1431 Lockhart Highway, Union, S. C., 29379. The S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy S. Osborne
Former WBCU official

Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Slaughter Osborne, 77, of 147 Springdale Drive, widow of Edward L. B. Osborne, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Osborne was born in Greenville on September 27, 1925, a daughter of the late Charles and Estelle Plunkett Slaughter. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and Furman University. Mrs. Osborne worked with her husband in the management and operations of radio station WBCU. During this time they were active in the S. C. Broadcaster's Association and community and civic affairs. Mrs. Osborne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She served as a volunteer for the Meals-On-Wheels and was an active member of Friends of the Union County Carnegie Library and a former board member of the Union County Mental Health Association. She was very active in many other organizations involving conservation and educational pursuits.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Guy Laurence Osborne and Angelina Carpenter Osborne of Jefferson City, Tennessee, and Michael E. Osborne and Suzanne Osborne of Orlando, Florida; six grandchildren, Aaron Osborne, Stephen Osborne, Rebecca Castleman, David Osborne, Jennifer Osborne and Michael Osborne; a great-granddaughter, Tyler Suzanne Castleman.

Mrs. Osborne was predeceased by a brother, Robert Graham Slaughter. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Charlie Horne. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Osborne's grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers.

The family is at the home, 147 Springdale Drive, and will receive friends at the church Saturday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 672, Union, S. C. 29379 or to Meals-On-Wheels, c/o Monte Lancaster, Arthur State Bank, Union, S. C. 29379. The S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
