Sarah Y. Jeter
Retired domestic worker

Sarah Young Jeter, 86, of White Oak Manor, Spartanburg, died at her residence Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003. Sje was born June 8, 1917, a daughter of the late John and Jannie Young. She was a retired domestic worker.

Surviving are a brother, John R. Young of Spartanburg; and sisters, Fannie M. Dawkins of Jonesville, Evelyn Simuel of Spartanburg, Kathleen Cheeks of Inman and Ethel L. Evans of Flint, Mich. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Society Cemetery, Union By-Pass. Visitation will be until 7 p.m. today. The family is at 285 Hickory Ridge Road, Jonesville. The Union Community Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Beatrice S. Williams
Retired from Fort Benning Post Exchange

PHENIX CITY, Ala. Beatrice Smith Williams, 79, widow of Bill Williams, of 499 Lee Rood, 238 Phenix City, Ala. died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at the Columbus, Ga., Medical Center after a period of declining health. Mrs. Williams was born in Union on Dec. 7, 1923, a daughter of the late Richard C. and Lillie Griffin Smith. She was a retired clerk at the Fort Benning Post Exchange. Mrs. Williams was previously a volunteer (Pink Lady) at the Columbus, Ga., Medical Center.

Surviving are two sons, Ralph F. Boulware Jr. and Fletcher (Reece) Boulware, both of Phenix City, Ala., a brother, Monroe Smith of Union; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Fryer, Catherine Robbins, Capt. Fletcher M. Boulware, Jr., M.D., Jason Wayne Boulware, Rodney Tabb, Brian Boulware, and Brandon Boulware; four great-grandchildren, Bambi Fryer, Jeff Fryer Jr., Cassi Robbins and Kevin Robbin Jr.; and a niece, Christine Vinson of Union.

Mrs. Williams was predeceased by a son, Douglas Wayne Boulware. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Roger Estes. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Kevin Robbins Sr., Jeff Fryer Sr., Timmy Vinson, Gene Vinson, Wayne Smith and Gerald Gregory Jr. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9. The family is at the home of Billy and Christine Vinson, 118 Baber St. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Mozelle C. McGrady
Kelton native

Mozelle Comer McGrady, 89, of 107 Spruce St., widow of Charles B. McGrady, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at 8:15 p.m. after an extended illness. Mrs. McGrady was born in Kelton on Dec. 16, 1913, a daughter of the late Claude and Nannie Gault Comer. She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Harold (Annie Belle Inman) Beason of Union; a sister, Dot Comer Farr of Union; nine grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Bill Lindler of Whitmire. Mrs. McGrady was predeceased by a daughter, Georgia Inman Lindler and four brothers, Emerson, Harry, Gilbert and Bill Comer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Alan West and the Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will be in the Mt. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Billy Lindler, Dan Lindler, Joe Comer, Jim Comer, Wayne Comer, Danny Comer, Leonard Comer and Carroll Comer.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Friday from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. The family is at the home, 107 Spruce St., Union. Memorials may be made to Mt. Joy Baptist Church, 657 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, S.C. 29353. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Louise Murphy
Union resident

Annie Louise Boling Murphy, 81, of Brittany Manor, 296 Meansville Road, widow of Robert Melton Murphy, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at 3:35 a.m. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Belle Louise Bailey
Retired teacher

WHITMIRE Belle Louise Bailey, 94, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, in Fort Washington, Md., at the home of her daughters, Brenda and Sara Bailey. A native of Whitmire, she was born on Dec. 14, 1909. Mrs. Bailey was educated in the Union County School system and later attended Claflin University in Orangeburg. She was a teacher in the public school system and in her later years a teacher's aide at Carver Middle School. She was a faithful member and dedicated musician for many years at the Sims Chapel Baptist Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Alice (Larue) Johnson of Capital Heights, Md., Brenda and Sara Bailey of Fort Washington, Md., Shirley Scott of Mt. Holly, N.C., Mary (Isaiah) Rice of Whitmire; a son, James Bailey of Fort Washington, Md. and a stepson, Amos Bailey of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Sara Wallace of Whitmire; eight grandchildren, Larue (Janet) Johnson Jr. of Plano, Texas, Curtis Johnson of Davidsonville, Md., Cheryl London of Hackensack, N.J., Debra Scott of Charlotte, N.C, the Rev. Anthony (Barbara) Wallace of Whitmire; four great-grandchildren, Mark and Brian Johnson of Plano, Texas, Jasmine and Crystal Wallace of Whitmire; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conduced at 1 p.m. Monday at Sims Chapel Baptist Church in Whitmire. Hunter Funeral Home of Whitmire has charge of arrangements.

The following are asked to assemble at the funeral chapel Friday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Bo Ham, Wayne Eaves, Donald Comer, W.C. Erwin, Garland Vaughn, Jay Coffer and Henry Vaughan. The staff of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home is asked to sit in a group.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Friday from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. The family is at the home, 107 Spruce St. Memorials may be made to Mt. Joy Baptist Church, 657 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, S.C. 29353. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Louise B. Murphy
Union Mill retiree

Annie Louise Boling Murphy, 81, widow of Robert M. Murphy of 296 Meansville Road, died in the home with the family, Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at 4:50 a.m. after an extended illness. Mrs. Murphy was born in Union on Aug. 9, 1922, a daughter of the late Charles Alexander and Lula Lee Tisdale Boling. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church where she served as pianist for the Golden Age Choir for a number of years. She was retired from Union Mill.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Carole and Steve Thornton of Denton, Texas, Barbara and Jimmy Waddell of Piedmont, Sheila and Kenny Jones of Union and Cyndy and Dean Templeton of Gray Court; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Paul and Mary Ann Murphy; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren:

Mrs. Murphy was predeceased by a daughter, Dianne Murphy Kirby and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4 pm. Friday at Westside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ken Snead, the Rev. Scott Cobb and Randolph Whitehead. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ken Jones Jr., Scott Templeton, Donald Upchurch, Jimmy Huffstickler, David Weed and Donald Sumner.

The following are asked to assemble at the church Friday at 3:45 to form the honorary escort: Erik Knudson, Terry Cody Jr., Jonathan Jones and James Waddell Jr. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in church at 3 p.m. Friday to await the hour of service.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Sheila and Kenny Jones, 194 Pinewood Acres, Union. Memorials may be made to Hospice Impallative Care of S.C., 945 E. Main St., Spartanburg, S.C. 29305. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Belle Louise Bailey
Retired teacher

James A. Jeter
Union County native

James Alexander Jeter, 48, of 410 W. Henrietta St., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. Mr. Jeter was born in Union County on March 5, 1955, the son of Robert and Sylvia Elmira Jeter. He attended Union County public schools.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two daughters, Yakeecha (Roderick) Sartor of Rock Hill and Ashia (Primes) Woodruff of Spartanburg; five brothers, Robert Jr. (Sherry) of Cherryville, N.C. , Aubrey and Clarence (Denise) of Wilmington, Del., Harold (Barbara) of Union, and Kenneth Lee (Rhonda) of Kelton; six sisters, Rosalind Doggette of Baldwin, N.Y. , Andrena (Larry) Jennings of Madison, Ala., Barbara (Leroy) of Simpsonville, Jacqueline of Spartanburg, Betty Ann and Cleverland of Union; two aunts, Christine (Edmond) Giles and Sarah Mae (Clinton) Gregory of Union; two uncles, Lonnie (Vera) Young and John Williams Young of Union.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Gibson & Brown Chapel. Burial will be in Antioch Society Cemetery. Gibson & Brown Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

James R. Kemp
Retired from Delta Airlines

PARIS, Tenn. James Richard Kemp, 68, husband of Joanna Sloan Kemp of Springville, Tenn., formerly of Union, died at his home in Springville Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003. Mr. Kemb was born in Denmark on June 18, 1935, a son of the late W. J. and Dorothy Hutto Kemp. He attended Clemson University and Presbyterian College.

After serving in the Air Force as a fighter pilot, he served his country in the S.C. Air National Guard and instructor of Force Pilots in Bainbridge, Ga. He retired after 31 years as a captain for Delta Airlines having been an instructor and flying national and international trips.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sheryl Jo Hutchinson of Springville; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and David Worthey of Arlington, Wash., a granddaughter, Sloan Marie Hutchinson of Springville; and a sister and brother-in-law, Ann K. and Walter Gregg of Columbia.

Memorial; services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Park United Methodist Church in Denmark. Burial will follow in Denmark Cemetery. Memorials may be made to, First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 107, Paris, Tenn. 38242 or Bethel Park United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 207, Denmark, S.C. 29042 or to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 672, Union, S.C. 29379. Mercer Funeral Home of Denmark has charge of arrangements.
