Herstine, Robert Augustus

CONWAY — Robert Augustus Herstine, 74, of Myrtle Trace died Saturday, June 1, 2002, in Conway Hospital.

Born in Bethlehem, Pa., he was an elder in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. and was a charter member of Celebration Presbyterian Church in Myrtle Beach and North Anderson Community Church-Presbyterian in Anderson. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a graduate of Penn State University, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.

He was previously employed with Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem and worked for 23 years with Engineered Custom Plastics in Easley. He retired from Precision Southeast in Myrtle Beach. Throughout his lifetime, he donated 23 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross and AnMed Center in Anderson.

Surviving are widow, Sally Roeder Herstine of Conway; son, Bradley S. Herstine of Pendleton; daughters, Karen H. Gunnels of Anderson and Lucinda P. Keesey of Naples, Fla.; brothers, Richards O. Herstine of Bethlehem; sister, Lucille Graber of Sebring, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Edward Augustus and Bertha Anne Wilt Herstine.

Memorial services are at 5 p.m. Wednesday at North Anderson Community Church-Presbyterian with the Revs. Susie Smith and Douglas Vaughan officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to North Anderson Community Church-Presbyterian, 4200 Liberty Highway, Anderson, S.C. 29621.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Rogers, Lollie ‘Polly’

HONEA PATH — Lollie “Polly” Mae McMillan Rogers, 85, formerly of Holiday Dam Road, widow of Vernon Johnson Rogers, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Pruitt Funeral Home.

Bopp, Donna Jean

Donna Jean Bopp, 50, of Anderson, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the Anderson Area Medical Center.

She was born in Binghamton, N.Y.

Surviving are widower, Robert Bopp of the home; father, Seymour Hoag of Binghamton; mother, Ruth Carey Coye of Anderson; sons, Michael Bopp and Gregory Bopp, both of Anderson; stepson, James Bopp of Binghamton; stepdaughter, Susan Aggati of Binghamton; sisters, Rebecca Clemente of Hilton Head and Patricia Hoag of Little Meadows, Pa.; and one step-grandson.

A private visitation will be held at the McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday.

Williams, Ruth

WILLIAMSTON — Ruth Naomi Rhodes Williams, 74, of 33 McAlister St. died Monday, April 22, 2002 at Riverside Nursing Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was retired from the J.P. Stevens Estes Plant and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Surviving are widower, Van Wilton Williams of the home; sons, Alton Ray Roach of Liberty, James Wendell Roach of Starr, Ronald Lee Yon of Williamston and Curtis Nathaniel Yon of Goose Creek; daughter, Janet Roach Wilson of Piedmont; stepson, Jeff Williams of Piedmont; stepdaughter, Lynn Williams of Piedmont; sister, Dorothy “Dot” Robinson of Laurens; brother, VR Rhodes of Williamston; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late Vonnie and Lillibell Thompson Rhodes. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Caldwell, Myrtle Burgess and Cecil Rainey; and three brothers, Arte Rhodes, Hubert Rhodes and Clyde Rhodes.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, Williamston, by the Revs. Jim Norris and Alton Midgett; burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Anderson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The family is at the home.

McCoy, James Earl

HONEA PATH — James Earl McCoy, 62, of 106 Carolina Ave. died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at his home.

Born in Anderson County, he was formerly employed by the Honea Path Chronicle and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He attended the Honea Path Church of God.

Surviving are son, Robin McCoy of Atlanta; daughter, Patty Buff of Ware Shoals; mother, Asilee Adams McCoy of Honea Path; sister, Faye McCoy Compton of Honea Path; and one granddaughter.

He was the son of the late Ervin Milford McCoy and was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie McCoy; and a sister, Barbara Vassar.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eastview Cemetery with the Revs. George Cooper and George Britt officiating. The body is at Pruitt Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The family is at the home.

Brock, Rebecca

WALHALLA — Rebecca White Brock, 62, of 301 Playground Road died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at her residence.

A native of Hart County, she was a retired employee of the Oconee County Assessors Office and a member of Hartwell First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are widower, Robert Olin Brock of the home; son, Robert Greg Brock of Seneca; daughters, Kimberly Pritchett, Lisa Ellen Brock and Dana F. Brock, all of Walhalla; brothers, John Walker White, Robert White and Doug White, all of Hartwell, Ga.; sisters, Ruby Morris of Hartwell and Maude Woodall of Royston, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late John H. and Phenida Wilson White. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Jean; and three sisters, Ida Mae Addison, Evelyn White and Martha Jane Willis.

Services are at 4 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Davenport Funeral Home; burial to follow in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family is at the residence.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, S.C. 29672.

Blanding, James

CLEMSON — James Nicholas “Nick” Blanding, 37, of 101 Riding Road died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at the Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, he attended New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Cassey Blanding, Brittany Watson and Nikesha Blanding, all of Clemson; sons, Deldrie Watson and Tre Blanding, both of Clemson; parents, James Edward and Ruthaleen Williams Blanding; sisters, Monica Mangram of Atlanta and Mary Cunningham of Anderson; brothers, Fredrick Blanding, Bartholomew Blanding and Orlando Blanding, all of Anderson; and one grandchild.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church; interment will be in New Light Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 7:30 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Anderson. The body will be placed in the church at noon Thursday.

The family is at the home of his parents, 115 Blanding Drive, Anderson.

Bennett, Amelia V. ‘Ginny’

INMAN — Amelia Virginia Bennett, 66, of 200 Fortress Drive, formerly of 581 Bethesda Road died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Rosecrest Nursing Home.

A native of Anderson County, she retired from S & S Manufacturing after 30 years of service and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are widower, William Leonard Bennett; daughters, Debbie Littlefield of Spartanburg and Susan Amelia Greene of Ellenboro, N.C.; sisters, Trudy Sanders and Barbara Ethridge, both of Anderson; brothers, Ronnie Mark Graham and Jack Graham, both of LaFrance; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was the daughter of the late Ronnie and Jessie Mae Madden Graham. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Gail Bishop.

Graveside services are at 4 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with the Revs. Kenny Moore, Gene Baker and Alan Taylor officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Special Needs Fund, 120 Heywood Avenue, Suite 300, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.

Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Strang, Lucille

DEMOREST, Ga. — Lucille Elsner Strang, 99, of Demorest died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Habersham County Medical Center.

Born in Appleton, Wis., she was taught physical education in Dallas until 1940. She was the minister of the Central Congregational Christian Church in Dallas and she taught Sunday school there as well as in Dubuque and Marshallltown, Iowa. She was previously an officer with the Girl Scout Program in Dubuque and conducted a clothing resale program for Piedmont College.

Surviving are brothers, Gordon Elsner and Stuart Elsner of Appleton; and sisters, Verona Smith of Neenah, Wis., Eldora Inman of Grand Junction, Colo. and Jane Smith of Seymour, Wis.

She was the widow of Dr. Max Strang and the daughter of the late Louis and Theresa Christl Elsner. She was preceded in death by a brother, Willis Elsner.

Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Thursday from Yonah Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Richard Scoggins officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to Habersham Terraces, 111 Habersham Terraces Drive, Demorest, Ga. 30535.

Hix, Bill

LAWRENCEVILLE — Bill Hix, 51, of Lawrenceville died Saturday, April 20, 2002.

A native of South Carolina, he was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church, Lawrenceville. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served with the 20th Engineer Brigade.

Surviving are widow, Edith Hix of Lawrenceville; son, Tommy Hix of Lawrenceville; mother, Savannah Hix of Westminster; brother, Ray Hix of Westminster; and a sister, Jean Cox of Seneca.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Tim Stewart Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, with Dr. David Janzen and the Rev. John Colbaugh; interment will be in Gwinnett Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Harris, Joshua S.

TOCCOA, Ga. — Joshua Shawn Harris, 10, of 6421 Ga. 320 died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Stephens County Hospital.

Born in Hart County, he attended the New Bethel Baptist Church and was a special education student at Carnesville Elementary School.

Surviving are parents, Jeffery Monroe Harris and Connie Kay Banks Harris of the home; brother, Jeffery Trent Harris of the home; paternal grandmother, Myrtle Harris of Lavonia; and maternal grandmother, Idell Banks of Tallapoosa, Ga.

Services are at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the New Bethel Baptist Church by the Revs. Tommy Childress, Bruce Moore and Duane Eller; interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to lie until the funeral hour. The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hamby Funeral Home, Lavonia.

At times other than calling hours at the funeral home, the family will be at the home of Dykes Dalrymple, 4635 Ga. 198, New Bethel Community.

Gilstrap, Burton

ALTO, Ga. — Burton J. Gilstrap, 56, of Alto died Monday, April 22, 2002, at a private nursing home.

Born in Habersham County, he was retired from Mount Vernon Mills and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sister, Rosita Glenn of Gainesville, one nephew, one niece and one great-niece.

He was the son of the late Seaborn and Beulah Pless Gilstrap. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Troyce Gilstrap and Cline Gilstrap, and two sisters, Julia Riddle and Loraine Grier.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church by the Revs. Sanford Kimbrell and Anthony Shore; interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The family is at the residence.
