VARNES, Harry
Entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 23, 2002, Harry Leland Varnes, husband of Penny Varnes. Residence, Jacksonville, Florida. The relatives and friends of Harry Leland Varnes are invited to attend his funeral services in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL Saturday morning, September 28, 2002 at 11 o'clock. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr's Greenridge Road Chapel Friday evening, September 27, 2002 between 6:00 and 8:00 o'clock.
Mr. Varnes was born December 28, 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Samuel Varnes and Mary Collins Varnes Coghlan. He was a member of Midland Park Baptist Church and an auto mechanic.
He is survived by his mother of Summerville, SC; his wife of Florida; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita Haughney and Pat of Groton, Mass., Cindy Hewitt and Jimmy of North Charleston, SC, Brenda Hunter and Jimmy of Hanahan, SC, Belva Alexander and Don of Summerville, SC.

HORLBACK, Mary
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Mary Alma Horlback are invited to attend her funeral services, Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at 11 a.m., at Olive Branch AME Church, 1734 Hwy. 17 North, Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Interment, church cemetery.
Her husband Mr. Fred Horlback, survives Mrs. Horlback, five daughters, Mrs. Mary Cummings (Nathaniel), Mrs. Emily Gilliard (Albert), Mrs. Joann Singleton (Nathaniel), Ms. Laverne Horlback and Ms. Mary Louise Horlback. Four sons Mr. Fred Steed, Jr. (Albertha), Mr. James Horlback, Mr. Robert Horlback and Mr. Donald Horlback. Three brothers Mr. Herbert Mazyck, Mr. William Capers, Louis Brown and Mr. George Steed, Jr. Two sisters Mrs. Lillian Greer and Mrs. Justine Fludd (John). 31 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

KARALL, Dorothy
Mrs. Dorothy Traynor Karall, 79, died on September 4, 2002, in Chicago, IL. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at Saint Alphonsus Church in Chicago, IL.
Mrs. Karall was born December 31, 1922 in Charleston, SC. She was the daughter of Leo Mario Traynor and Dorothy Melchers Traynor. She graduated cum laude from the University of South Carolina with a BA in Fine Arts and English. In 1943, during World War II, she enlisted in the then newly formed Women Marines and served until 1946.
Mrs. Karall is survived by her husband of 54 years, Rudolph J. Karall; five sons, David, Frank, Robert, Leo, and Steve, and four grandchildren, all of Chicago; her sister, Barbara Traynor Pack, and aunt, Virginia D. Cone, both of Charleston. She was predeceased by a brother, Leo M. Traynor, Jr. in 1986.

SCHAULS, James
Entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 22, 2002. Mr. James Schauls. He was the loving brother of Mrs. Julian Hutchinson and Mr. Ben Schauls. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Mrs. Julia Hutchinson 1051 Theodore Rd. Awendaw, SC.

TAMSBERG, Theresa
Theresa S. Tamsberg, 60, of California, formerly of Charleston, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2002. Born in Charleston to the late Charles McMillan and Catherine M. Oliver Smith. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving Ms. Tamsberg are her two daughters, Elaine Salmonsen of Culver City, CA, and Linda Flynn of Summerville; a brother, Matthew Smith of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Catherine Haley of Virginia Beach, VA, Frances Anne Harter of Belleville, Ill., and Mary Poirier of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving Ms. Tamsberg are four grandchildren, Chelsea, Jessica, Christina, and Lauren. The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 PM on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. A reflection and celebration of Theresa's life will be held at 1:30 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Holy Cross cemetery. HARRIS, Robert
Robert "Rob" Hylan Harris, 32, of Summerville, died Monday, September 23, 2002. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2002, 11 AM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, burial to follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 10, 1970, he was the son of James "Hylan" Harris and the late Sandra Jones Harris.
Mr. Harris worked with a local construction company. He was a member of the Faith Assembly.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, James "Hylan" and Cheryl Harris of Goose Creek; paternal grandmother, Lovie L. Melton of Rutherfordton County, NC; sister, Kelli Renee Harris of Mt. Pleasant; stepsister Terri Locke of North Charleston; stepbrother, Paul Pattison of North Charleston.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 24, 2002, 6 - 8 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston. Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 10360 Hwy 78 E., Summerville, SC 29483.

DOBSON, Marie
Marie Catherine Dobson, 76, died Saturday, September 21, 2002, at her home in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Born June 11, 1926, in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Dewey Francis Mollomo and Alice Mary Mollomo (nee Cusick). She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Regis College, Weston, Mass., and worked for many years in cancer research. The director of her laboratory at the University of Chicago was later awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine. Mrs. Dobson was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church and Snee Farm Country Club. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Richard L. Dobson; son, Richard L. Dobson, Jr., Burke, Va.; two daughters, Pamela Blair Hoyt and Lisa Marie Craven, both of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, Dewey Francis Mollomo, Jr., and Paul Richard Mollomo; four sisters, Catherine Elaine Staniunas, Corrine Jane LaRoche, Claudia Joan Galluzzo, and Natalie Shaw; and four granddaughters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at Christ Our King Catholic Church with entombment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, S.C. 29464, is serving the Dobson family. MCCANTS, Leroy
ST. GEORGE - Leroy McCants, 69, a retired postal employee died Thursday, September 19, 2002, in Fayetteville, N.C. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at the Shady Grove United Methodist Church, St. George, S.C., with Dr. John H. Elliott, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by LING FUNERAL HOME OF ST. GEORGE. (843) 563-3589, 5580 Memorial Blvd.
The McCants family will receive family and friends, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday evening, September 24, 2002, at the Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Mr. McCants was born March 28, 1933, in St. George, S.C., a son of the late Elliott McCants and Mr. Lillian McCants. He attended the public schools of Dorchester County and was a member of the Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Upon moving to Washington, D.C., he became an employee of the Department of Highways and Traffic. He later moved to Bronx, N.Y., where he was employed for 27 years with the United States Postal Service prior to his retirement.
Surviving are his devoted wife for 47 years, Mrs. Susie Smith McCants of Fayetteville, N.C., one beloved daughter, Mrs. India McCants (Charles) McDuffie of Fayetteville, N.C., two God-daughters, Leona Jones of Yonkers, N.Y., and Gwendolyn Smalls of Bronx, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Bruce of St. George, S.C., and Mrs. Rosebud M. Allen of New York City; five step-brothers, three step-sisters, three grandchildren, Shaqueena Shuler, Armani Leroy McCants and Jeremiah McCants all of Fayetteville, N.C. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other beloved relatives and friends.
