Ralph E. Farr Sr.
Retired ASCS State Director

Ralph Edward Farr Sr., 86, husband of Mary Estes Farr of 118 Douglas Heights, Union, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at 6:35 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Farr was born in Union County on Sept. 12, 1917, a son of the late Marvin and Kate Brown Farr.

He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and Perry's Business School. He was employed for 42 years with the ASCS (Agricultural, Stabilization and Conservation Service), USDA. He worked as clerk, office manager of the Union County office, served as district director and retired as state director. He was co-sponsor of SCASCOE (S.C. Association of County Office Employees) serving as president and Southeastern Area Director. Mr. Farr was a veteran of World War II, having served as an officer with the U.S. Army Transportation Corps, he also served several years as an offier with the S.C. National Guard, Lockhart Unit.

Mr. Farr was a member of the Union Lions Club, having served as president, treasurer, and deputy district governor. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, former member of the church choir, superintendent of Sunday School, president of the Men's Bible Class, Sunday School teacher and long-time chairman of the Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery Committee.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years are a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and June Farr of Union; a daughter, Rebecca Farr Stone of Ludington, Mich.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ned and Laura V. Farr of Union; two sisters, Katherine F. Lewis of Union and Eloise F. Hook of Columbia; three grandsons, Rock Stone and wife Jennifer of Mt. Pleasant, N.C., Chris Farr and Andy Farr of Union; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Farr and Luke Stone as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Gary Byrd. The family received friends in the church parlor following the graveside service. The family is at the home, 118 Douglas Heights, Union. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, S. Church Street, Union, S.C. 29379 or to a charity of one's choice. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Arthur F. McFalls
Retired from Buffalo Mill

Arthur Fisher McFalls, 86, husband of Mary Ruth Knox McFalls, of 1395 Pineland Road, Union, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at 1:20 p.m. in Oakmont Nursing Home. Mr. McFalls was born in Old Fort, N.C., on Jan. 22, 1917, a son of the late George Washington McFalls and Nannie Fisher McFalls. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Bob Wafful of Hobbs, N.M.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Eugenia McFalls and Ervin and Diane McFalls, all of Union; a brother and sister-in-law, S. B. and Ruby McFalls of Old Fort, N.C. and a number of grandchildren, Rhonda and David Lee, Ricky and Dee McFalls, Mickey and Brandy McFalls, Jackie and Keith Thompson, all of Union; Teresa Peterson and Ronnie Peterson of Hobbs, N.M., Patty and Jerry Ivey of Buffalo, Timmy and Jennifer McFalls of Union, Jeff and Cathy McFalls of Pacolet, a number of great-grandchildren, Neal and Brook Lee of Ft. Hood, Tex., Christine and Donnie Brown of Hobbs, N.M., Brooks Lee, Crystal McFalls, Katrina Ivey, Amanda Ivey, Matthew Thompson, Bradley Thompson, Gailtlyn Thompson, Karen and Daniel McFalls, all of Union; Jeremy Peterson of Texas and Joshua Peterson of Hobbs, N.M.; one great-great-grandchild, Taylor Wright of Hobbs, N.M.; and a number of step-grandchildren.

Mr. McFalls was predeceased by a sister and brother, Nancy Orr and Perry McFalls. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Sweat and the Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Ricky McFalls, Mickey McFalls, Timmy McFalls, Jeff McFalls, Brooks Lee and Brad Thompson.

The body remained at the funeral home where the family received friends Sunday night from 6 until 9 and was placed in the church at 1 p.m. today to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of his granddaughter, Rhonda and David Lee, 513 Lakeview Heights, Union. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 1622 Kelly Road, Union, S.C. 29379 or to New Hope Baptist Church, Linersville Road, Buffalo, S.C. 29321. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Donald D. Adams Sr.
U.S. Army veteran

JONESVILLE - Donald Dean Adams Sr., 64, husband of Glenda N. Adams, of 151 Park Drive, Jonesville, died at his residence Nov. 4, 2002, at 4 a.m. after an extended illness. Mr. Adams was born in Union on March 15, 1938, a son of Ada Harris Adams of Union and the late David Adams. He was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church. Mr. Adams was a graduate of Jonesville High, Class of 1956, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Dutchman Correctional Institute.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are three sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Julie Adams of Jonesville, Mark and Haila Adams of Pacolet and Jay and Crystal Adams of Gaffney; two sisters, Shirley Hooper of Simpsonville and Jean Wright of Union; two brothers, Ted Adams and Charles Adams both of Union; four grandchildren, Jade Adams, Charner Adams, Mitch Adams and Anthony Adams.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Jonesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7-9 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 151 Park Drive, Jonesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jonesville Baptist Church Christian Life Center, PO Box 279, Jonesville, SC 29353. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Emerson Senn
Retired from Torrington

Leland Emerson Senn, 72, of 307 Catawba St., husband of Ester Sturgis Senn, died Nov. 2, 2002 at 7:15 a.m. in Oakmont Nursing Home. Mr. Senn was born in Cross Keys on Feb. 5, 1930, a son of the late Leonard Boyd Senn and Leila Stevens Senn. He was a member of Padgetts Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Senn was a graduate of Cross Anchor High School and was retired data processing supervisor with Torrington Company.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ruth Senn and George W. Thompson III of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Richard Charles Senn of Richmond, Va.; four sisters: Ruth Senn Huggins, Sue Senn Blackwell and Grace Senn James, all of Union, and Gertrude Senn Williamson of Spartanburg. Mr. Senn was predeceased by a brother, L.B. Senn.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Padgetts Creek Baptist Church cemetery conducted by the Rev. Keith Andrews and the Rev. Neil Keisler. The body remained at the funeral home where the family received friends Sunday night from 7-8:30. The family is at the home, 307 Catawba St., Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Ruby Lee Stevens
Former tour guide

Ruby Lee Stevens, 92, of Union, died Nov. 3, 2002, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Spartan-burg. Born on Sept. 1, 1910 in Brownsville, Paulding County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Coleman H. and Lucy Connally Hendrick of Georgia and the widow of Walter Stevens of Union.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Stevens is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Joseph L. (Cris) Crissinger; a number of nieces and nephews; by her very special friends, Jean and Gene Busch, Monte Lancaster and Peggy Waller; and her special grand-cat, Molly Matilda. Mrs. Stevens attended Atlanta schools and Spartanburg High School.

She was the 4th place winner in the Miss Spartanburg contest, held at Rainbow Lake in August 1935. She worked at Kress Dime Store in Spartanburg until her marriage in 1936. She was a former member and two-term past Worthy Matron of Martha Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Mrs. Stevens worked for 30 years with her husband at their Stevens Furniture Store in Union and later assisted him when he worked with and later managed the Floyd Mortuary branch in Union and when he was the manager of the Union Memorial Gardens.

Beginning in 1974, she was a guide and later the Head Tour Guide at Walnut Grove, she was awarded the 1994 Hospitality Employee of the Year Award by the Discover Upcountry Carolina Association. Visitation will be held tonight from 7-9 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Wayne A. Stevens at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.

Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice or to Southern Care Hospice, Suite D-11, 1097 Highway 101 South, Greer, SC 29651. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Donald L. Wells II
Austin Center employee

Donald Leach Wells, II, 18, of 1375 Sardis Road, died Nov. 2, 2002. Mr. Wells was born in Spartanburg on Dec. 6, 1983, a son of Donald L. Wells Sr. and Beth Wilson Wells of Union. He was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.

Mr. Wells was a 2002 graduate of Union High School where he played offensive lineman on the 1999 and 2000 State Championship Football teams and also on the 2001 Upper State Championship football team. He attended USC-Union and was employed by Austin Rehabilitation Center.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Clint Russell Wells and Paul Mitchell Wells, both of the home; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Nina Greer Wilson of Union; his paternal grandmother Robbie N. Wells of Columbia; and two uncles, Charles W. Wilson Jr. and James G. Wilson, both of Union.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Floyd W. Wells. Funeral services will be held at 4 p. m. Wednesday at Sardis United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Angelia Price. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Members of the 2001 Union High School football team are asked to assemble Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. and will be placed in church at 3 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson Sr., 1385 Sardis Road. Memorials may be made to the Perpetual Care Fund of Sardis United Methodist Church, 964 Sardis Road, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Jack D. Hicks
Retired from TRW

Jack D. Hicks, 84, of 1428 Peach Orchard Road, Union, widower of Mary Elizabeth Mabry Hicks, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at 9:02 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Hicks was born in Union on Dec. 6, 1918, a son of the late Charlie Hicks and Mary Lybrand Hicks, and step-son of the late Aurie Hicks. He was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church and a life-long member of the U.S. Sportsman's Club. Mr. Hicks was retired from TRW.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Pat. G. Hicks of Union; a sister, Margaret H. Camner of Lexington; two grandchildren, Tami H. Newton and Mark Dale Hicks, both of Union and four great-grandchildren, Kyle Newton, Ashley Newton, Kenna Newton and Tori Hicks, all of Union. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ralph Bowling.

The family is at the home of his son, Dale and Pat Hicks, 1438 Peach Orchard Road, Union. Memorials may be made to Duncan Acres United Methodist Church, 417 Rice Ave., Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
