PETERS, Lester
Lester Gordon Peters, 74, beloved husband of Patricia J. Peters, of Charleston, died Wednesday, September 4, at a local hospital. Born in Charleston to the late Holland McKissick Peters, Sr., and Lucy Missouri Wimberly Peters. He was a graduate of Rivers High School and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Peters will be most remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Peters, three sisters, Frances Peters Keller, Ethel Carolyn Peters, Nell Peters Mael, and a brother-in-law, Edward Michael Jones. Mr. Peters is survived by his wife, three sons, Lester G. Peters, Jr., of Charleston, Timothy McK. Peters, Sr., and his wife Kay Holton Peters of Kernersville, N.C., and Patrick Jones Peters and his wife Pamela Hammond Peters of Sumter, S.C., two daughters, Lucy Marie Peters, and Nancy Ann Peters, both of Johns Island, S.C., a brother, Holland McKissick Peters, and Nancy Ann Peters, both of Johns Island, S.C., a brother, Holland McKissick Peters, a brother-in-law, John and his wife Becky Jones and a sister-in-law, Lynda C. Jones. Also survived by four grandchildren, Timothy McK. Peters, Jr., Kristen Colleen Peters, Thomas Holton Peters, and Patrick Donnelly Peters, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 5, at MCALISTER-SMITH DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St., with a Rosary Service being recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, September 6, at the funeral home chapel. FRANKLIN, Lloyd
COTTAGEVILLE - Lloyd Henry Franklin, Sr., 81, retired from the US Army, died Friday at White Oak Manor in Charleston.
Memorial services, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, directed by the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
Mr. Franklin was born June 2, 1921 in Lostant, IL, a son of the late Joseph Franklin and Emma Mae Gibson Franklin. He was a member of Cottageville United Methodist Church and was a veteran of WW II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was the widower of Harriette Breland Franklin.
Surviving are two sons, L. Henry Franklin, Jr. of Bowie, AZ, Joseph H. Franklin of Cottagevile; two daughters, Barbara Upchurch of Bowie, AZ, Eva Lee Franklin of Eastover; two brothers, Paul Franklin of Bloomington, IL, Welby Franklin of Fort Wayne, IN; a sister, Mary Trueblood of Bloomington, IL; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren.

GREGG, Margaret
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Margaret W. Gregg are invited to attend her funeral graveside services at Arlington National cemetery, Wednesday morning, September 18, 2002 at 9 o'clock. Pulling, 2005 Pinopolis Road, Pinopolis from 1 until 3 PM, Sunday afternoon, September 8, 2002. FLOYD, Benjamin
Sgt. Benjamin Franklin "Bennie" Floyd, USAF (Ret.), 63, of Hollywood, husband of Chong Su Lee Floyd, died Tuesday, September 3, 2002 in a North Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 6, 2002 at 4:30 PM in Christ St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hollywood. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, from 6 until 8 o'clock this evening.
Mr. Floyd was born on April 5, 1939 in Charleston, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Floyd, Sr. and Margaret Mary Sanders Floyd. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, having served for 20 years. After serving in the United States Air Force, he worked as a Landscape Supervisor with Samuel McDonald Incorporated. He was a member of Christ St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hollywood and VFW Post #15042.
Surviving are his wife of Hollywood; daughter, Susan Floyd of Summerville; 2 sons, Benjamin F. Floyd, Jr. of Hollywood, Richard Floyd of Hollywood; 2 sisters, Maria F. Middleton of Hollywood, Mary F. Mullinax of Hollywood; many loving nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Myong Park of Hollywood; brother-in-law, Jong Tae and his wife Song Ja Lee and their children, Heather and Grace.

KELLY, Eugene
Eugene W. Kelly, Sr., 85, widower of Beverly Nugent Kelly of Charleston, died Sunday, September 1, 2002 at a local hospital. Born in Mt. Pleasant in 1917, Mr. Kelly was a lifelong resident of Charleston, attending Charleston public schools and began his professional career in the first apprentice class at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Mr. Kelly served 35 years in the Federal Civil Service and quickly became a supervisor planner and estimator and a supervisor production controller for SuptShip Six. He received several meritorious service awards for innovative improvement suggestions. In 1954 he received the highest award given at that time for innovative suggestion. Following retirement, Mr. Kelly then worked for 17 years on the Charleston Waterfront. Mr. Kelly was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and attended Our Lady of Good Counsel. He was an active supporter of Bishop England High School, serving as president of the Triple B Club in 1953. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Charleston Elks Lodge #242. Among Mr. Kelly's Leisure activities, he was particularly fond of vacations and outings at Folly Beach, where, being a devoted family man, he spent much time with his wife Beverly and their family. Mrs. Kelly died in 1999 during the 64th year of their marriage. Survivors include three sons, Eugene W. Kelly, Jr. and his wife Joan of Alexandria, VA, William A. Kelly, Sr. and his wife Annette of Charleston, Robert S. Kelly, Sr. and his wife Linda of North Charleston. His brother-in-law, William Nugent also survives him along with nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He had two brothers, Robert S. Kelly and Edwin Kelly. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Thursday, September 5, 2002 at Our Lady of Good Counsel on Folly Beach. Interment will follow in Holy Cross cemetery. HAYNIE, Ann
G. Ann Haynie, 59, of North Charleston, wife of Adrian O. Haynie, died Monday, September 2, 2002 in a North Charleston hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at 11 o'clock in Dorchester Memorial Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville.
Friends may call James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, from 6 until 8 o'clock this evening.

Mrs. Haynie was born on November 20, 1942 in Hammond, Indiana, a daughter of the late Holbert Finus Ray and Alma Grayson Ray. She was a graduate of Hammond Tech High School in Hammond, Indiana. She was a member of Crosstitch Pals. She was a former bookkeeper for Cities in Schools and Juvenile Restitution Program.
Surviving are her husband of North Charleston; 2 daughters, Kimberly Bendt of Ladson, Elizabeth Williamson of Conway; 6 grandchildren; one sister, Edna Bleck of Crestline, OH.

ELSEY, Minnie
WEST COLUMBIA, SC - Mrs. Minnie Hiers Elsey, 70, died Monday in the Palmetto Baptist Medical Center, Columbia, SC.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, September 6, 2002 in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harry Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Reedy Branch Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Thursday evening at MOLE FUNERAL HOME OF BARNWELL, SC.
Mrs. Elsey was born in Barnwell County and was the daughter of the late Guy Ruby and Evelyn Sanders Hiers.
Survivors include one son, Danny Hiers of Greenville, SC; two daughters, Dorothy DeMeza of Barnwell, SC, Daisy Player of West Columbia, SC; one stepdaughter, Karen Engle of Clearwater, FL; one brother, Guy Ruby Hiers, Jr. of Hanahan, SC; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. Three sisters predeceased her, Mary Hiers Ash, Newell Hiers Croft, and Martha Freeman.
