Ruth Hazel Stone Kelly

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Ruth Hazel Stone Kelly, age 89, died Thursday, April 21, 2016.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Friendship United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 24, 2016 prior to the service at the Church.

Mrs. Kelly was born October 9, 1926 in Morven, NC a daughter of the late Paul and Nettie Adams Williams. She was a business college graduate and a cosmetologist for 64 years. Mrs. Kelly was owner and operator of Hazel’s Beauty Shop and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. Ruth enjoyed crafts and growing pretty flowers. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Joel Stone, a daughter, Cheryl Stone Barefoot, and by her brother C. P. Williams.

Survivors include 1 Son: Paul Ellis (Mary Ellen) Stone of Chesterfield, SC; 1 Daughter: Debbie (Johnny) McLain of Chesterfield, SC; Daughter of the heart: Kim (Jim) Price of Matthews, NC;

6 Grandchildren: Rodney (Tina) Stone, Laurie (Jim) Tarleton, Joel (Kristen) McLain, John (Ashley) McLain, Paul (Tamara) Barefoot, and Alison Barefoot; Also 14 Great Grandchildren; and Special Friend: Sue Rivers of Chesterfield, SC.

Memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church “Building Fund, ” c/o Sylvia Hurst, 1790 Highway 742, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Catie Mae Marshall

PAGELAND – Catie Mae Marshall, 91, died on Friday, April 15, 2016. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 3pm from the Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the Nicey Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Pageland, South Carolina. She was born on February 22, 1925 to the late Albert and Odell Smith McCray in Dillon County, SC. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Marshall, of the home; three sisters, Retha Burch, Coletha Giles, both of Pageland, SC and Marie Burr, Patrick, SC. Flemming Funerals-Pageland was in charge. .

Betty Matheson

CHERAW – Betty Matheson, 73, passed away Friday December 25, 2015.

Born in Cheraw, SC she was the daughter of the late Jesse “Dock” and Alene Matheson. Betty taught and retired from Northeastern Technical College. She was an active member of Cheraw First Baptist Church and played the piano at other area churches for many years until Alzheimer’s prevented her from continuing her service.

She is survived by her two children, Connie Evans Garberich of Dana Point, CA. and Eddie Evans of Ridgeway, SC.; sister Brenda Cranford of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren Jake Evans, Michael Garberich, Gracyn Garberich, Garrett Garberich.

A memorial service will be held Saturday May 7, 2016 at 2PM at Kevin Lear on Main. The family welcomes friends to attend.

Brenda Gale Quick Munnerlyn

DARLINGTON - Brenda Gale Quick Munnerlyn, 68, died Sunday, April 17, 2016. Born in Cheraw, SC she was a daughter of the late Rev. W.D. and Ollie White Quick. She was a member of Palmetto Street Church of God, Florence, SC.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Munnerlyn, Jr. of Darlington, SC, a son, Jason Marvin Munnerlyn of Darlington, SC, a daughter, Amy M. (Kevin) Poston of Pamplico, SC, a brother, William Irvin (Pam) Quick of Garner, NC, a sister, Karen Q. (Randel) Melton of Cheraw, SC and a grandchild, Hailey Poston.

The family received friends 11:00 am to 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Palmetto Street Church of God, Florence, SC. A funeral service was held 12:00 Noon Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Palmetto Street Church of God, Florence, SC. Burial was at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Betty Twisdale Dickens

CHERAW - Betty Twisdale Dickens, 82, died Sunday, April 10, 2016. She was born in Enfield, NC. Mrs. Dickens was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, getting her house just the way she wanted it, and she loved her close friends. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Robert G. “Bob” Dickens of Cheraw, SC, sons, Steve Dickens and his fiancé, Isabel Gallardo of Monroe, NC, Tom Dickens of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Kim Williamson and her husband Dr. Jimmie Williamson of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Jordan Williamson, Spencer Dickens and Jake Williamson.

The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home, SC; also, the family will be gathering at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Jimmie Williamson, 408 Third Street, Cheraw, SC 29520.

Vera Goodwin Kimery

CHERAW – Mrs. Vera Goodwin Kimery, age 84, died Sunday, March 27, 2016.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 30, 2015, at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Kimrey was born January 20, 1932, in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Henry Frank and Lillie Hilliard Goodwin. She was a homemaker and a member of North Cheraw Baptist Church. She enjoyed growing pretty flowers. Vera also enjoyed her trips to McBee, SC for peaches and her trips to the mountains for apples and cabbage, which she and her husband shared with family and friends. In addition to her parents, Vera was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Douglas Houston Kimrey, her son-in-law, Mike White, and by a brother, Curtis Goodwin.

Survivors include Son: Chuck (Joyce) Kimery of Lexington, SC; Daughter: Sheila Kimrey White of Winston Salem, NC; 4 Grandchildren: Michael (Hillary) White, Jr., William Wesley White, Ashley (David) Drummond, and Houston (Sarah) Kimrey Also 7 Great Grandchildren; 2 Brothers: Henry F. “Jay” (Shirley) Goodwin of Franklin, VA and Harold Goodwin of McNeill, MS; and 1 Sister: Blanche G. Allen of Hartsville, SC.

Annie Miller

JEFFERSON – Annie Miller, 99 died on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 2pm from the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, Jefferson, SC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She was born to the late Ollie Miller and Preston Miller on April 8, 1917 in Jefferson, South Carolina. Survivors: fourteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and twenty-five great great grandchildren. Flemming Funerals-Pageland was in charge. .

Lois Smith Parks

MORROW, Ga. – Mrs. Lois Smith Parks, age 82, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, April 15, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, 318 E. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Mrs. Parks was born September 23, 1933 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late James Kirby and Ella Maude Freeman Smith. She was a retired employee of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Lois was also preceded in death by her husband, Lindsey Eugene Parks; 1 sister, Carolyn S. Coley; and 4 brothers, Glenn, Bill, Jack, and Rex Smith.

Survivors include 2 Sons: Donald Parks of Lakeland, FL and James (Regina) Parks of Danielsville, GA; 3 Daughters: Joyce Shelton of Forest Park, GA, Debra (Steven) Tucker of Attalla, AL, and Melissa (Antonio) Griffin of Rex, GA; 7 Grandchildren: Robert Eugene Tucker, Amanda Michelle Tucker, Brittani Michelle Maddox, James William Parks, Jr., Alfred Lee Troy, III, Braxston Chandler Griffin, and Shannon Michelle Shelton; 3 Great Grandchildren: Kaitlynn, Chyenne, and Chloe; 1 Sister: Sylvia (Gene) Hurst of Chesterfield, SC; and 1 Brother: Garland Smith of Bishopville, SC.

PAGELAND – Della Jane Rivers, 73, died on Friday, April 8, 2016. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11am from the Oro United Methodist Church, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She was born July 24, 1942 to the late Cephus and Daisy Lee Miller in Jefferson, SC. Survivors: four daughters, Della Vanessa Edgeworth (Eddie), Marilyn Maxine Rivers, both of Pageland, SC, Becky Loretta Patterson, Spartanburg, SC and Cherrie Denise Rivers (Tyrone), Charlotte, NC; a son, Eddie Thomas Rivers, of the home; four sisters, Patricia Caudle, Gloria Reid, both of Jefferson, SC, Jacquelyn Miller and Kayretha Caudle, both of Washington, DC; two half-sisters, Delores Miller, Washington, DC and Rainelle Miller, Silver Springs, MD; fourteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren. Flemming Funerals-Pageland rendered services. .

Landy Sweatt

SEAGROVE – Landy Sweatt, age 79, of Seagrove passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Randolph Hospice House.

Mr. Sweatt was born in Bennettsville, SC on May 5, 1946 to Robert Lee and Mae Leviner Sweatt. Landy served his country in the US Army for 9 years and was an avid contributor to the Wounded Warriors Project. He retired from Asheboro Elastics after 18 years of service. In addition to his parents, Landy was preceded in death by his sisters, Callie Lee Hatcher, Norma Shaw, and Bonnie Sweatt and brothers, Earl, Lewis, Lindo, and Charlie Sweatt. He enjoyed walking, cutting wood, and working on his old cars. Landy was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Sweatt, son, Larry Sweatt; daughter, Vickie Auman and husband Scott; grandchildren, Stephen Sweatt, Abby Auman and fiancée Todd Hunsucker and their son Zack, Matthew Auman and wife Ashley and their children, Brantley, Henley, and Beasley, Lauren Poole and husband Michael and their daughter, Paisley; sisters, Edith Wilkes and husband Scott, Ruby Gainey and husband Larry, Faye Sartor and husband John, Mae Shaw, Pat Cole and husband Jackie; and many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at the home of Vickie and Scott Auman. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Society Hill Church of God, 378 Pressley Ave., Society Hill, SC with Rev. Larry Gainey officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of the Randolph Hospice House for their loving care, prayers and condolences. We would also like to thank the many family and friends who came to offer prayers, food, and condolences.

Robert ‘Bob’ Emory Redfearn

WEST COLUMBIA – Robert “Bob” Emory Redfearn, 94, of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016, at his residence. He was born on March 31, 1922, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, to the late Robert Townley and Lessie Pusser Redfearn.

Bob was strong in his Christian faith and was a long time member of Shandon United Methodist Church. He served his country during WWII as a Quartermaster 1st Class in the United States Navy. Bob completed his degree as a veteran student in accounting from the University of South Carolina and worked with the Internal Revenue Service for over 30 years. Bob was a member of the Edisto Beach Lion’s Club and former Chairman of the Colleton County Planning Commission. After his retirement, he and Mary moved to Edisto Beach where they operated the Atwood Real Estate Agency, then opened and operated the local IGA Grocery Store.

Bob is survived by his sons, Robert D. Redfearn (Brenda), Thomas “Andy” Douglass (Rowena) and W. Kirk Douglass (Trudy). He also leaves behind his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a brother, Richard Townley Redfearn (Nancy) to cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Refo Douglass Redfearn; and a sister, Frances Williams Redfearn.

Friends and family held a private silent memorial at the graveside at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia SC 29209. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is assisting the family.

Ruby Quick Allen

BENNETTSVILLE - Ruby Quick Allen, 67, died Friday, June 10, 2016. Born in Bennettsville, SC she was a daughter of Elease Steen Quick and the late William Shuford Quick, Jr. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and also served as an Assistant Sunday School Teacher.

Surviving are her mother listed above, a son, John Paul (Sarah) Allen of Fort Mill, SC, brothers, Alexander (Minnie) Chavis of Cheraw, SC, and William Shuford (Elaine) Quick III of Wallace, SC, a sister, Donna Lee (Ron) Chavis of Rockingham, NC, and four grandchildren, Morgan Carlisle Allen, William Spencer Allen, Grace Katherine Allen and Laurin Elizabeth Allen.

The family received friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Bennettsville, SC.

A funeral service was held at 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Bennettsville, SC.

Burial was in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bennettsville, SC.

Mr. Eugene Washington, Jr.
Apr 18, 1945 - Oct 8, 2014

Mr. Eugene Washington, Jr. was the only child born to the late Mr. Eugene Washington, Sr. on April 18, 1945 in Columbia, South Carolina. On Wednesday, October 8, 2014, Eugene departed this life.

Eugene was educated in the Richland County Public School System. After graduating high school, Eugene decided to join the United States Navy. There he served his country under the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment for 18 faithful years. After his military service, Eugene became an employee of Pepsi.

Eugene was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Washington, Sr.

Eugene leaves to cherish his memories his former wife, Sandra Singleton; mother-in-law, Eloise Oree; five sisters-in-law, Audrie Banks, Annett Oree, Debra (Robert) McNeal, Emma Branch, and Angela Oree, all of Columbia, SC; one brother-in-law, Wilbert Oree, of Atlanta, GA; a special niece Tina Oree, of the home; and a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, other loving relatives, and caring friends all of whom will miss him dearly.

Cynthia Faye ‘Cindy’ Pigg Collins

PAGELAND - Cynthia Faye “Cindy” Pigg Collins, 62, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016.

Born in Monroe, N.C., she was a daughter of Billy and Bobbie Pigg of Pageland. Cindy was a graduate of Cheraw High School and worked at Carolina Canadian Lumber Company in Spartanburg as a bookkeeper. She was retired.

Cindy was a former member of Providence Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and daughter and devoted wife who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking, gardening and fishing. She enjoyed attending NASCAR races, cheering the Carolina Panthers and spending time at the beach with her husband. She was an animal lover all her life, and her mom tells many stories of Cindy bringing home stray animals.

She is survived by her parents, listed above; her husband of 28 years, David Collins of the home; a daughter, Melissa Dawn Shrum of Conway; a son, Jon David Shrum and his wife, Dana, of Boiling Springs, SC; step-daughter, Gina Wooldrik and her husband Joshua of Bull Head City, Az.; granddaughters Elisa Petty of Spartanburg and Stevie Rose Shrum of Boiling Springs; step-grandsons Klayton and Parker Wooldrik and step granddaughter Addie Wooldrik of Bull Head City, Az.; a brother, Farris Pigg, and his wife Jane, of Cheraw; and her fur baby, Scooby Do.

A memorial service was held at Providence Baptist Church on Saturday, June 10, 2016, at 4:00 p.m.

Paul David Davis

SOCIETY HILL - Paul David Davis, 86, of Society Hill passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 4 PM in Society Hill Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Swift Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington. The family received friends from 5:30 until 7:00 PM on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Mr. Davis was born in Darlington, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Harley and Katie Hutchinson Davis. Mr. Davis served his country in the United States Army and retired from Highland Industries. He was a member of Society Hill Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, elder and Sunday School Superintendent. Mr. Davis enjoyed hunting, fishing, old cars and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his daughter, Teresa (Robert) Hancock of Society Hill; his granddaughters, Regina Hancock (Josh Evans) and Amber Hancock (Kyle) Ange; his brothers, Jody (Sybil) Davis, Winfred (Shelvie Jean) Davis; his sisters, Rachel Davis Weatherford, and Sylva Ree Stokes; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann M. Davis; his siblings, Lois Harrell, Jimmy Davis, Olin Davis, Vera and Earline and by his twin brother, Silas Davis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Society Hill Presbyterian Church, 308 Pressley Ave, Society Hill, SC 29593.
