Robert William ‘Bill’ Knight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mr. Robert William “Bill” Knight, 68, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at his home.

Bill was born September 15, 1949, in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late William Beaslie and Willie Kirkley Knight. Bill was an accountant in the Charlotte area for over 40 years. He also worked for First Union National Bank, as well as, Holbrook Water Cruising. In his free time, he loved to hike and attend Wake Forest games, and travel. He was a lifelong member of Charlotte First Baptist Church.

Those left to celebrate and remember his life include his loving aunt, Peggy Demby of Pageland, South Carolina, and also many cousins, friends, and tax clients.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Pearl Heath Craig Mabry

CHERAW - Pearl Heath Craig Mabry, 91, died Thursday, February 8, 2018. Born in Crockett, MS she was a daughter of the late John Hulet and Annie Braddy Craig and the widow of Boyce Edward Mabry. She was a member of Cheraw First Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, watching all sports; especially those played by her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Pearl loved all people with whom she came in contact.

Surviving is her son Boyce (Mary Helen) Edward Mabry Jr. of Rock Hill, SC, daughters, Beverly (Bill) Mabry Hewett of Ocean Isle, NC, Melanie (Jason) Mabry Brock of Cheraw, SC, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a sister, Lillie Jean Craig Renick of Ashland, MS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also, sons, Harry Eugene Mabry and Gary Wayne Mabry.

The family received friends 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm, Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A graveside service was held 4:00 pm, Saturday, February 10, 2018 in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Helen V. McLain

PATRICK - Mrs. Helen V. McLain, age 87, entered into rest on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Thursday, February 8, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Tommy Bailey, Phillip Caulder, Jr., and Brent Taylor with burial following in the St. John Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Mrs. McLain was born September 24, 1930 in Darlington County, SC a daughter of the late Walter Jerome and Nora Bell Gainey. She was a devoted homemaker and faithful member of St. John Freewill Baptist Church for over 70 years. Helen was a former Sunday school teacher and was proud to have been instrumental in designing the memorial flower garden at the church. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, working in her flowers continuously, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold P. McLain; son, William Harold “Billy” McLain; sisters, Edith T. Shoemake, Jenny Mae Poston, and Doris T. Garris.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Wayne McLain of Patrick, SC; 1 daughter, Virginia McLain Smith of Cheraw, SC; 4 grandchildren, Matthew William (Jennifer) McLain of Lexington, SC, Erin Suzanne McLain (Rodney) Byrd of Cheraw, SC, Kandyce Gibson Cail of Patrick, SC, and Megan Diane Pressley of Cheraw, SC; 7 great grandchildren, Joshua Lee Cail, Jr., Ashtin Patrick Cail, Charlee McLain “Lainey” Light, Logan William Byrd, Jackson Adeimy Byrd, Mattison “Mattie” Taylor McLain, and Reed McLain; sisters, Margaret T. Teal of Cheraw, SC, Faye T. (Bradley) Eddins of Chesterfield, SC, Louise T. Hill of Patrick, SC, Carolyn T. (Donald) Sellers of Ruby, SC; and brother-in-law, Ray Garris; also a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Agape Hospice, 113 N. 5th St. Hartsville, SC 29550.

Allen J. Miller

PAGELAND - Bishop Allen J. Miller, 70, died on Sunday, February 4, 2018. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2PM from the Pageland Community Center, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the Faith Assembly of Christ Cemetery Church, Pageland, SC. He was born January 9, 1948 in Chesterfield, SC to the late Aster and Eldred Miller. Survivors: his wife, Nancy B. Miller; three sons, Allen Jeffrey Miller, Jr. (Penny Gurganious), Donald Miller, (Shelita) both of Pageland, SC and Michael Miller (Michelle), Indian Trail, NC; a brother, Anthony Miller, Pageland, SC; three sisters, Mildred Blakeney, Pageland, SC, Minerva Jackson, Charlotte, NC and Mary Clark (James), Roxboro, NC; 8 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Pageland. .

Gale Oliver Steen

RUBY - Mrs. Gale Oliver Steen, age 73, entered into rest on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at her home. Funeral Services were held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Clanton Plains Baptist Church by Dr. Steve West with burial following in the church cemetery. The family receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, February 12, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Steen was born April 30, 1944 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Neelie Oliver. She was a graduate of Ruby High School and a faithful member of Clanton Plains Baptist Church where she served as former treasurer, choir member, and was active in the WMU. Mrs. Steen was a former employee of Square Deal Drug Store and a retired employee of INA Bearing. Gale loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved cat, “Miss Tibbs”.

In addition to her mother, Gale was also preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Ray Steen.

Survivors include her daughter, Christie (Richard Mohr) Steen of Ruby, SC; step-son, James Ray Steen of Ruby, SC; step-daughter, Donna Steen of Dundalk, MD; 2 grandchildren, Jordan Gaskins and Makayla Gaskins both of Ruby, SC; and sister, Elsie Jordan of Atglen, PA.

Mildred Jean Starling Bacot

CHERAW - Mildred Jean Starling Bacot, 86, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Born in Wadesboro, NC, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Chester and Sarah Aline Alexander Starling. She was the widow of Harold B. Bacot and a member of Westside Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, reading, yard work, and shopping. Mrs. Bacot cherished being with her family.

Surviving are her daughters, Debbie (Wicky) Boan, Ann (Randy) Pierce all of Cheraw, SC, a sister, June Starling Meland of Wadesboro, NC, a sister-in-law, Frances Starling of Wadesboro, NC, grandchildren, Kori Boan, Butch Boan, Josh Boan, Adam Pierce, Drew Pierce, great grandchildren, Gage Boan, Hunter Boan, Cameron Boan, Colton Boan, Carson Boan, Callie Boan, Daisy Boan, Carissa Boan, Randi Pierce, and a great-great-grandchildren, Wish Boan.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also a brother, Larry Chester Starling.

The family received friends 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Friday, February 2, 2018 at Westside Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.

A memorial service was held 3:00 PM, Friday, February 2, 2018 at Westside Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.

Dahrl Cooke Bittle

CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Dahrl Cooke Bittle, age 67, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 4:00 Friday, February 2, 2018 at Southern Grace Church by Pastor Bobby Morton and Rev. Bobby Norris with burial following in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bittle was born July 25, 1950 in Pinehurst, NC a daughter of the late Colon and Virgia Dunn Cooke. She was a former employee of Walmart, Chesterfield Manufacturing, Sav-Way of Cheraw, and Whispering Pines Sportswear of Pageland. She was a faithful member of Southern Grace Church and enjoyed fishing, watching racing, and spending time with her family. Dahrl was a member of the CB Radio Club where she was lovingly known as “Yellow Duck.”

In addition to her parents, Dahrl was also preceded in death by a son, John Bittle.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Alvin Bittle of the home; son, Clifton Leonard Johnson, Jr. of Lamar, SC; daughter, Darlene (Rev. Clifton) Baskins of Chesterfield, SC; step-son, Ray Bittle of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Ashley (C.J.) Presnell, Trinity Baskins, Tripp Johnson, Jaxson Johnson, Austin Blackmon, Courtney Hill, and Mya Gaskins; great grandchildren, Hailey, Carla, and Hunter; step grandchildren, Gabrielle and Brittany; brother, Ricky (Linda) Cooke of Lilesville, NC; sister, Debbie (Dennis) Whitley of Albemarle, NC; numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, “Baby-Girl.”

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Medford Nursing Home, the staff of Pruitt Health Hospice, and the staff of McLeod Hospital for the love and care shown to Mrs. Bittle.

Danny Wayne Gaddy

PAGELAND - Mr. Danny Wayne Gaddy, 71, of Pageland, South Carolina passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 surrounded by his loving family and while under the care of Hospice.

Danny was born on October 9, 1946 in Pageland, South Carolina to the late Clarence and Laura Jackson. Danny grew up in the Pageland Community and later graduated from Wake Forest University where he became a teacher and taught for over 20 years. He loved math and geometry and was working on a theory of PI. He was also a member of the Mensa Society. In his spare time, Danny enjoyed writing songs, as well as, writing poetry. In addition to his parents, Danny is preceded in death by two sisters, Sylvia Jackson and Leona Rivers.

Those left to celebrate and remember his life include his life partner, Ramona Boykin of Pageland, South Carolina; brothers, Donald Gaddy of Pageland, South Carolina and James Gaddy of Wingate, North Carolina; Special Nephew, Tim Gaddy of Marshville, North Carolina; Friend since college, Doug Reinhardt of Statesville, North Carolina; also numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Gathering was held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Baumgartner Funeral Home. Burial followed at Center Grove Baptist Church in Mt. Croghan, South Carolina.
The family received friends prior to the service on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Baumgartner Funeral Home, 708 West McGregor Street, Pageland, South Carolina 29728.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Center Grove Baptist Church, c/o James A. Bailey, 23522 Highway 9, Mt. Croghan, South Carolina 29727.

David F. Gordon

MT. CROGHAN - Mr. David F. Gordon, age 82, entered into rest on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his home. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor David Roscoe and Rev. Don Rhyne with burial following in the Mt. Croghan Memorial Park. The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Gordon was born April 13, 1935 in Ruby, SC a son of the late William Fate “W.F.” and Emma Taylor Gordon. He was a graduate of Monroe High School and a retired supervisor with the City of Monroe with 33 years of service. Mr. Gordon was a member of the NC Army National Guard and enjoyed hunting and working with his tractor. He served as Mayor of Mt. Croghan for 5 consecutive terms. A member of Mt. Croghan Baptist Church, David served as a former deacon and Sunday school teacher and was also a member of the Mt. Croghan Memorial Park Committee.

In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by his son, David Franklin Gordon, Jr.; and 2 sisters, Frauline Gordon Deese and Rosa Lee Brooks.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Lillie Mae Gordon of the home; brother of the heart, Billy (Kathy) Whitley of Peachland, NC; and grandchildren of the heart, Carson and Christine Rhyne.

CHERAW - Mrs. Margaret Burns Kimrey, age 85, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Graveside services were held at 11:30 AM Friday, February 2, 2018 at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens by Rev. Jeff Gardner. The family received friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Friday, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kimrey was born July 25, 1932 in Wadesboro, NC a daughter of the late Crump and Jennie Jones Burns. She was a loving homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Cheraw. Margaret enjoyed playing bingo and going to yard sales.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Brack M. Kimrey, Jr.

Survivors include her 2 sons, Mike Kimrey and wife Sharon, and their son, Drew Kimrey and wife, Ashley, Trey Kimrey and friend, Joni; daughters, Teresa K. English and husband, Robin and their son, Brackie English and wife, Tarin, and their children, Austin and Rosie English all of Cheraw, SC; sisters, Hannah Deaver of Surfside Beach, SC and her daughters, Shawne (John) Cassidy and their daughters, Hailey and Hanna, Stephanie (Ron) Lyles, and their daughters, Amelia and Grace; Peggy McKay of Raleigh, NC and her daughter, Sandy and her children, Cassie and Wyatt, and son, Dale Simpson.

Burial followed in the Church Cemetery. She was born March 27, 1927 in Chesterfield County, SC to the late William and Addie Choplin Miller. Survivors: her husband, Lurco Miller of the home; three daughters, Tonya Lelorine Huntley (Derick), Jefferson, SC, Patricia Teresa Caudle, Jefferson, SC and Emily Jacqueline Miller, Washington, DC; a son, Johnathan Tyjon Miller, Florence, SC; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Pageland. .

Cornell Leslie Mumford

CHERAW - Cornell Leslie Mumford, 53, died on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 1PM from the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery. He was born March 17, 1964 in Cheraw, SC to the late Cornell Mumford and Barbara White Mumford Crowell. Survivors: his wife, Lisa R. Mumford; four brothers, Alvin (Beverly) Mumford, Cheraw, SC, Terrance (Regina) Evans, Charlotte, NC, Frederic (Mia) Langford. Columbia, SC and Michael (Yumeako) Mumford, Pageland, SC; five sisters, Sharon Mumford, New Haven, CT, Gladys (James) Everson, Clarkson, GA, Linda Streater, Cheraw, SC, Monica Sanders, Atlanta, GA and Gail (Bobby) Nivens, Wadesboro, NC. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Cheraw. .

Christina Cagle

PAGELAND - Mrs. Christina Cagle, 52, of Pageland, South Carolina passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Christina was born on June 19, 1965 in Pageland, South Carolina to the late Columbus Cagle and Lillie Catledge Cagle. Christina loved the outdoors whether it was playing outside with her grandkids, fishing, or simply picking plums and scuppadines. She also enjoyed listening to music, as well as, arts and crafts especially drawing. Christina loved her family with all her heart and was very proud of them all. In addition to her parents, Christina is preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Anne Deason, and one brother, Timothy Lee Cagle.

Those left to celebrate and remember her life include her partner in crime, Jerry Jenkins of Mt. Croghan, South Carolina; loving sons, Lynn Blalock and Lamar Blalock both of Pageland, South Carolina; daughter, Sharon Gregory of Pageland, South Carolina; brother, Johnny Cagle Sr., of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; sisters, Sandra K. Cagle Estridge of Pageland, South Carolina, Bonnie Faye Cagle of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Susie Cagle Pate of Mt. Croghan, South Carolina; also five grandchildren, Noah Blalock, Lamar Parker Blalock, Austin Blalock, Taylee Clyburn and Jaron Grant all of Pageland, South Carolina.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from the Chapel of Baumgartner Funeral Home with Pastor Jay Berry and Pastor Dean Grant officiating. Burial followed at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30PM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Baumgartner Funeral Home, 708 West McGregor Street, Pageland, South Carolina 29728.
