Mason E. Childers Myrtle C. Childers

Mason Eugene Childers, 82, of 108 Hillcrest Drive, Lockhart, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at 5:47 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

His wife, Myrtle (Dolly) Cameron Childers, 71, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at the home of their daughter, Dianne Hubbard of 1079 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union. The family is at the home of their daughter, Dianne Hubbard, 1079 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Willie Glenn
Spartanburg native

Willie Eddie (June) Glenn of 3028 Tiger Court, entered into eternal rest, Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Wallace Thomson Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1943 in Spartanburg to Edna J. Glenn Thomas and the late Eddie Glenn. Mr. Glenn attended Union County public schools.

Surviving in addition to his mother of Columbia are a daughter, Jackie Roxiann of New York; a son, Willie Eddie (June Bug) (Freda) Glenn of Union; four grandsons, Dana, Dente, Jessie and Wendell Roxiann of New York; four sisters, Lillie (J.C.) Hardy and Amelia Glenn of Union, Emma Meadows of Spartanburg and Clemmie (Elijah) Ward of Jersey City, N.J., two brothers, Paul Jones of Jersey City and Aaron Glenn of Union; a stepsister, Agnes Brice of Wheaton, Md., a stepbrother, the Rev. Latta Thomas of Columbia; two aunts, Mary J. Brown of Hemingway and Elnora Mooreman of Kingstree; three uncles, Samuel Jones of Union, Willie Jones of Spartanburg and Ora Jones of Asheville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Galilee Baptist Church by the Rev. James Farr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister and brother, 114 Scott St., Union. Gibson & Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bessie C. Scott Head
Retired from Buffalo Mill

Bessie Crawford Scott Head, 94, of Union died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at 7:25 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. As long as her health permitted, Mrs. Head lived with her son, Fred at 127 Tanglewood Drive, Union. She was born in Jonesville on May 9, 1909, a daughter of the late John Neil Crawford and Hannah Elizabeth Davis Crawford.

She was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church and was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. She was first married to the late Willie K. Scott. She was later married to the late Perno Head.

Mrs. Scott was predeceased by a daughter and a son, Janie Scott and Clyde Scott. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Lillian Bernard and Carol S. and Jim Henderson, all of Richmond, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Barbara Scott, Fred and Carolyn Scott, all of Union and Kay Scott of Buffalo; a step-daughter, Nancy Roy of Augusta, Ga., 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Phillip Chandler, the Rev. Scott Cobb and the Rev. Carla Dillard. Burial will be in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Doug Leonhardt, Mike Scott, Billy Wayne Scott, Clyde Scott, Jr., Kin Headley and Ray DeBruhl. The family is at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Carolyn Scott, 127 Tanglewood Drive, Union and will receive friends at Buffalo United Methodist Church from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Buffalo United Methodist Church, 108 Hill St., Buffalo, S.C. 29321. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Bobby B. Holt
Paragon Plastics employee

Bobby Benny (Cow) Holt, 68, widower of Lois West Holt, of 134 Buffalo St., Buffalo, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, after a sudden illness. Mr. Holt was born in Union County on March 21, 1935, the son of Lovonia Davis Holt and the late James Hiram Holt. He was retired from Buffalo Mill as a doffer, and was presently employed at Paragon Plastics for the past 10 years. Known as the (Cow) he was a champion Golden Gloves boxer while serving in the United States Army.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Lovonia Holt of the home are a daughter, Freida Moss of Union; three sisters, Laverne Holt of the Home, Yvonne Gregory of Union and Paunese Mitchell of Buffalo; a brother, Billy Ray Holt of Buffalo; five grandchldren, Rhonda Cobb, Lawana Moss, both of Union, Dale West of Newbraska, Lori Epperson and Lynn Zyika, both of Florida; three great-grandchldren, Will Cobb of Union, Brittney Dunagin of Spartanburg and Ansligh Moss of Union and a very special friend and companion, Sonja Hicks of Union; and very special family members, Rita Fuggle of Buffalo, and her daughter, Melissa Fuggle of Union, Shanon Barnes of Union and here children Anna Barnes and Nathan Barnes, both of Union; Joe Hicks, Joey Hicks, Chris Hicks, Jackson Hicks, Kayce Hicks, and Amy Hicks, all of Union.

Mr. Holt was predeceased by a brother, Joe W. Holt and a granddaughter, Carol Ann Dunagin. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Scott Cobb, the Rev. Johnny Burgess and Dr. Tim Driggers. Interment was in Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery. The body remained at Lewis Funeral Home where the family received friends Monday night.

Active pallbearers were Dale Gregory, Mike Gregory, Will Cob, Roy Hicks, Joe Hicks, Jamie Mitchell, Richie Barnes and Chris Hicks. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Paragon Plastics, Kathy Parks, Jonas Hayes, William Moss, Joey Hicks and Robert Prince. Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 308 Linersville Road, P.O. Box 728, Buffalo, S.C. 29321. The family is at the home, 134 Buffalo St., Buffalo. The Lewis Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

William M. Johnson
Former Rosemont Plant employee

William Milton (Charlie Brown) Johnson, 45, husband of Audrey Parkins Johnson, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at 6:36 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Johnson was born in Union on April 16, 1958, a son of the late Marion Johnson. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Spartan Mills, Rosemont Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three aunts, Eva J. Carter, Frances Wood and Zora Vinson, all of Union; a niece, Brianna Jade Parkins of Union; his mother-in-law, Grace Humphries Parkins of Union and a brother-in-law, Dale Parkins of Union. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his father-in-law, Franklin D. Parkins.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. today at the Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Randy Smith. Active pallbearers were Gregg Davis, David Turner, Paul D. Williford, Mike Hardin, Calvin Byrd, Harold Bright, Paul Parkins and Donnie Warren. Forming the honorary escort were: Perry Crocker, Richard Farr, John and Gail Davis and Wayne Baldwin.

The family is at the home of Paul and Margaret Williford, 113 Osborne St, Union, and received friends at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel from 1:30 until 2:45 this afternoon. Memorials may be made to the William M. Johnson Fund, P.O. Box 293, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ralph G. Gregory
World War II veteran

Ralph Gordon Gregory, 75, of Barnyard Road, Macedonia, died Dec. 22, 2002, in a Charleston hospital. Mr. Gregory was born on April 8, 1927, a son of Grover Gregory and Thelma Stepp Gregory. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Gregory was a retired sheet metal worker for the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was formerly married to the late Mary Teresa Williams Gregory.

Surviving are his wife, Nell Thomas Gregory; four daughters, Carol Gregory Bischoff of Mt. Pleasant, Dinah L. Wrenn, Debbie Cockcroft and Jeanie Hill all of Moncks Corner; four sons, Bruce D. Gregory of Oceanside, Calif.; Paul Legnard of Bonneau, Bernard Legnard of Macedonia and Kenneth Legnard of Vandenberg AFB, Calif.; two sisters, Reba Bogan and Lois Williams both of Buffalo; two brothers, Grover Gregory of Pensacola, Fla.; and Howard Gregory of Graham, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gregory was predeceased by a brother, Fred O'Neal Gregory. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Riverview Memorial Park. Interment will follow. Dial-Murphy Funeral Home of Moncks Corner has charge of arrangements.

Floyd Marshall Pruitt
Retired construction worker

Floyd Marshall Pruitt, 62, of 504 Seigler Road, died Dec. 22, 2002, at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Pruitt was born in Union County on April 12, 1940, a son of the late William F. Pruitt and Lydia O'Shields Pruitt. He was a retired construction worker.

Surviving are two brothers, Paul Pruitt and Jimmy Pruitt both of Union; and three sisters, Ola Adams of Spartanburg, Boot McMillian and Ellan Bullington both of Union. The family is at their respective homes. There will be no services. Stribling Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Christopher A. Prince
Former Action Builders employee

JONESVILLE - Christopher Aaron Prince, 42, of 116 Webber St., Jonesville, husband of Sharon Jill Craig Prince, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at 1:26 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mr. Prince was born in Union on April 5, 1960, a son of Joanne Prince Jones of Union and the late James A. Abrams. He was a Baptist and was formerly employed with Action Builders of Spartan-burg.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Heather Garner of Jonesville; a son, Neil Bailey of Rock Hill; his stepfather, Ray Jones of Union; his stepmother, Irene Abrams of Buffalo; two sisters, Laurie Abrams of Jonesville and Kristi Lawter of Union; four stepsisters, Deannie Byars of Newberry, Sybil Smith, Vickie Gregory and Nicki Guy, all of Union; a stepbrother, Terry Jones of Union and two grandchildren.

The family is at the home, 116 Webber St., Jonesville, and at the home of his mother, Joanne Jones, 528 Peach Orchard Road, Union. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Josie G. Seay
Florist

WOODRUFF - Josie Goodwin Seay, 85, of 232 Edgewood Circle, Woodruff, died Dec. 26, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Seay was born in Spartanburg County, the only child of the late Robert and Evie Vise Goodwin. She was a florist, Sunday School teacher, and a 56-year member of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband of 66 years, I.F. Seay; seven children, Robert and Carole Seay of Taylors, Betty Babanoury of Niagra Falls, N.Y.; Janet and Luck Shepherd of Brevard, N.C.; John Seay of Birmingham, Ala.; Rosa Poole of Union, David and Mary Seay of Woodruff, and Karen and Jim Pharr of Lenoir, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Forest Hills Funeral Home Chapel by Jim Pharr. Burial will be at Bethlehem Baptist Church at Roebuck. The family is at the home, 232 Edgewood Circle, Woodruff, S.C. 29388.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Hospice, 414 Pettigru Street, Greenville, S.C. 29601. Forest Hills Funeral Home of Woodruff has charge of arrangements.

Herman H. Smith
Korean War veteran

PAULINE - Herman Hicks Smith, 71, husband of Frances Davis Smith of 6100 Highway 56, Pauline, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at 5:05 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born in Union County on April 16, 1931, a son of the late Englesby Thomas Smith and Laura Lawson Smith.

He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a Mason, a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Army, and was formerly employed with Eagle Construction Co.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Richard Harris of Pauline; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Cheryl Smith of Roebuck and Ralph and Donna Smith of Enoree; two sisters, Anna Rollo of Enoree and Aniece Vaughn of Martinex, Ga.; five grandchildren, Curt Smith, Kevin Smith, Josh Smith, Ryan Smith and Dustin Harris.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Southside Baptist Church in Pauline conducted by the Rev. Shannon Faulkner. Burial with military honors will be in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home and will be placed in church at 2 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Debbie and Richard Harris, 6098 Highway 56, Pauline. The family will receive friends at Friendship Baptist Church on Sunday immediately following the graveside service. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
